I’m not usually one to blow my own trumpet, but I do think it’s important to celebrate our small wins. So here are 3 small wins I am proud of achieving last week. Each one helping me to settle further into life in the Netherlands.

🎉A new role as Adjunct Faculty in a Business School in the heart of Amsterdam. I love teaching business students & the classroom view overlooking the iconic Rijksmuseum is super inspiring.

🎉Getting my Dutch Driving License. Even though I’ve driven for over 10 years, I needed to transfer my International License to a Dutch one which meant I needed to take the theory and practical test all over again. Luckily I passed the practical on the first go but the theory was horrendous and it took me a few attempts even though I studied for HOURS. I was almost about to drive a bromauto (IFKYK) but I PAAAAAASED!

🎉I started working with a Wellness Company that makes scientifically-proven products that are clean, delicious and affordable. I did my first training completely in Dutch and met some lovely people to boot!

What do you want more of in your life?

A ‘theme’ for the year is a guiding principle, or focus area, that can help shape your goals, actions, and mindset throughout the year.

Start with the first word that pops to mind that feels like it has the most overarching direction you want to go in. Your north star!

Potential themes:

🌟 Simplicity
🌟 Connection
🌟 Financial Abundance
🌟 Mindfulness
🌟 Exploration

Some of the themes that you guys kindly shared with me are; & 🙌

Choosing a theme for the year is not just a resolution; it’s a roadmap for personal growth and fulfillment.

Let me know what you think & what word or theme you choose for 2024.

As a self-diagnosed chatter-box, I decided to challenge myself to a silent retreat last weekend. 8 people together in a controlled, safe environment; it was easier than I thought, and lots of self-reflection, recalibration and ‘aha’ moments ensued. What did I learn?

1️⃣We so often look to external sources for the answers, when really if we just quiet our mind and listen to our own perspective, the answer can be so glaringly obvious. Trusting your instincts helps to understand your core values and build confidence and self-awareness.

2️⃣We more often engage in cosmetic listening when another person is talking. We are half-listening, preparing what we will say next instead of actually listening to what they are saying. By practicing active listening, we stay quiet and really listen to what the other person is communicating - verbally but also through non-verbal cues; body language and tone of voice. It can help us to craft a more intentional way of responding, instead of off-the-cuff and potentially hurtful.

3️⃣There are many stimuli surrounding us at any given moment. Being quiet allows us to tap into our other senses; what you see, hear, taste, smell, or touch. By actively noticing the world around you, using all your senses, we become more aware of (and can respond to) our environment.

4️⃣Doom scrolling and phone addiction are real epidemics of our society. So much time is lost. Picking up a book, writing in a journal or simply just sitting still and observing, leaves room for daydreaming, stream of consciousness and stillness. Turning off your devices can also inadvertently turn off the sympathetic nervous system’s “fight or flight” switch.

5️⃣Being present without needless chatter is a beautiful thing. We often fill in ‘awkward’ silences with filler words, sighs, rambles and unnecessary chatter. There is no harm in pausing, being quiet and present and enjoying the task at hand without words.

Are you, like me, a bit jaded about hearing all of the success stories, and ‘rise to the top in 60 days’ with no failures tales? Don’t get me wrong, I love to hear about achievements and accomplishments, but it hits different when things don’t go in the direction we want to, the importance of pivoting and facing setbacks to move forward.

Yesterday, I was stopped in my tracks when I heard
inspiring story from elite athlete to media personality. She challenged my perspectives on , the importance of and connecting with your personal to give you in the face of uncertainty and unforeseen changes.

Pawlik Consultants International will be putting on another powerful session with the wonderful Margriet on September 20th in Amsterdam. I was recently rolling out a Diversity Equity & Inclusion Program for a client and while researching came across these critical traits of inclusive leadership.

Inclusive leadership is a crucial skill to harness diverse thinking in the workforce.

Belonging and psychological safety are fundamental human needs. Inclusive leadership helps address these two critical needs and enhances performance, collaboration, attendance, and reduces turnover.

Here are the 6 signature traits of an inclusive leader from Dr Juliet Bourke GAICD Andrea Titus. Recommend their article 'The Key to Inclusive Leadership' for Harvard Business Review for further reading.

Have you met any inclusive leaders during your career? Feel free to tag them here! We can learn from them!

Happy International Women's Day to the amazing women I have worked with over the years and to the outstanding women I am lucky enough to call family and friends.

The topic of this year's International Women’s Day is Embrace Equity. Equity means that all employees are provided with fair and equal opportunities based on their individual needs.

To survive, organizations need talent that matches the complexity of the world it operates in. To thrive, an organization built on diverse, equity and inclusive building blocks are essential to unlock the power and potential of all that talent.

Here are 4 ways you can help to at work.

I love a good podcast - A) because it’s bite-sized & you can learn something new in 10 minutes B) it can make boring tasks such as long car journeys, getting ready & household chores more fun. I listen to podcasts everywhere!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I wanted to give a nod to some of my favorite podcasts right now. Have you listened to any of these and will you be adding any to your list?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🌟🌟 NOVEMBER INTENTION/ GOAL SETTING 🌟🌟⠀

*Chart rates where I'm at with each goal today!

It's hard to believe that we are into the last couple of months of 2022. It can be overwhelming if it feels like the year is disappearing out of our control. We DO have control though, and setting goals and intentions is a great way to keep you on track.

Here are mine:

1. Meditating each day. I never thought I would say this, but I have been meditating for 31 days straight. I’ve never done this before and I definitely attribute learning the technique of to that. I’ll aim to keep this going in November as I feel more calm, positive and grateful since I’ve been meditating every day. is your man for this!

2. Nourishing my body each day. Since we left Dubai 4 months ago, I’ve been on holiday mode and my body is feeling it. I need to reframe my brain to put into my body again, as I’ve been eating way to much pork, chocolate and crap in general. I’ll be adding celtic sea salt first thing in the morning (thanks ), maca powder/flax/chia seeds to my smoothies, lots of vegetable soups and hearty foods to my diet this month to feel the energy again.

3. Study Dutch grammar. It goes without saying that when you move to a new country that you are forced out of your comfort zone. Speaking Dutch well is non-negotiable now so time to focus on not just my conversational Dutch, but the grammar behind the scenes to make me sound like I know what I’m talking about 🥴
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Make a decision about my self-development for 2023. I want to study # psychology , so time to put in the time to figure out where that could be and the starting date. I love learning but realize the time will never be right, I just need to start!

What are your goals for November?
Get a pen and paper out and set some for this month. Tag me in your plans to keep each other accountable!

After 4 months of planning, I'm thrilled to be ready to deliver a Top Talent Self-Development Program next week for a Swiss organization in Milan.

It goes without saying that when running a training or teaching session, the in-person/hybrid/hyflex experience is what determines a successful outcome or ROI.

However, people don’t realize the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. Yes, I have many off-the-shelf courses that I can deliver tomorrow BUT those that are fine-tuned and bespoke to the client are always much more transformative.

That is why I urge my clients to have several planning calls before delivery to ensure they communicate their current business challenges, skills gaps, and strategic goals to me. I need to know the pain points of the people in the room before I set foot in it. It is the balance between superb planning & quality input from the HR/ L&D Team together with slick delivery from the trainer/teacher that brings magic to the classroom!

I can't wait to co-teach this together and bring it to fruition.

I’ve wanted to try Transcendental Meditation for around 7 years, and funnily enough, the person who told me about it is now teaching it. When he sent me his course I knew, now is the time!

I’ve always done guided meditations in the past but what I was missing; a consistent practice that I am committed to everyday. What I really like most about Transcendental Meditation is the mantra you use, which helps to avoid the million different things going through your head, keeping you focused.

If you want to know more, please ask, and there are some beautiful videos on YouTube of the iconic David Lynch, who articulates the benefits of it much better than I ever could.

Do you practice Transcendental Meditation? Would love to hear how your journey is, I’m only 4 days in and loving it.

There is working remotely...and then there is well really working remotely. It was my first time having a client meeting from a tent, albeit one of the nicer tents I've been in. Happy to report that the connection didn't let me down and it was a fun way to break the ice.

Where is the most random place you've had a meeting since remote work became the new norm?

According to research, business professionals will experience burnout by the age of 32. Prevention is better than cure, so what can you do to minimize burnout before it is too late?

1️⃣ Work within your limits. Single tasks, saying no & prioritizing. Set boundaries for yourself and others will follow.

2️⃣ Unplug during non-work hours so you can recharge your batteries and connect with people in real time.

3️⃣ Use your breath as your partner to help you relax and find balance. In for 4, out for 6. You can do this at your desk, in the car or in the lift on your way to an important meeting.

Which one will you prioritize to miminize burnout?

Culture shock describes the impact of moving or relocating to an unfamiliar culture to what you are used to.

All new expats have one thing in common: they’ll experience culture shock and adjustment at some point in their relocation process. I've experienced this quite a few times as I've lived and worked abroad in 11 countries.

Here are the 4 phases of culture shock you can expect to go through. Have you any interesting stories of when you experienced culture shock?

Happy International Women's Day to all of you amazing women who wake up each morning and hustle to make your voice heard and your actions speak even louder. Who support and inspire me and many others every day.

The topic of this year's International Women’s Day is Break the Bias.

Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough. We all need to take action to — on International Women’s Day and beyond.

Self-care is not just retreats, massages & stuff that costs money (although I am a big fan of these).

It also comes in ways that don't cost anything, such as:

- read a chapter of your fave book
- journal - either in a notebook or on your laptop
- cook yourself a nourishing meal/snack
- change your passwords to be your mantra/affirmation
- chill out with music
- call a friend
- take a bath
- a walk in nature
- a cup of tea

It doesn't matter what it is - just do something that works for you.

What is your go-to method of self-care?

📚📚 Happy World Book Day 📚📚

I am always reading 3 books at any given time - 1 physical book, 1 on Audible & 1 on my Kindle.

That doesn’t include coffee table books, parenting books, kids books (I’m obsessed with reading to my toddler. Who else loves picking and choosing kids books to buy?).

I have such fond memories of reading as a kid - curled up in bed or on the sofa reading Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton and anything I could get my hands on really.

Who remembers the mobile library? Do they still exist? I remember being more excited for the mobile library to roll by than the ice-cream van 😁

I just love reading - pick up a book today. Even if it’s just 1 page in a sitting. Whatever you have time for. Sometimes the image of me reading is enough to chill me out.

Tell me your favourite memory of reading either as a kid or now?

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day - so what can we do to pay it forward & celebrate kindness.

Here are some ideas:

- Writing a thank you email to a helpful colleague
- Volunteer at your child's school
- Babysit for a family member for a couple hours
- Send a postcard to a child in your life
- Motivate a friend who needs a little push
- Help a neighbour with a bit of DIY
- Pick up some rubbish even though its 'not yours'

I don't do this often enough but I notice when I do it's the gift that keeps on giving and brings a smile.

What other ones would you add to the list?
