REEKMIND “Slithering Spell” NEW SINGLE PREMIERE NOW / from Mystification Zine:

“Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of “Slithering Spell” the second preview song taken from ‘Mired in the Reek of Grief‘ the debut full-length album from Australian death/doom metal band . Roaring with the psychoactive fissures of earthen death/doom but releasing its fumes with a rasping sludge metal step the first impression of their sound lands us somewhere between the distempered crawl of earlier Thou and the slower, more severe lunges of Mortiferum. A patient and punishing experience which has more than bludgeoning riffs in mind. The band comment on the meaning behind today’s featured song: ”Slithering Spell” is about a serpent that weaves its way through the corridors of one’s mind, excreting venom which seeps into the psyche causing doubt, anxiety and mental pain to increase over time – a spell which only worsens with time. Second guessing how much mental anguish can affect someone physically and the naivety by those lucky enough to not be affected that it’s ‘all in their head’ – this is in some way a representation of how it can feel. Something like this that places so much disadvantage on those who suffer invisible anguish – this is a version of what this trauma can feel like.”

REEKMIND DEBUT ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT

[NTR014] Night Terrors Records is proud to announce the release of “Mired in the Reek of Grief”, the debut album by Australian death-doom metallers , set to unleash its haunting presence on MC and LP format on March 7th, 2025. The first single “Cavernous Creeper” is now streaming on all platforms. Link in bio.

The vinyl edition is limited to 200 copies on 180g Mephitic Fog (Transparent Red & Black). Cassette limited to 100 copies on Solid Black shell. A long sleeve shirt by is also available to preorder now.

With their peculiar blend of crushing riffs and emotionally charged atmospheres, REEKMIND takes listeners on a harrowing journey through the depths of human despair. As the band describes, “The Reekmind is a manifestation of insurmountable grief that is represented in a physical form which slowly overtakes one’s mind and causes all affected to spiral into an inescapable well of misery and mental agony.” This ethos is deeply embedded in their music, delivering an experience that is both devastatingly heavy and cathartically profound.

REEKMIND’s debut album bridges the gap between classic death-doom foundations and atmospheric, almost transcendental elements that flirt with the introspective tones of post-metal and the visceral weight of sludge. The result is a soundscape that is both raw and expansive, embodying the essence of pure sonic catharsis.

The album’s organic production enhances its live-like authenticity, enveloping listeners in a sound that feels immediate, honest, and deeply personal. REEKMIND eschews flashy gimmicks, focusing instead on the power of the riff and constructing cohesive, expansive structures that resonate long after the final note fades.
