NIGERIAN BORN PROFESSOR OF PURE MATHEMATICS.

Meet - Prof Oghenetega Ighedo, Nigerian born Professor of Pure Mathematics, she is the first black woman to obtain a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of South Africa (UNISA), in its 149-year-long existence.

She also holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Pure Mathematics from the University of Ibadan and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Industrial Mathematics from Delta State University, Nigeria.

Prof Oghenetega Ighedo is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of South Africa (UNISA).

"I was inspired by my mother - a retired maths teacher. I saw the way she was going about teaching it and when I grew older, I thought the way she did maths was interesting and I wanted to see if I could do it like her."

“My decision to study pure mathematics was also motivated by the fact that not only are there few black pure mathematicians but there are fewer black women who are pure mathematicians."

“I encourage young women not to let adversity and challenges deter them. When I started my PhD I was already married, I had two children and was expecting my 3rd child. In spite of being a mother and a wife, I was able to complete my PhD within three years," said Prof Oghenetega Ighedo.

This is what we called 'POLICE IS MY FRIEND'

EXCELLENT POLICE IN CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
...OUR POLICE IN LAGOS ARE SPECIAL

I was driving on thrid mainland bridge and had a flat tyre just before the Yaba turning. As I pulled off the road to change the tyre, a police man approached me asking what the problem was. Before long he had called his colleagues and they were helping me change my car tyre.

I must confess, I was a bit uncomfortable seeing the officer getting down to change the tyre while I assisted.

After changing the tyre, they gave me a pack of sachet water to wash my hands, then I was wanting for their next move...

To my surprise they simply wished me well as I continued my journey, absolutely no request or demand for anything.

So I want to say a very big thank you to officers Zakari, Adeyemi and Augustine Ameh for really demonstrating that the police can really be your friend.

Just about the same time another driver pulled over who had missed his was, they were equally as helpful with such gracious attitude.

Sometimes we look for the spirit of the New Nigeria in the wrong places, but that Saturday I was excited to see that the spirit of the New Nigeria is already at work all around us, modelled by simple everyday people.

With all the negative things that come out of the Nigerian Police Force, it was so amazing seeing these men of the Nigerian Police demonstrate such selflessness at no cost.

To officers Zakari, Adeyemi and Augustine Ameh, I salute and honour you for your conduct.

I pray you will see and enjoy the reward of the good investment you are making in this country.

I hope this can somehow get to the force authorities.

God bless you!

"36 Year Old Lady Collapses as Ikeja High Court Sentences Her to Death 😭

A 36-year-old woman, Stella Gilbert, has been sentenced to death by Ikeja high court for stabbing her neighbour to death, Mrs. Stella Godwin, during a fight at their residence in Ajegunle, Lagos.

She collapsed on hearing the judge read her sentence, amidst tears from her friends, siblings and well-wishers... the law enforcement agents took her, infact, they carried her as she collapsed in the Court room back to the prison waiting for her ex*****on time.

I am very sure, this woman acted on anger, she is terribly regretting her actions by now... but, who will give her a second chance to live? All dreams, vision and aspirations shattered just because of anger that could have been controlled"...

STAY OUT OF TROUBLE TO AVOID 'HAD I KNOW'... .... .... ...

The victim was abducted from his family house in Vinkilang community in the outskirt of Yola, the Adamawa state capital, alongside six others on Monday night, August 1, 2022.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT, ABASIAMA SAMUEL ASUQUO GRADUATES AFTER BECOMING INTEGRAL PART OF KEELE COMMUNITY.

An international student has spoken of her pride at graduating from Keele University, after seizing her opportunities at Keele and in the wider community.

Abasiama Samuel Asuquo has received her degree in Media, Communications and Creative Practice, having first joined Keele in 2020 through the International Study Centre from her home country of Nigeria.

Within months of arriving in the UK, with no family connections to rely on in the UK, she had to navigate the hardships caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the isolation brought on by lockdown. But despite this adversity she was not deterred and went on to excel herself in her studies.

As well as her academic pursuits, Abasiama has also been an integral part of the community both at Keele and beyond during her time here.

She served as the Student Voice Representative for her English Module in her second year and is currently the Media and Communication Representative on the Student Voice Committee. She is also a Student Ambassador and a member of the Decolonising the Curriculum Committee, aimed at improving students' experiences in the University.

Outside of Keele she conducted an internship with the YMCA in Crewe, where she produced a documentary on the impact of the pandemic on residents, for which she was nominated as a finalist at the National Undergraduate Employability Awards in the ‘Best Intern’ category (2022), all funded and organised through the Student Knowledge Exchange scheme.

She also volunteered for the Keele University partnership with the Caribbean Elective: Project Anse-La-Raye competition, also organised through Student Knowledge Exchange, working to devise a unique solution to reduce poverty in Anse-La-Raye, St Lucia. Her team made it as finalists, and she has since been invited to visit St Lucia by the High Commission.

Congratulations Abasiama Asuquo!
Keep pushing forward!
