TUESDAY 1ST AUGUST, 2023

TOPIC:
BEWARE OF WRONG ALLIANCES

TEXT:
2 Chronicles 20:1-5

KEY VERSE:
“it happened after this that the people of Moab, with the people of Animon, and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against Jehoshaphat". (2 Chron. 20:1)

ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN:
Isaiah 64-66

MESSAGE:
An alliance is the association of people with common interests and which carry out activities in furtherance of such interests.
There are good and bad Alliances, depending on what they do.

In our text, the Alliance was military, with the wrong purpose of attacking an innocent country. The Moabites and the Ammonites were the descendants of the daughters of Lot, the products of incestuous relationship which the father had with them (Gen 19:30-38); while the people of Mount Seir, the Edomites, were the descendants of Esau Gen 36:8-9). You could see that these three nations had no good history or genealogy. Perhaps, they were moved by envy to attack Judah, or territorial expansionism. This is exactly what is playing out currently between Russia and Ukraine, which may lead to the formation of Alliances as witnessed during the first and second World Wars. Nations have to be careful on which side they should pitch their tents, otherwise, they will experience disasters which were uncalled for, as it happened to those nations that allied against Judah.

The Bible is replete with instructions against joining unholy alliances or companies, namely, Psalm 1; Prov. 1:10-19; 1Cor 15:33; 2Cor 6:14-18; etc. Some of these alliances bind themselves with oath to shed the blood of innocent people, rob people of their valuable possessions, or carry out other forms of antisocial activities. The consequences cannot be different from those ones enumerated above.

Our nation and young people in particular, should be wary of joining Wrong Alliances which can bring about unwarranted disasters. Aliances, whether multinational Or local, which promote peace, peaceful co- existence respect for the dignity of human life, the fear of God, justice, equity, good governance, fairness, equality of all human beings regardless Of Colours, tace or gender, etc, will be beneficial to mankind. Aliances that are formed against, innocent people will always end in a fiasco, for God is the Chief Judge of all the earth who Judges in righteousness as he did for Judah(Gen 18:25).

PRAYER:
Read and pray from Isa 54:15.
Lord, let those who gather against me fall for my sake. Deliver me from joining evil Alliances.

YOUR SOUL IS PRECIOUS

Isaiah 59-63

COMMENTARY
Every single soul is valuable than the whole world put together, you cannot equate a soul with any material thing. Even the English dictionary cannot substantiate the complete meaning of soul. It is the sole idea of God to have a living soul, this made man different from every other creature. The soul is the image of God in man, it helps to understand abstract things, it is immortal, it lives forever and saving a soul is among God's priority. No wonder He sent Jesus to die on the cross of Calvary, to redeem man.

God and the devil are interested in soul. It is incomparable, fabulous and it is the greatest asset we have and heaven rejoices over any soul that is saved.

We are questioned from our text today of the profiting of losing ones soul and gaining the world. Why place value on thing with temporal value than things with eternal value? The soul must be guided with all diligence. We cannot afford to lose it no matter the enticement. Abstaining from anything that will affect your soul. Give your life to Christ so that your soul will have a better resting place at the end of your life.

Your soul is the only property you will travel to heaven with.

PRAYER
Father help me not to gain the whole world and loose my soul.

COMMENTARY
Judas was an outstanding disciple of Jesus, prayerfully selected as the 3rd most important in the executive hierarchy. His problem began when a strange spirit gained access into him. Strange spirits can enter anyone at any time to ruin him, irrespective of his title, position, status, qualification, career, possession, connection, attainment, accomplishment, privileges or and strengths.

It is a free world round the clock; spirits, both good and evil seek convenient dumping grounds to inhabit temporarily or permanently. If they eventually gain access into a person, they influence action, behaviour, value, attitude, character, lifestyle, destiny, destination, environment, events or family. When a man who has an unbroken record of integrity is suddenly found conducting himself in questionable ways, something has obviously entered him. This opens door for unimaginable losses and failures.

Examples are noticeable sudden change of attitude in one's spouse, parent, child, friend, colleague or loss of interest for spiritual values. One whose life has been uneventfully progressive will begin to experience untimely death, bareness, impotency, terminal diseases, complex cases, delay, repatriation, failure, poverty, suffering, addiction, backslides, broken focus, prayerlesness, struggle among others.

Three of man's greatest assets are the three entry points of spirits.
They include:
Spirit - Both good and evil spirits want to infiltrate and occupy man's spirit.
Soul-This is the container of one's mind.
Body-This houses the spirit and soul.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
I embrace the Holy Spirit; I entrust my spirit, soul and body to Him. I align my will, thoughts and desires to His.

PRAYER
Every stranger that entered my spirit, soul, body, womb, family, business, career, project, relationship, spouse, family; I command you to jump out by the power in Jesus mighty name.

NOT OF THE WORLD 2

Daniel 1:3-16

ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN
Isaiah 49-53

COMMENTARY
We see from our text that Daniel and his three friends were taken from their homes and brought under Babylonian captivity. To assimilate the four young men into Babylonian society, they were given new names. The world system seeks to do the same thing to us; not change our names literally but try to cause us to forget the God we serve through certain ideologies. Nevertheless, these four were devoted to God, and Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the food that was being offered; he had standards. These young men (the shining lights of Judah's future) serve as an example to every child of God who faces the forces of the world.

Satan uses a similar strategy against believers today, wanting to indoctrinate us into the world system. Satan wants us to identify or name ourselves about the world and feed us what the world offers. However, Daniel realized that his relationship with God touched every area of his life, including what he ate. Significantly, the root of sin goes back to eating the forbidden fruit.

Be mindful of who we are and steer clear of that which is of the world. Daniel illustrated how to conquer the forces of the world: First, the heart must be set. Daniel purposed in his heart, making up his mind beforehand that he would not compromise. Second, live a well-behaved life. Daniel requested to be excused from the king's table. He made a polite request, showing discretion. Making a stand for Jesus Christ does not mean we must be nasty in character. Third, self-denial must be sought. Daniel and his friends knew this would cost them something, yet they were willing. Be ready for a bad name; be willing to be called a narrow-minded person; be prepared for the loss of friendships; be prepared for anything so long as you can stand fast by Him who bought you with His precious blood. Fourth, make Christ the object of your faith. However, your faith must be put to test but victory is sure. Standing for what you believe may mean that you will stand alone, but that is fine when you have the favor of the Lord. Remember
who you are and be careful not to drift.

We are not of this world.

PRAYER
Dear Lord, help me serve as an example to every child of God who faces the forces of the world and steer clear of that which is of the world.

COMMENTARY
The word "world" in the New Testament, is a translation of the Greeck 'cosmos'. Cosmos most often refers to the planet earth and its human inhabitants who live their lives with their backs turned toward God. Jesus says that Satan is the prince of this (cosmos) world (John 12:31: 16:11). Also, the Bible states that "the whole world is under the rule of evil" ( John 5:19).

The system of the world is governed by Satan. However, Jesus says that those who believe in him are no longer part of this world. Sin has no power to rule us, and we do not have to be trapped in the evil principles and practices of the world. Our faith in Christ changes us. As we strive to be more like Jesus, our hearts become less interested in the things of the world. We are physically present in the "world", but we do not have to be part of its values and practices. We're set apart from the wickedness of the cosmos as we seek to live a holy, righteous life.

We are Christ's ambassadors in a world that is not our home, showing people how amazing our real home world is, and inviting them to come back with us. We're lights of hope to those who are stumbling around in spiritual darkness. The world's values are not the things Jesus values. Tempting as the world's pleasures are, they are not the pleasures of an Ambassador of Christ. Personal pleasure is no longer our goal in life, as it once was, but rather the worship of God and Iiving our lives as light in the dark.

Make every effort to live, think, and act like a Christ Ambassador; for Our citizenship is in heaven, and from it, we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20). Carry on with your life so that the individuals who don't believe can see that there is something you have that is great and unique something other than what's expected, something they'll be interested about, something they'll need for themselves, as well.

THE WORLD OF COUNTERFEITS

COMMENTARY
We live in a world of unlimited possibility. Everything is just about possible. Anything that is not genuine is fake, counterfeit, dummy, imitation, forgery or imposter, etc. The scope of counterfeiting in the world of commerce has grown to the extent that producers of genuine goods are in great pains to differentiate the counterfeit. The only thing some companies do is to provide link or contact to ascertain the genuineness of products.
Nobody can state categorically who is a man or woman by sight. That is the extent we have degenerated.

As Paul wrote to Corinthian Christians, he pointed out that having received Christ, they have automatically renounced every element of dishonesty and deceit. As ambassadors of Christ, we are to showcase the Living Christ in our market places and careers. That is the only pure platform to market our real Christ. Every day we come in contact with men and women that are using the name of Christ as marketing devices. They care little what impression they are making around the neighborhood. Their words are mere idle words. Many so called Pastors are only manipulating their audience with enticing words and psychologically murdering them for self-aggrandizement and profiteering. I was embarrassed one day at Owerri, a very big minister from Aba came to minister at our Church on a Sunday morning, he touched many lives. It was announced that he was to speak at the biggest Cathedral in the afternoon. As young university student, we streamed to hear our big man speak. It was great but I had a wound in my heart till date. In the course of the message he said exactly the opposite of what he said in the morning service at the smaller church. I started doubting the veracity of the message. Is the messenger real or the message fake?

There are many counterfeiting these days among us. Some use deceitful words to make money, or to get political support. Until Christ can state about us, "Behold a man in whom there is no guile," we are mere marketers.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
We are saved to represent Christ and we must genuinely do so.

PRAYER
Lord help me to stand for Christ in words and in deeds.

COMMENTARY
A story was told of a man whose house caught fire. This happened while they were at the fellowship, they got home and found everything razed by fire, On the following Sunday, somebody heard their story and decided to
help.

Every attempt made to locate the couples was to no avail and the supposed help was later given to another woman who was in dare need. After a month or there about, the couple came
running for the earlier invitation given to them but the help meant for them had been given to another. Window of grace, favour and opportunity won't stay open forever that is why it is necessary for you utilize any opportunity given to you by God.

God works mysteriously through human beings. When you hear His voice of opportunity don't hesitate to listen and
answer.

Many children of God have missed great opportunities because of carelessness, non-chalant attitude, ego, pride, unnecessary excuses and so on. Many have missed the opportunity of escaping hell, because they refused to hearken to the voice of salvation. Some have also lost opportunity of employment because of lateness and just being unreasonable.

There is one more opportunity for someone who is yet to encounter Jesus, today is your day take hold of it and receive him as your Lord and saviour. When you feel God is speaking
to you, do not hesitate, respond to his call for therein lies open doors of opportunities and it shall be well with you.

The door of grace, favour and opportunity won't stay open forever

TOPIC:
OUR REDEEMER IS STRONG

TEXT:
Jeremiah 50:34-36

KEY VERSE:
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer" (Psalm 19:14),

MESSENGER:
The redeemer in oriental law of kinship is the one depended upon to defend, avenge, bring back the property of a dead relative, even marry and care for the widow and anyone left in the family of a deceased person. He is the one trusted and all hope is hung on him, but sometimes the redeemer may be weak and anyone trusting in him is at big risk. A weak redeemer cannot defend the family, or avenge those persecuting the family.

When Babylon was persecuting the people of Judah, the people of Judah appeared to be at the mercy of the Babylonians, but the prophet Jeremiah declared as a warning to Babylon that Judah has a Redeemer. Who is not weak but strong; who is not a mere man but his name is the Lord of host. He can conveniently avenge the enemies of Judah, he can defend them. He can save them, and definitely shake and trouble the Babylonians. If the God of Judah is our God, he will arise to defend us against any force persecuting us. Any force trying to deny us the blessings of God, our God and redeemer will shake any kingdom rising against us and give them more trouble than they have in store for us. He will rise and settle every controversy.

History demonstrates again and again the powerful way that God works on behalf of His people. Our comfort in distress lies in the fact that our redeemer is strong. He is not a weak redeemer. He is stronger than any enemy. He will overpower all the forces that are against us. The Lord of hosts is his name, and he will answer to his name. It is our comfort that the Lord of hosts shall thoroughly plead our cause, that he may give rest to our land from enemies round about. God is working on your behalf today in ways you cannot see with your naked eye. Our Redeemer is strong. He is our eternal Advocate and vigorously defends our cause before our Father in heaven. Hallelujah!

CONTROLLING THOUGHT:
We have a strong defense in God.

COMMENTARY
Moments, when we experience the unexpected, have never been fun for anybody. At such times, we are caught up in the web of unpreparedness; it could be a sudden attack, sudden loss of a loved one, sudden breakdown, robbery, terrorist attack, etc.

Whatever it is, we are to put our confidence in the Lord. Confidence, according to Webster's dictionary is trusting, or reliance; an assurance of mind or firm belief in the integrity, stability or veracity of another, or in the truth and reality of a fact. Confidence is very dangerous if the object of the confidence is not God.

The text concludes a short section from father to son about how life can be when we're connected to wisdom, understanding, sound judgment and discretion. Admittedly, there is a compelling promise of safety that is mental and physical: "have no fear" and "the Lord will keep your foot from being snared" when "sudden disaster" shows up. You can be certain about this because the LORD will be at your side."

While you don't need to have any fear, that doesn't mean you won't. You have to choose to trust the Lord to keep your foot
from any trap. A Christian should not fear anything, for your heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord (Ps 112:7-8). Even if an army were to come against you., you can be confident, because the King of Kings is on your side. Even if the surface of the earth were violently overthrown, there is no cause for fear at all. This is the benefit of wisdom: faith in God will save you from all fears (Ps 34:5).

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
Those who fear God and love wisdom have complete confidence in the face of fear.

PRAYER
Lord help me to trust you at all times.

COMMENTARY
In our today's world, people go through ugly situations such as sicknesses, delayed marriages, childlessness, poverty, disappointments, etc. Sometimes these
challenges seem to linger for a long time. Very likely, some children of God conclude that all hope is lost even when they know that God is a great physician.

Sometime ago, we went to pray for a sick sister, a member of our church who was bedridden for years. When she was asked whether she believes that God could heal her, she laughed and said if He wants" and we asked her why the comment, she said that God no longer heals people like her, that her name is no longer in His list and she began to cry.

Her answer was so pathetic. It was full of disappointment and depression but thank God we encouraged her and prayed for her and today she is healed and alive.

God can heal any situation be it broken marriage, shattered health, disappointments, childlessness, depression, unemployment, etc.

The man at the pool had already seen himself as one whose situation was beyond God's intervention. No wonder he started giving excuses when Jesus approached him. His excuses notwithstanding, Jesus went ahead and healed him.

Accept that you will be made whole today, let your faith work for you and it shall come to pass that your present situation will become a story.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
There is no impossibility with God.

PRAYER
Oh Lord, let my faith not fail me at any time. Help my unbelief.

DONT GIVE UP

COMMENTARY
From where we read, Prophet Jeremiah was extremely discouraged but right inside him, there was fire and he knew that when God promises, He never fails. The fire of his dream was still burning.

The key to the fulfillment of the ministry of Jeremiah was that he did not give up. So you also should not give up even when your long asked, sought and knocked prayer have not yet been answered (Luke 18:1)

Don't give up when the field is hard and harvest not looking promising (Galatians 6:9 ).

Don't give up even when you are persecuted for the sake of the gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ. And your reputation seem damaged. (Mathew 5:11).

If you don't give up, God will soon show up, you will succeed and He will be glorified.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
Keep on believing, there are many reasons why you should not give up than why you should give up.

Father, help me to still believe in you even when it seems nothing is happening.

THE HIGH COST OF LYING

KEY VERSE:
"But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?" (Acts 5:3)

Acts 5:1-10

ONE YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN
Hosea 8-14

COMMENTARY
All sins are equal before God and are punishable by Him. It's quite unfortunate how our daily practices indicate that sin is now categorized. People now see sins like adultery, fornication, stealing, idolatry, kidnapping as big sins while sins like strife, wild parties, separating into parties, indecent practices, teaching heresies, lying and others are played down on.

Today, lying is no longer taken seriously by Christians even by Ministers of God. It is a common practice everywhere. Lies are told at homes, market places, offices, schools, in the society and in the church. If a liar is disciplined in the church, you see some members coming boldly to challenge the judgment; saying, "why punish him for ordinary lying"?

Lying is very deadly. It covers evil work and presents the liar as a saint. It makes unrighteousness to thrive except God's intervenes.
You are lying when you present wrong account, this is what killed Ananias and Saphira. If you present wrong report, it is lying, this killed the Amalekite that came to David. Today, some people, even Christians, falsify their age; use someone else's certificate for admission or work; use false measurement in business; use inferior materials in working for others in the name of original; make vows and promises without paying them. All these and other forms of lying are sin.

Every child of God should run away from lying. Stop pretending and covering up. Better be punished by men and save your life at last than get away with men and be punished by God at last. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. "..all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone... " (Rev. 21:8)

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
Living in lies is living in hypocrisy and pretence.

God deliver me from all forms of lies. May it never rule my life in Jesus name, Amen.

*TOPIC:*
*THE LORD WILL HIDE YOU*

*KEY VERSE:*
"And the king commanded Jerahmeel the kings son, Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to sieze Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet, but the Lord hid them" (Jeremiah 36:26, NKJV).

*TODAY'S READING:*
Jeremiah 36:22-26

*COMMENTARY*
God gave Jeremiah prophecies against Judah, Israel and other nations which were penned down by Baruch the scribe. When the words were read in the palace at Jerusalem, the princes were all afraid but when it was read to king Jehoiakim, he got angry against Jeremiah and Baruch. He ordered for their arrest but the Lord hid them.

Prior to this time, the prophecies of Jeremiah had attracted different kinds of persecutions to him. He was severally arrested, thrown into the prison or dungeon, beaten or given one kind of torture or the other. But this time, God intervened in the arrest. He hid Jeremiah and Baruch. It could be this arrest may have led to their death which could have been premature.

As servants of God, there are many forces coming after us just because we are living to please our Lord and Saviour Jesus. Do not be afraid. He will help you quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Be reminded that all the hairs on your head are all numbered. None will fall on the ground except our father in heaven allows it. If you are passing through hard times or being persecuted for your faith or the call, persevere, don't give up.

The Lord knows what you can bear. Any weapon the enemy
designed for your destruction, be sure the Lord will hide you from them. He that keeps you neither sleeps nor slumbers. You will live to fulfil the purpose for which God made you.

*CONTROLLING THOUGHTS*
Anything the enemy designs to take your life prematurely, the Lord will hide you.

*PRAYER*
Father, help me to keep on believing that you are capable of hiding me in the hollow of your hand.

ANGER UNTO GOOD WORK

COMMENTARY
Anger is a strong feeling of being upset or annoyed because of something wrong or bad. To be angry is no sin but the Bible enjoins not to sin while in anger. Anger to wrath or protracted anger is the type that the word of God condemns.

Anger unto good work is the anger that rewrites the wrong to right. It is the anger that works out righteousness. It is anger that glorifies God. Such was displayed by our Lord Jesus Christ when He flogged and over turned the table of men trading and exchanging money in God's house.

Hannah, although loved by her husband Elkanah, but childless for years. She was mocked by her co-wife Peninah. The insult was too much that she could no longer take it. She became angry in the spirit. Consequently, she refused eating, prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. While the family members were leaving Shiloh for home after the family annual worship and sacrifice, Hannah remained behind to pray alone. Her holy anger brought tangible and immediate result. God heard her prayers and gave her Samuel.

Why are you satisfied with mediocrity, lack of achievement, luke warmness, stagnation, backwardness, scarcity, barrenness, singleness, poverty, sick condition and such like. When will you be angry in the spirit like Hannah and Jabez. Jabez anger made him break-out from the class of the sorrowful to the class of honourable. Wake up from your slumber and break-forth.
You can get all you desire through Christ in you.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
If you are lacking holy anger, your life is not complete.

PRAYER
God, let everything that is not excellent and glorious be far from me
