Nigerian tycoon Femi Otedola said he will add to his purchases of Dangote Cement Plc’s shares after his recent acquisition in part helped propel the wealth of billionaire Aliko Dangote, founder of the cement maker, to the highest in a decade.

Dangote Cement’s shares have more than doubled this month helping add $6.9 billion to its founder’s wealth, which jumped to $22 billion as of Thursday, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Otedola’s purchases are “work in progress,” after the tycoon bought the stock last week, he said. The cement maker is also seen as a proxy for Dangote’s new refinery, the world’s biggest such facility in a single location.

The maker of the construction material is attractive because it’s the “only Nigerian cement company with two export terminals and a substantial export capacity,” Otedola said in a series of text messages.

The diversification into the refining positions him to capitalize on the growing demand “in Nigeria and internationally, potentially leading to a considerable increase in revenue and, consequently, his overall wealth,” he said.

Philanthropist and business tycoon, Aliko Dangote recently experienced a significant jump in his net worth. According to Bloomberg’s real-time billionaire index, the CEO of the profound Dangote group has crossed the $20 billion mark.

The index showed that Dangote’s last change in valuation came in at a positive $282 million, while his year-to-date (YTD) change is a staggering +$6.91 billion.

For context, Dangote’s gain trumps Jeff Bezos whose YTD change in the period under review is +4.92 billion, Warren Buffet’s whose YTD change is $6.31 billion, and Bill Gates’s YTD change which came in at $1.62 billion.

Dangote began the year with $9.5 billion as Africa’s second richest man, behind South Africa’s Johann Rupert, who at the time was worth $10.3 billion.

However as the month ran on, Dangote’s billion-dollar net worth crossed the double-digit mark, flatlining at around $14 billion, which firmly reestablished his status as the continent’s richest person. However, as the month ends, Dangote has yet again hit another significant milestone, crossing the $20 billion mark.

This dramatic rise in net worth is attributed to the impressive performance of the Dangote cement company which surpassed the N10 trillion market cap, standing as the first Nigerian company to achieve this milestone.

His newly built oil refinery has also drawn in a lot of investors who have staked significant funds on the prospect of the refinery dominating Africa’s oil network.

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON has received the leadership of the African Biblical Leadership Initiative, ABLI with a call on the organization and the Christian community in Africa and Nigeria in particular to go beyond religious sentiments and tolerate one another.

The delegation which was led by Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon was in her office at the State House Abuja, to sensitise her on the forthcoming 2024 International Conference of ABLI scheduled for Nigeria in October.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu noted that the church must harp more on biblical values especially for the youth.

“Nigeria needs a lot of prayers at this time, especially for the youth. It is very good for us to begin to train the youth and give them a proper mindset”.

“The teachings in our churches should be biblical value based so that we can get a better nation”.

The First Lady was of the opinion that the leadership of the ABLI should continue with their various programs as a way of enhancing the spirituality of not only Nigerian Leaders but Africa in general.

“African nations have a lot in common and we should come together to address some of the issues affecting us”.
