10 Books that Significantly Impacted My Life in 2023 Apart from the Bible:
This list is in no particular order. I have PDF copies of these books and may send them to your email if you're interested.
1. Rediscovering Kingdom Worship by Myles Munroe:
Introduced to Myles Munroe in 2018 by my minister, Kufre Ekpo; he reads Munroe's books and even remembers page numbers. Since then, I have read many of his books and listened to numerous audios, covering topics from leadership to understanding one's potential. Here, Myles challenges God's people to walk in authority while functioning as servant kings. He discusses the concepts of religion and relationship and their impact on us how we worship God today.
2. New Threshold of Faith by Kenneth Hagin:
Kenneth Hagin is my go-to author; I love his simplistic yet efficient writing style. Since reading "The Art of Intercession," I became his fan. In "New Threshold of Faith," Brother Hagin, as he prefers to be called, talks about faith in action with practical examples of how to cultivate faith.
3. The Art of Leadership by Dag Heward Mill:
Mill, a Ghanaian pastor and doctor, offers practical advice to leaders that I find very valuable.
4. Wisdom from Babylon by Gordon T. Smith:
2023 marked my first encounter with Gordon T. Smith, and "Wisdom from Babylon" left me in awe. While I find it challenging to explore new authors, once convinced, I become a fan for life. Gordon measures spirituality with secularism and offers ideas on how to walk a fine line as a Christian in a porous world without becoming overly legalistic.
5. The Touch of the Master Hand by Max Lucado:
Minister Edet Williams introduced Max Lucado to me during my first year at Bible School, offering me a book called "Just Like Jesus"; that book changed my life. I've been a Max Lucado enthusiast since then. It's saddening to hear that he has left the Church of Christ. Max, the Lead Minister at Oak Hill Church, is a grandfather but writes like a young guy and is still very active.
6. Names of God by Nathan Stone:
Another first-time read from the author; I was impressed. I learned a lot about God's personality just by understanding His names as they relate to us.
7. Ideas Rule the World:
We grew up listening to Uncle Sam Adeyemi's program on the radio; a colossus of knowledge, he talks about the power of ideas, how you can share your ideas, and still keep them original.
8. Answering the Toughest Questions by Stan Jantz:
Stan Jantz wrote a book with serious academic research woven into a religious context. The book is scholarly and classic, providing positions on many questions concerning God, the Church, and the Bible. I agree with about 70% of his positions.
9. A-Z of Marriage by Pastor Kingsley:
Blessed with the ministry of marriage, Pastor Kingsley effortlessly presents clear answers and valid points in this coauthored book with his beautiful wife. It's short, concise, and straight to the point.
10. Questions Answered by David Lipscomb:
David Lipscomb, a Church of Christ Minister, accomplished much during his time. He founded Nashville Bible School, which later became David Lipscomb University. The book is a compilation of questions he answered over a period of 40 years. I recommend it to any Bible student.
This year, I'm already reading, and I'd like you to recommend some good local books I could read too. I want to explore our local literature. Currently, I'm reading one from Ministers Joel Nwosu and Uyouko.
