Court Sentences Bobrisky To Six Months Imprisonment Without Option Of Fine .....As Bob accepted he is a man

Controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky has been sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for abusing the Nigerian currency – naira.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos, in her sentence, said the judgment will serve as a deterrent to others who are fond of abusing and mutilating the naira.

Before the sentence, the judge asked Bobrisky about his s*x, and he quickly replied that he is a man.

He was subsequently sentenced to serve his jail term at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

The judge in her ruling held that the jail term would commence on March 24, 2024, the day of his arrest.

The court had on April 5, convicted him after he pleaded guilty to a 4 counts charge of abuse of the naira, made against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The judge adjourned to last Thursday for sentencing, but the Federal Government declared the day a public holiday for the Eid-El-Fitri celebration.

The counts against him read: “that you, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, on the 24th day of March 2024, at Imax Circle Mall, Jakande, Lekki, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court whilst dancing during a social event tampered with the total sum of N400,000.00 (four hundred thousand naira) notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

GOV. UMO ENO APPROVES N450M COUNTERPART FUNDS FOR WORLD BANK PROJECTS IN A'IBOM

In a demonstration of commitment to ensuring that Akwa Ibom State benefits optimally from World Bank initiatives, Governor Umo Eno has approved the release of N450 million as counterpart funding for the Nigeria For Women Project, a World Bank project targeted at empowering the women.

Governor Eno announced the approval when he hosted a World Bank delegation led by the Country Director for Nigeria, Mr. Shudham Chaudhury, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration's readiness to partner in priority areas of agriculture and rural development, as he affirmed that the organisation's vision connects with his administration's ARISE Agenda.

"Most of the programmes like you rightly observed compliment our ARISE Agenda. We are willing to work with you to ensure that we continue to scale up where necessary. For now, agriculture is the key thing the ARISE agenda addresses. We can work with world bank to scale up agricultural potentials and guarantee food security in the State," he said.

Governor Eno said the State will make effort to close gaps in the existing projects and explore more areas of partnership with the World Bank to benefit Akwa Ibom people.

"This visit has really thrown a lot of light on World Bank projects in Akwa Ibom and I must say that in my five months in office, this is the first time I'm getting such briefing on World Bank projects that we are doing.

"Listening to you in this meeting affords us, particularly myself, the privilege of having an understanding of how these things operate. We can assure you that we will close the gaps and by the time you do your next assessment, you will see us moving very fast.

"On the 450 million naira that was supposed to be contributed, I know I have given the approval and I can tell you that in the next one week, we will disburse it," he assured.

The governor therefore, stressed the need for accountability and responsibility towards government on the part of personnel handling the projects in the State, as he consented to the team's recommendation on appointing a senior government official to serve as a focal person and liaison officer between the World Bank and State Government.

"I can assure you that we will work very hard, and I will appoint a Senior Special Assistant who will work as the State focal person to help coordinate these activities and report directly to me on all of these projects so that we can see the gap and understand how to quickly close them," he added.

Earlier, the World Bank Country Director, Mr. Shudham Chaudhury, said his visit was aimed at sharing his knowledge with the State as well as give the overview of World Bank's effort and support to Nigeria in furthering the development of the nation and subnationals.

He harped on the World Bank's position concerning responsibility for the progress and solving development challenges which, according to him, will lift Nigerians out of poverty, stressing that it depends largely on governance and leadership at the State level.

He commended the Governor over the rich content of the ARISE Agenda describing it as attractive and result- oriented.

SUPER EAGLES: PASSION FOR FOOTBALL REIGNITED IN UYO

By Amos Etuk

On Saturday, August 12, 1989 Nigeria's Senior football team then known as the Green Eagles had a crucial World Cup qualifier against Angola for the 1990 showpiece which took place in Italy.

That crucial fixture took place at the Main bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos then a fortress of our football teams.
Two significant events remain vivid till date, the capacity of the Stadium exceeded its limit of over 60,000 fans filled up every available space as early as 2pm that fateful day, there were no empty seats as fans waited patiently till 4pm (then the usual kick off time) for the epic clash.

It was perhaps the biggest spectacle of fans ever witnessed in any Super Eagles fixtures especially after our Nations Cup victory in 1980 at the same venue.

That fixture saw several deaths of fans and our legendary midfielder, Sam Okwaraji who collapsed on the pitch and was later confirmed dead in a Lagos hospital.

That match witnessed one of the greatest moments of passion, support, patriotism for our football team who dominated matches at the National Stadium.

As the years rolled past with subsequent administrations in governance, the state of sports decay became a national embarrassment as facilities became dens for hoodlums, rodents and reptiles having new homes and corrupt Government Officials feasting with greed on the resources meant for sports development.

With these challenges, the national football team (later transformed to the Super Eagles) began the journey of rotation of new home grounds, sometimes based on political sentiments across the country that left the team uncoordinated, unable to adapt to joggled environments and a poor supporter base. It left the team with fluctuating results.

The years ahead especially during the return of democracy saw State Governments take particular attention in developing sporting infrastructure in developing talents, engaging talents and the possibility of boosting sports tourism.

One of the greatest asset of leadership was bestowed in Akwa Ibom State during the administration of His Excellency, Godswill Akpabio who during his stewardship of the Uncommon Transformation era left the legacy of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo which was opened in November 7, 2014 and had three Presidents in attendance.

The stadium, a 30,000 capacity seater today is Nigeria's best sporting facility to behold, and affirmed by CAF and FIFA as the home ground of the Super Eagles for the World Cup qualifiers starting in November 2023 and the last 2023 Nations Cup Qualifier in Group A which took place in Uyo over the weekend.

That mauling of Sao Tome and Principe by the Super Eagles on Sunday witnessed the biggest converge of football fans in Nigeria in over 30years in our sporting history.

As early as 1pm that Sunday, the gates to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium had been thrown open to fans who thronged the stadium to watch their darling team and stars.

Courtesy of Governor Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State who purchased 30,000 tickets for fans and gave the team and the management of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the best of hospitality in the State, the stadium was filled up before 4pm.

The support was massive all through 90 minutes, the atmosphere was electrifying, the organisation was top notch, facilities excellent, the pitch was lush green, the fans kept cheering, everyone assigned to a task ensured that the job got done and the Super Eagles soared, scoring a whopping six goals, the highest in the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium and in recent years across the country.

It has been a welcome reunion for the Super Eagles in Uyo and Akwa Ibom State. In their previous matches in the State, they recorded six wins, one draw and two losses, and also qualified for the World Cup with a game to spare in 2018.

On Sunday, our star boy, Victor Osimehin found a fertile ground in Uyo hitting a hat trick and attaining a personal 20 goal mark and is likely to surpass Yakubu Aiyegbeni's 21 and Segun Odegbami's 23 goals for the senior team respectively. With age on his side, he is certain to better Rashidi Yekini's all time best of 37 goals.

The experience in Uyo left the team Coach, NFF, players, Minister and fans satisfied that the team has settled down in Akwa Ibom State to get more honours. With the best infrastructure, hotels and sporting facilities, the results of our matches signals the best confirmation on why this tradition must be consolidated.

Kudos to the Akwa Ibom State Government led by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State for being the perfect host. The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko has a winning touch on all he sets to achieve and the match on Sunday was just another cap to his winning streaks.

The organisation on the home front was perfect with the legendary Elder Paul Bassey serving as the Coordinator for Sao Tome fixture along with a team of patriots which included NFF Board member, Nse Essien, Commissioners of Transport, Special Duties, Information, Internal Security, SWAN, NUJ and the Akwa Ibom State Football Normalisation Committee which had a successful inaugural outing.

In November later this year, Akwa Ibom State will be waiting, ready to reel out once again the best professional service in excellence as we host Lesotho in our first World Cup Qualifier. It will kick start our journey to USA/Canada in 2026 and it will be another full house of the best converge of fans in Nigeria.

Welcome back home, Super Eagles. Everybody loves the team in Uyo.

Okobo PDP Suspends Fmr. Deputy Speaker, Felicia Bassey, State Officer, Ors. Over Disloyalty to State Leadership, Factionalization, Litigation Against Party

The Peoples Democratic Party in Okobo Local Government Area has wielded the big stick against the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey, a member of the State Exco. of the party, Hon. Mary Unungene and five others, by suspending their membership following their involvement in acts considered to be inimical to the progress and image of the party in local government chapter.

The decision to suspend the errant members was reached at a joint meeting of the Okobo PDP Executive Committee and the Local Government Caucus, presided over by the Chapter Chairman, Mr Ukpong Effiong Edet, at the Chapter Secretariat of the party on Friday, 18th August 2023.

Offences committed by the suspended members were listed in a Communique presented at the end of the meeting and made available to newsmen.

The meeting cited the refusal of the embattled members to honour the directive of the State Chairman of the Party, their continued polarization of the party, as well as the instigation of security agencies and resort to court action against the local government chapter of the party as part of their unconstitutional conducts.

Other affected persons are Hon. Mary Simon, Elder Imoh Effiong Okpo, Mrs Imaobong Oboho, Mr Christian Titus Martin, and Mrs Patricia Silas Akwa whose suit filed against the party was recently struck out by the State High Court in Uyo.

The Communique was signed by about 200 party faithful, including members of the Ukpong Edet-led Chapter Executive Committee, Ward Chairmen and officers of the party, as well as members of the Local Government Caucus of the Party, serving councillors and supervisors in the Local Government Council, among others.

OKOBO POLITICS: THE CRUX OF THE MATTER ARISING:

HIS EXCELLENCY, GOVERNOR UMO ENO WILL HEAR THIS

According to an Italian Political Scientist, Giovanni Sartori in his political theory of 1973, defined Politics as a degree of structural differentiation within the framework of human collectivities. Giovanni Sartori was one of the great giants in the worlds of philosophy and Political Science. But this is not the topic for today vis-a-vis the recent political turmoil or brouhaha in Okobo masterminded by greed and desperation exhibited by one or two individuals using some innocent but hunger ridden youths of Okobo as soft target tools to further their usual antics of being relevant and continuously stay in power ad infinitum for largely personal and selfish reasons. This should be condemned and rebuked by all.

Having set the tone for this discussion, Giovanni Sartori made mention of "structural differentiation" and most importantly "human collectivities". A good Student of Giovanni Sartori, which I believe we are, should note that no individual anywhere democracy is practised has right to take decision on behalf of the other individual without his or her consent. Gone are those days politics was played as a secret cult group whereby very few privileged individuals, may be with or without class, took critical decision on behalf of the greatest majority.

It is in public domain that His Excellency, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno had directed that Stakeholders of various Local Government Areas in the State should hold a meeting, among other issues to be discussed, principally the appointment of Personal Assistants (PAs) across all the Wards in the State and reconciliation of aggrieved Party men and women of PDP and get them back to the political fold.

In Okobo, the said meeting was purportedly held surreptitiously in a private abode (residence) of an individual not suitable for such an important meeting and without extending proper invitations to the well recognized and statutory Stakeholders in Okobo. For instance, the following critical Stakeholders who were supposed to be in attendance and play leading role were missing; namely: Okobo Chapter Chairman of PDP, Mr Eteka Ukpong, Executive Chairman and Chief Security Officer of Okobo LGA, Sylvester Attah, Ph.D, former Speaker of AKHA, Rt.Hon (Chief) Barrister Peter Linus Umoh, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the State, Chief (Barrister) Ekpenyong Ntekim, former Chairmen of Okobo/Vice Chairmen, former Commissioners and Board members among others.

Ladies and gentlemen, let us be sincere to ourselves, the right to convene meeting of such magnitude is vested in the office of the Chapter Chairman of PDP, Mr Eteka Ukpong, since it was purely and entirely party affairs. Let me tell you for free that trying to usurp someone's power or right can be regarded as impersonation which is punishable by the relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Again, let's be fair to ourselves and learn how to overcome the fear and tension associated with exiting public office. Politicians should not only rehearse how to conduct themselves on their way to public office but should also rehearse how to conduct themselves on their way out of public office. Always remember that power is transient. No condition is permanent. From the days of yore, Kingdoms and Empires have come and gone. Although power is not alar carte, as it involves struggles, conflicts and antagonism, it may not be forever because there is also a limitation to political control. Please take heart and move on in other businesses because you cannot get it right all the time.

Let it be reiterated again, that any Stakeholders meeting in this context without the presence of the Executive Chairman of Okobo LGA, Dr Sylvester Attah, Okobo Chapter Chairman of PDP, Mr Eteka Ukpong, Rt. Hon ( Chief) Barrister Peter Linus Umoh, Chief (Barrister) Ekpenyong Ntekim, former Chairmen of the Council, former Commissioners and Board members etc cannot be called Stakeholders meeting but shareholders meeting.

Who is more PDP in Okobo than the above-mentioned personalities. No one should claim to be more Catholic than the Pope.

Those who played leading roles and paid the supreme price for the creation of Okobo Local Government Area should not be sacrificed on the altar of sheer blackmail and mudslinging by mediocre. This blackmail and character assassination must stop forthwith.

The flimsy reason and other trivial issues lined up as reasons for the purported suspension of the Chapter Chairman of PDP in Okobo is too weak, null and void, and of no legal effect whatsoever, it is an absolute nullity and the law treats it as if it had never existed or happened. Those who feel they can strip their father naked because of peanut should rather think deeply about themselves. Let them remember an African proverb that says: "What an old man can see sitting down, the youth cannot see standing up"

As a man of God, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno will employ the judgment model of King Solomon in the popular case between the two women in the Bible who laid claim to the only surviving child, and hand over the surviving child (PDP) to the Okobo Chapter Chairman of PDP, Mr Eteka Ukpong and endorse all his decisions for not playing to the gallery while ordering his accusers to take their dead child (purported suspension) home for burial.

We must put an end to food is ready politics in Okobo and settle down for serious political engagement that will secure and guarantee the well being of our people.
