; Lecturers Are Resorting To Farming, Other Jobs - ASUU President
Speaking to Punch Newspaper, ASUU’s President Professor Emmanuel Osodeke said the government’s decision not to meet the union’s demands is hurtïng the nation.
“So many lecturers are leaving to engage in farming and others; lecturers are tired of the treatment they’re receiving from the government and because of this, they are looking for alternatives. So many more will leave even after the strike too,” he said.
“I pity the country; Nigeria will be the lósér for it. Instead of coming to the table; look at how they will solve the issue, rather, they believe in puñishïng lecturers. It’s so sãd. Your lecturers went on strike, you believe they will become hungry and come back to beg. Many lecturers will also leave to venture into other areas; some are also looking at becoming self-employed.”

Indications emerged yesterday that the Federal Government may consider the option of proscribiñg the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU if it fails to Call Off the prolonged strike after an offer was made to it.
; The FG has also approved an additional N100 billion for the university sector as part of the understanding in the re-negotiation of the 2009 Agreement.
Besides, N50 billion was equally approved to be shared by the university-based unions as earned allowances.

STRIKE: SSANU, NASU Suspend 5 months strike after a meeting with the Minister of Education today.
This will be effective from Wednesday August 24, 2022.
FG has committed N50b to pay earned allowances for members of SSANU, NASU and ASUU.
FG Promised N60, 000 Increment In Professor's Salaries - ASUU
Fresh facts have emerged on why the Academic Staff Union of Universities rejected the proposal by the Federal Government.
But the zonal coordinator, Port Harcourt zone, Stanley Ogoun, in a statement made available to The PUNCH noted that the Federal Government noted that it would increase the salaries of professors by N60,000 while other lecturers would have their salaries increased within the range of N30,000 and N60,000.
"Nigerians should be aware of offers the so-called minister came up with. These are:
(a) 170 billion naira for revitalisation in the 2023 budget;
(b) a promise to increase by N60,000 the salary of a professor at the bar in next year’s budget;
(c) no statement on the amendment of the National University Commission Act gathering dust at the National Assembly
(d) payment of two tranches of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance in next year’s budget;
(e) a promise to adopt the University Transparency and Accountability Solution; and
(f) another promise to release the white papers.”
