*Oyo Assembly makes move on implementation of online studies across the State tertiary institutions*

The Oyo State House of Assembly has directed its Standing Committee on Tertiary Institutions to liase with the Management of Higher Schools across the State and deliberate on the measures to engage in adopting online studies in the Institutions.

The directive was issued following a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Oyo East and West State Contituency in the State Assembly, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, during Thursday plenary.

Presenting the motion, titled " Need for more intensified efforts to Institutionalise Education Technology or Online Education system by the Management of all State owned Tertiary institutions in the State to Expand access to Education and Increase Internally Generated Revenue , Hon. Olorunpoto noted that this new era of digital transformation calls for Technological based educational system inorder to enhance effective and dynamic learning environment that prepare students for success in the twenty - first Century.

"The Online learning platform and virtual classroom empower learners for the future and provides personalised experience that cater for individual needs and learning styles. It has become pronounced in the modern world, especially in educational institutions due to rising needs and emergence of some health challenges experience in the recent past" the lawmaker added.

Hon. Olorunpoto stressed that the introduction of online courses or programmes by some institutions in Nigeria has helped to increase their Students ' database and create more access to Education degrees, masters and doctorate programmes especially for working adults.

He stressed further that the adoption of Online Educational system by the State owned Tertiary Institutions can also pave the way for increment in Internally Generated Revenue and bring rapid developments to the State.

*Makinde Forwards Names of Adeniran, AbdulRaheem to Oyo Assembly For Confirmation As Board Chairmen*

The Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde on Tuesday forwarded the names of Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran and Bar. AbdulRahman Abiodun AbdulRaheem to the State House of Assembly for confirmation as Board Chairmen

The Governor is seeking the confirmation of Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran as the Chairman of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, while Bar. AbdulRahman Abiodun AbdulRaheem is being considered as the Chairman, Board of Oyo State Education Trust Fund.

The two letters were read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.

The letter reads in part "The nomination of Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran is in compliance with Section 4 of Oyo State Compulsory and Free Universal Basic Education Law, 2005. The House is further informed that the nominee is a seasoned and experienced educationist as required by the law.

" The nomination of Bar. AbdulRahman Abiodun AbdulRaheem is in compliance with Section 12 of Oyo State Educational Trust Fund Law, 2016. The House is further invited to note that the integrity, knowledge, expertise and experience of the nominee has been considered."

The House directed its committees on Education (Basic and Secondary) and Tertiary Institutions, Science and Technology to submit their reports on the screening and confirmation of the two nominees in one week.

Oyo Assembly Appeals To Makinde's Urgent Intervention Over Deplorable Condition of Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin Road, Others


The Oyo State House of Assembly has decried the deplorable condition of 3.5km Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin road in Lagelu Local Government area of Ibadan and other such unmotorable roads across the State and appealed to the State Government for urgent intervention.

The House made the call Tuesday while discussing a motion brought before it by member representing Lagelu State Constituency, Hon Akintunde Olajide.

The motion was titled "Need to eulogize His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde for infrastructural development strides under Omituntun 1.0 and make a passionate appeal for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin road in Lagelu Local Government and other deplorable roads in the State"

The House noted that such deplorable roads across Oyo State have crippled socio-economic activities of the people.

Hon Akinjide Olajide in the motion said "The deplorable situation of Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin road in Lagelu LG requires urgent and adequate Government intervention. The condition of this road up to Kute/Jenriyin from Wofun junction which is about 3.5km calls for serious concern and immediate rehabilitation. The economic importance of this road to the residents of the area cannot be underestimated . The road serves not less than 17 communities and it leads to Olorunda-Abaa and to Yawiri, in Akobo.

" The road is presently in a terrible condition and has become almost impassable. All the box curverts have been overflowed with no sign of drainage on both sides of the road. The road is ruined completely to the extent that no one can say specifically the number of lives of Okada riders with their passengers that had been lost on this road "

Hon Olajide added that the road usually becomes completely impassable during heavy downpour, stressing that it is always a death trap whenever it rains.

*Oyo Assembly announces, to screen Makinde's additional Commissioners Designate*

In addition to already seven nominees screened and confirmed by the Oyo State House of Assembly, the House has announced Nine more Commissioners Designate at its Plenary proceedings on Friday, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi.

The names of the new set of nominees are Mr. Abiodun Aikomo, Mr. Segun Olayiwola, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbisun, Prof. Abdulwaheed Soliu, Barrister Sunkanmi Olaleye, Hon. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, Mr. Williams Akin - Funmilayo, Prince Dotun Oyelade and Chief Obafemi Ademola Ojo.

In the letter forwarded to the State Assembly by the Executive Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and read by the Deputy Speaker, stated that the nominees were considered worthy of appointment to serve the State meritoriously.

The House has however directed the Designates to forward 50 copies of their credentials, evidence of clearance from the Code of Conduct to the Office of the Clerk , and equally aappear for formal screening and approval on Tuesday, 25th July, 2023 by 10 : 00am.

Recall that the first batch , which includes Prof. Kehinde Sangodoyin, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, Barrister Seun Asamu, Mr. Akinola Ojo, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, Hon. Adebisi Adeniyi and Mrs. Toyin Balogun were already confirmed by the House to be part of the Executive Cabinet of the Pace - Setter State.

The House has adjourned till Tuesday, 25 July, 2023.

Hajj: Excitement as Oyo Deputy Gov Arrives Nigeria

It was a moment of joy as the deputy governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul Raheem Adebayo Lawal arrived Nigeria on Tuesday after a succesful completion of Hajj rites in Makkah.

He departed King Abdul Aziz International Airport, Jeddah early Tuesday and arrived safely at Muritala international airport.

Among top government functionaries who also departed Saudi Arabia include Senator Sumonu Monsurat and Alhaja Mutiat Ladoja.
