The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on Thursday began his medical examination in line with a court order.

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja, had ordered the Department of State Services, DSS, to grant Nnamdi Kanu, access to his medical records.



The Court, on Thursday in his judgement, held that objections the security agency raised against Kanu’s request lacked merit. It added that Kanu is constitutionally entitled to have access to both the records he requested for and the medical doctors of his choice.

Justice Nyako held that the independent medical examination of Kanu by his personal physicians should be supervised by the DSS, with the entire process recorded and sealed for security purposes.



Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Esq, IPOB’s lead counsel in a statement signed on Thursday, said Kanu was profoundly excited by the news from the court and subsequently directed that his appreciation be conveyed to his indefatigable legal team, ably led by Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN.



He affirmed that Kanu’s medical examination had commenced in earnest, by the recommended team of medical experts, with the cardiologist surgeon and otolaryngologist from the best hospitals in Abuja, all duly recommended by Kanu's wife.



The statement reads in part, "We visited our indefatigable and formidable Client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu – today, being the 20th day of July 2023, at the SSS Headquarters, Abuja, where he is still being illegally and unconstitutionally held in a solitary confinement.



"Onyendu was specifically briefed on the Judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, where Justice Binta Nyako, this morning, delivered another landmark judgment on our Application for Order of Judicial Review.



"Onyendu was acquainted of the far-reaching Orders made by His Lordship today, in the landmark Judgment, wherein His Lordship directed the SSS to allow Onyendu access to Medical Doctors of his choice, who are to medically examine Onyendu outside the SSS facility without the influence of the SSS.



"The court further directed that all such examination(s) must be recorded. Furthermore, His Lordship directed the SSS to avail Onyendu with all his medical records.



"Onyendu was profoundly excited by the news of this superlative outing, and consequently, directed that his appreciation be conveyed to his indefatigable legal team, ably led by Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN.

"It is imperative to use this medium to inform Ezigbo UmuChineke that the Phase 1 of Onyendu’s medical examination has commenced in earnest, by the recommended team of Medical Experts, which Cardiologist Surgeon and Otolaryngologist are from the best hospitals in Abuja, all duly recommended by Onyendu’s adorable wife.


"We shall keep Ezigbo UmuChineke abreast of every development as they unfold.

"Onyendu is in total agreement that his indefatigable team is journeying towards a landslide victory, and believing the Almighty ChukwuOkike Abiama that the future is indeed bright.

"Important highlight on the legal fireworks that will ensue on 14th September, 2023 at the Supreme Court, during the Hearing on the long-awaited Appeal, were equally noted, though the details shall remain private."

Protesters have besieged the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the office of the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) over a ruling of the supreme court on the deadline for use of old naira notes.

A seven-member panel of the apex court led by John Okoro, on Wednesday, temporarily restrained the federal government from restricting the use of the old naira notes after February 10.

The ex parte application was filed by governors of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara states.

Speaking with reporters in Abuja, Obed Agu, one of the leaders of the protesters, said President Muhammadu Buhari should issue an executive order maintaining the aforementioned date as the deadline for the use of old naira notes.

Agu also said the ruling was “not legal”, adding that by the injunction, the apex court would enable politicians to buy votes.

“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to issue an executive order for the February 10th deadline and prevent further extension,” he said.

“The supreme court wants to aid corrupt politicians to buy votes.

“The supreme court ex parte application has no legal basis. We are rejecting it, because it is a plot to open the bank vaults to enable vote buyers and holders of illicit wealth to have cash to buy votes.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja,coram Hon. Justice Nyako, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/2341/2022, today granted leave to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for an order of Mandamus to be invoked, mandating the State Security Services (DSS) and its Director General, to grant Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unrestricted access to his medical Doctors.

His Lordship, this morning, delivered Ruling on an application that bordered on the need for urgent medical attention to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, argued by Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, CON, OFR- a foremost Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who led Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor and a team of lawyers.
The court in a well considered Ruling delivered this morning, consequently granted leave for judicial review in the form of order of Mandamus, compelling the State Security Services, and its Director General to allow Mazi Nnamdi Kanu UNHINDERED ACCESS to his medical doctors to enable them conduct an INDEPENDENT EXAMINATION of his present deteriorating health condition as earlier ordered by the Honourable Court on the 21st day of October, 2021.

His Lordship also granted leave for an order of mandamus compelling the State Security Services and its Director General, to provide Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with ALL HIS MEDICAL RECORDS, from the 29th Day of June, 2021,when he was remanded in the custody of the DSS, till date.

This application is aimed at ensuring that the DSS will not hide under any indiscretion to treat with levity the deteriorating health condition of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

We shall keep the world abreast of every development in Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's case.

The young man here is a musician from Ikwo LGA of Ebonyi State with a stage name, Ibinabo. He was booked by a young man identified as Consider who is one of the court-sacked LGA chairmen in Ebonyi State and comes from Ohaozara LGA. He booked Ibinabo to play at the burial event of his mother in-law in Ohaozara last week.

When it was about nightfall, Ibinabo ordered his crew to pack up and call it a day. Ohaozara Development Centre Coordinator, Machiaveli Uzo emerged from nowhere and ordered that Ibinabo should play a song of campaign for Hon. Francis Nwifuru, APC governorship candidate in Ebonyi State. Ibinabo replied him that it was nightfall and they should be leaving for Abakaliki, and that he's not in politics. He threatened to attack him with his boys if he didn't do what he ordered him to do. Ibinabo for the sake of peace picked microphone and started playing it for him. When after 20 minutes he dropped the microphone, Machiaveli ordered him to pick the microphone again and play until he would be satisfied.
Ibinabo this time refused to pick the microphone and therefore, ordered his crew to pack up so they could leave the scene.

Machiaveli and his trigger-happy boys descended on Ibinabo and whisked him into a room in the compound and locked him up after brutalizing him and breaking one of his eyes completely. Police in Ohaozara arrived and rescued him from the room as he was taken to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for treatment. At that point, Consider had left for Abakaliki to attend a stupid meeting with Gov. David Umahi.

Ikwo youths were challenged by this act, but I pray there's no reprisal as that could leave a collateral damage behind. The cultists Hon. Francis Nwifuru is feeding have begun to take their madness to non-political elements in Ebonyi and it's important at this point that Ebonyi people know what his administration will look like should he be allowed to become Governor of Ebonyi State.
