Alhaji Muhammadu Shehu Kangiwa was the first elected civilian governor of Sokoto State, Nigeria in the short-lived Nigerian Second Republic, holding office from October 1979 to November 1981.

In 1981, he increased the number of Local Government Areas in the state from 19 to 32.

He died in November 1981, falling from a horse while playing polo in the 1981 edition of the Georgian League.

The House of Representatives has passed the Petroleum Industry Bill following the development that comes about 24 hours after the House received the report on the bill.

The Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) has passed third reading at the house of representatives.

The ninth house would have succeeded in enacting important legislation.

Nagarta College Sokoto was established and commissioned in the year 1905. It produced many of the Nigerian leaders including Northern Premier, Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardaunan Sokoto and President Shehu Shagari.

Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki, Sultan Muhammadu Maccido and Sheikh Abubakar Gummi were also products of the School. Many Emirs, Military leaders and Politicians attended the School.

Insecurity: Buhari Visits Borno Thursday

President Muhammadu Buhari will pay a one-day working visit to Borno State, for appraisal of security situation in the Northeast on Thursday.

The Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Malam Bashir Ahmad confirmed that during the visit, The President will also commission some developmental projects executed by the Borno State Government.

Sir Ahmadu Bello (Sardaunan Sokoto) initiated plans to modernise traditional Quranic education in Northern Nigeria. He set up a commission to this effect and gave official recognition to the schools.

The commission recommended the introduction of secular subjects in the schools and creation of different classes for pupils.

He was assassinated on 15 January, 1966.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) following the death of Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru in a plane crash on Friday.

Prior to his appointment Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code named Operation HADIN KAI.

BREAKING: Sokoto State Commissioner of Agriculture, Arzika Tureta is Dead

Death has occurred of one of the members of Sokoto State Executive Council, Alhaji Muhammadu Arzika Tureta.

Until his death, Tureta is the current Commissioner of the Ministry of Agriculture in Sokoto and is one of the long serving Commissioners in the State.

Caliphate Times Media confirms that, he died at Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto (UDUTHS) after an illness.

The funeral prayer is said to hold at Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto at 11:00 a.m.
