NDDC Pledges Support for Orphans in Niger Delta: The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC has assured orphans in the Niger Delta region of the support of the Commission in ameliorating the hardships they face.

The NDDC Acting Managing Director, Engr. Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, spoke after receiving an Award of Excellence in commemoration of the 2022 World Orphans Day, from St. Kizito Orphanage, Agbàhor, Delta State, at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Audu-Ohwavborua thanked the Orphanage for appreciating his contributions and personal efforts at supporting orphans through the years, assuring them of the unalloyed support of the NDDC for orphans in the Niger Delta region.

The NDDC boss stated: "There is nobody who is self-made. This Award is in recognition of my efforts to ameliorate the hardships endured by orphans. As NDDC, we will do everything possible to support orphans in the Niger Delta region."

The Acting MD stated that as an orphan himself, he knows that God uses people to help him. “Today, my heart goes out to all orphans in the world,” he said.

Audu-Ohwavborua remarked: “I will like to implore everyone to lend a helping hand to any ophan around him or her. That help will go a long way and at the NDDC, we will continue to support the orphans any way we can, both individually and as a corporate entity. That should be the message to the world today.”

Earlier, while presenting the award, the Chaperon of St. Kizito Orphanage, Mrs. Benedicta Esiri commended the NDDC boss for his empathy towards orphans, noting that the Award of Excellence was well deserved.

She noted that the World Orphans Day is an important date for everyone to come together and show that they care about the orphans in their community.

“Millions of young children face problems because one or both of their parents are no longer in this world. It is important for the community to make arrangements for their education, health, shelter, food, and social well-being.”

NDDC Donates Essential Drugs to Imo State Govt.

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has handed over essential drugs to the Imo State Government for distribution to health centres in communities affected by flood, as part of measures to ameliorate the suffering of the people in the Niger Delta region.

Handing over the drugs to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, at the Imo State Government House, Owerri, the NDDC Acting Managing Director, Engr Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, said that it was part of the Commission’s efforts to improve health services in the rural communities of the Niger Delta region.

The NDDC Chief Executive Officer, who was accompanied by other directors of the Commission, presented the list of the drugs, already delivered, to the governor. He also presented a copy of his book, entitled: “The Real Enemies of the Niger Delta,” to Governor Uzodimma.

Audu-Ohwavborua assured the Governor that the NDDC would be fair in the distribution of projects in the Niger Delta states, noting that the Commission was making efforts to provide relief materials to flood victims in the region.

The NDDC boss explained that the Commission was concerned by the pains of the Internally-Displaced Persons who were exposed to poor hygiene and increased risk of disease outbreaks.

He said the essential medications, which would be made available to the other NDDC mandate states, included anti-malaria, anti-biotic, anti-fungal, anti-diarrhea and anti-emetic drugs. Others, he said, would address the challenges of diabetes, hypertension and general fever.

Responding, Governor Uzodimma, said he was delighted that the NDDC was taking appropriate actions to address the challenges facing the people of the region, noting that the Acting Managing Director was “able and capable.”

He remarked: “The Acting MD knows the terrain of the Niger Delta region very well and over the years, he has shown capacity. With him in the saddle, I expect positive changes in the NDDC.”

“Under your watch, I expect the NDDC to go back to fulfilling its mandate by executing projects the touch the lives of the people.”

The governor appealed to the NDDC to pay its counterpart funding to the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises, LIFE-ND, programme, which is partly funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, to make it possible for Imo State to benefit from it.

Uzodimma called the attention of the NDDC to the dilapidated section of the Owerri-Port Harcourt Road at the boundary between Imo and Rivers States. He said that some emergency measures should be taken to ease the pains of commuters between the two states.

Ex-IYC boss seeks support for NDDC acting MD

A former President Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide, Udengs Eradiri, has called on youths and other stakeholders in the Niger Delta to support President Muhammadu Buhari's decision to appoint Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua as the Acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Commending Buhari for the appointment, Eradiri in a statement signed at the weekend in Port Harcourt Rivers State, said Audu-Ohwavborua deserved the support of stakeholders pending the inauguration of the Commission's substantive board.

While expressing optimism that the board promised by the President would soon be ready, insisting that the existing management of NDDC must be allowed to implement its vision for the Commission.

He observed Audu-Ohwavborua had already hit the ground running refocusing and repositioning the Commission for optimum performance.

Eradiri said on assumption of office, the acting MD gave clear directives on the flood disaster that ravaged the Niger Delta adding that the Commission was in the process of rolling out massive relief materials and medical interventions to assist victims of the flood.

He said Audu-Ohwavborua had also paid internal obligations including salaries of some categories of workers accumulated by the NDDC and had taken steps to reorganise the Commission.

He noted that the acting MD had also commenced consultations with critical stakeholders and member states to get their inputs and bring them up to speed with the ongoing reforms in the Commission.

Eradiri described the acting MD as an experienced administrator, who understood the challenges of the NDDC with the capacity to proffer required solutions having been part of the Commission's system.

He said: "We are happy with the appointment of Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, and we commend President Buhari for his commitment to the wishes of the people of the Niger Delta region.

"The Acting MD has been part of the Commission's system and knows the needs and challenges of the youths of the region. He is a round peg in a round hole. This is perhaps the first time an experienced within the NDDC system, who rose to the position of a director, is being appointed to manage the affairs of the Commission.

"We call on all the youths and stakeholders in the Niger Delta to support the new acting MD to enable him carry out his vision and mandate for the Commission pending the inauguration of the substantive board of the NDDC.

"The acting MD has shown that he understands the challenges of the NDDC following his performance since he assumed office. He has since then given clear directives on the flood disaster and the NDDC will soon roll out massive relief materials and medical interventions to support victims of the flood.

"Besides, the new MD has refocused and repositioned the Commission for optimum performance. He has also ensured payments of internal obligations including accumulated salaries of some categories of workers”.
