Court Remands two Teenagers over Gang r**e in Rivers.

A Chief Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Nigeria, has remanded two male students of Okporo Secondary School in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area over an alleged gang r**e.

According to reports, the two students, identified as Chukwudi Daniel, 14, and Confidence Gbarabe, 14, were arraigned on Thurday, 18th November, 2021, on charges bordering on defilement which allegedly occurred on 27th October.

The accused all pleaded not guilty.

The the Chief Magistrate, Rita Oguguo, asked that the two students be kept in a remand home in Port Harcourt as the case was adjourned to 7th December, 2021, for ruling on bail application and hearing.

into law.

This means that Nigeria is moving towards a net zero emission deadline plan in the country.

Nigeria, Ghana to get Malaria Vaccine by First Quarter of 2022 –AHM.

Nigeria and other African countries like Ghana are at the verge of having access to the newly developed malaria vaccine.

This was announced by the Assembly of Health Ministers of the ECOWAS region on Friday, 12th November, 2021, at the 22nd ordinary session of the health ministers in Abuja, Nigeria's capital.

According to the announcement, the malaria vaccine will be delivered by the first quarter of 2022.

The Health Minister of Ghana, who is the chairman of the assembly, Dr Kweku Agyeman-Manu, said that Nigeria, would also support the West African region in the procurement of the vaccine.

He said: “We are expecting that the vaccine will be adopted and the rollout will begin in Africa as early as the first quarter of next year.

“For African countries, especially in the West African sub-region, we have been doing our own research on malaria. We have been getting resources and support to control malaria for some time now. What we are looking forward to is a vaccine that will help us eliminate malaria completely by 2030, and fortunately, that is where we are now.

“The next question is: How are we going to procure the vaccines? Resources will come from countries. Also, specific countries like Nigeria (and others) will have to do budgetary allocations.

“To support procurement, GAVI will continue to support us. We are working to ensure vaccine plants in Africa actually get to produce malaria vaccines too. Some countries have been identified by WAHO already.

“Nigeria, Senegal and Ghana are some of these countries that are leading with vaccine manufacturing, not only malaria, but other vaccines as well.”

INEC To Allow Inmates Exercise Voting Rights – Commissioner.

Nigeria's electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has disclosed its readiness to allow inmates to partake in electoral activities in the country.

This was dislosed by the National Commissioner of INEC’s Outreach and Participation Committee (OPC), Dr Adekunle Ogunmola, on Wednesday, 10th Novemeber, 2021 while hosting the Executive Director of CAPIO, Rev. Fr Jude Isiguzo.

Malala Yousafzai is off the market as she ties the knot with her heartthrob Asser Malik, in an Islamic ceremony in Birmingham, UK.

Malala, 24, who was shot by the Taliban years ago for standing up for the girl child's right to education, shared the NEWS on her twitter handle, with a post that read;

AnambraDecides: INEC Declares Election Iconclusive, to Hold Supplementary poll in Ihiala LGA

Nigeria's electorial commission, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the collation of results for the Anambra state governorship election.

The suspension was announced by the returning officer for the election, Florence Obi, on Monday, 8th November, 2021.

According to Obi, the suspension is to create a room for a supplementary election in Ihiala LGA, which had been allegedly reported to have had no election in the area.

"The outstanding result is for Ihiala LGA, where for various reasons, the commission could not deploy materials yesterday. Consequently, based on constitutional considerations and provisions of the Electoral Act, as well as revised regulations and guidelines for the conduct of election issued by the commission, supplementary election is indicated for Ihiala local government area.

“First, section 179(2) of the constitution provides for a candidate to secure both the highest number of votes cast and 25 percent of the votes cast in at least two-third of the LGAs in the state to be declared the winner of the governorship election. Therefore, it is important to complete the election in Ihiala LGA to make this determination.

“Also, section 179(3) of the constitution provides that a runoff election shall take place if no candidate meets the requirement of subsection 2 of the section. Such a runoff shall be between the candidate with the highest number of votes and one among the remaining candidates who secured a majority of votes in the highest number of LGAs in the state. This further underscores the importance of conducting election in Ihiala LGA so that we shall cover all the LGAs to make the declaration.

“Secondly, section 26 of the Electoral Act envisages the postponement of an election where there is a cogent and verifiable reason to do so, especially threat of breach of the team. One major reason for not deploying for election in Ihiala on Saturday, 6th November, is due to security threats which led to staffing and transportation constraints, among others.

“Finally, clause 47 of the revised regulations and guidelines for the conduct of elections provides that supplementary election shall be conducted when the commission, due to logistical challenges, is unable to deploy on election day.

“Given the foregoing, it becomes imperative to bring Ihiala LGA at par with the other 20 LGAs in this election before we can make a valid declaration or take any further action based on the extant law.

“Therefore, I, professor Florence Banku Obi, in my capacity as returning officer for this election, hereby announce the suspension of the process of collation of results and declaration of a winner until a supplementary election is held in the 326 polling units in Ihiala LGA of the state, ” she said.

Before the suspension was announced, the candidate of APGA, Charles Soludo, who is a former governor of Nigeria's Central Bank, (CBN) is in the lead, with 103,946, beating candidates of Nigeria's ruling party, the All Progressives Congress ( APC) and Nigeria's Main opposition party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) who has secured 51,322 and 42,942 respectively.

The election has been fixed for 9th November, 2021.

Nigerian Army Apologises for Behaviour of Soldier. The Nigerian army has apologised for the actions of one of its officials who was seen in a viral video assaulting a member of the National youth service corps. According to the Army, it was embarrassed by the incident. In the video clip, a female Nigerian soldier identified as Lt. Chika Anele, was seen assaulting a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Ifeyinwa Ezeiruaku, in Cross River State. Aduremedia gathered that the incident occured after they both had an argument. Lt. Anele was seen scooping what looked like dirty water and then pouring it all over Ezeiruaku, who was seen kneeling down. The corps member, Ms Ezeiruaku is currently undergoing her mandatory NYSC programme at the 13 Brigade headquarters of the army, in Calabar, where the incident happened. The army, on Thursday, 23rd September, 2021, issued a statement of embarrassing the incident has been on the force. “The Nigerian Army wishes to tender unreserved apology to the victim, her family members, friends, National Youth Service Corps and to Nigerians in general for the unwholesome treatment meted out to the corps member,” the army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, said in a statement. According to Mr Nwachukwu, a brigadier-general, the officer involved in the incident has been identified and “would be made to undergo regimental orders (trial) in line with the extant provisions of the Armed Forces”. “This act is not only condemnable, but unprofessional and against established precepts of discipline in the Nigerian Army,” he added.
