CONVOCATION CHARGES FOR THE 36TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY

The Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, wishes to announce that the 36th Convocation Ceremony of the University for the Award of Bachelor’s Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas and Prizes to deserving graduands shall hold on Friday 13th December, 2024 and Saturday, 14th December, 2024 at the University Convocation Arena.

To this end, all prospective graduands of the 2022/2023 academic session are to make payments for the Convocation online at the University’s website: www.rsu.edu.ng.

The Convocation charges cover for the Brochure, Convocation Gown, Graduation and Alumni fees.

All prospective graduands are expected to take note and comply accordingly.

RSU GOVERNING COUNCIL APPROVES WAIVER OF TUITION FEES FOR PROGRAMMES IN FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE, DEPARTMENT OF MODERN LANGUAGES AND DEPARTMENT OF RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL STUDIES

The Governing Council of the Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt has approved the waiver of the payment of Tuition Fees by prospective students for Programmes in the Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Modern Languages and Department of Religious and Cultural Studies.

The Governing Council has also approved the reduction of the amount payable as Acceptance Fee from N50,000 to N20,000 for the above mentioned programmes as well as the reduction by 60% of the School Fees payable by the students in the affected programmes.

The approval of the waiver/reduction of School Fees and Acceptance Fee is to take effect from the 2024/2025 Academic Session.

RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY GOVERNING COUNCIL APPOINTS THREE NEW PRINCIPAL OFFICERS

The Governing Council of the Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, has at an Emergency Meeting held on Monday, 28th October, 2024 approved the appointment of three new Principal Officers of the University. This followed their successful performance at the interview conducted by the joint Council / Senate Selection Committee. Those appointed are:

1. Mrs. Ibimonia Biobele Sotonye Harry, Registrar. Until her appointment, Mrs. I. B. S. Harry was the Acting Registrar of the University. Mrs. Harry, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Post Graduate Diploma in Education and a Master of Arts degree in Law and Diplomacy. Mrs. Harry is a Fellow, Chartered Institute of Loan and Risk Management of Nigeria; Member, Nigeria Institute of Management and Member, Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators.

2. Dr. Juliet Chinedu Alex-Nmecha, Librarian. Until her appointment, Dr. Juliet Chinedu Alex-Nmecha was a Reader in the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Port Harcourt. Dr. Alex-Nmecha holds a Bachelor of Education in Economics, Master of Library Science, Master of Education in Sociology of Education and a Doctorate degree in Library and Information Science. Her professional affiliations include: Member, Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria; Member, Nigerian Library Association and Fellow, Institute of Information Management, Africa.

3. Dr. Gift Onyinye Eke, Bursar. Dr. Gift O. Eke, a Chartered Accountant and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, a Master of Business Administration in Management, a Master of Science in Accounting and a Doctorate degree in Accounting. He was employed into the services of the University as Accountant I and rose through the ranks to a Deputy Bursar.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nlerum S. Okogbule, DSSRS, on behalf of the Governing Council, has congratulated Mrs. Ibimonia Biobele Sotonye Harry, Dr. Juliet Chinedu Alex-Nmecha and Dr. Gift Onyinye Eke on their well-deserved appointments as Registrar, Librarian and Bursar, respectively.

Their appointments take effect from 28th October, 2024.

PROVISIONAL ADMISSION LIST
FOR 2024/2025 ACADEMIC SESSION

This is to inform all candidates who participated in the 2024/2025 Post-UTME of the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt that the Provisional Admission list of successful candidates on Merit has been released.

Candidates who are offered admission should log into the University Website www.rsu.edu.ng and make e-payment of the Acceptance Fee of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) only by generating a transaction id on the University Website for the fee and proceed to any of the designated Banks to pay using the Pay Direct Bank Branch option or using Interswitch Verve enabled cards.

Thereafter, they are to move for further online clearance before payment of School Fees.

Candidates are to come with their credentials for the Clearance Exercise as follows:

Admission Letter from Jamb;

Original JAMB Result;

Accepted Admission Status from JAMB (Caps);

Original O' level Certificates;

Birth Certificate;

LGA Identification Letter

&

Acceptance Fee Receipt.

Acceptance for Admitted candidates will end on 30th November, 2024.

Candidates who fail to accept their offers before the expiration of the deadline will lose their places permanently!

BREAKING: PDP SUSPEND Ag NATIONAL CHAIRMAN AND NATIONAL SECRETARY OVER ANTI-PARTY ACTIVITIES

*Press Release on the Decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP on the Reported Anti-Party Activity by the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum and National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu*

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has extensively considered the series of complaints raised against the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum and National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu particularly with regard to the letter addressed by them to the Court of Appeal in Appeal No:CA/PH/307/2024 against the Party’s position in the case involving the 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who vacated their seats upon decamping from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NWC condemned this anti-party activity of the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary which is in gross violation of the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and their Oath of Office.

Consequently, the NWC, pursuant to Sections 57, 58 and 59 of the PDP Constitution, has suspended Amb. Illiya Damagum and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as Acting National Chairman and National Secretary of the Party respectively and referred them to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action.

In the meantime, the two officials are suspended from all meetings, activities and programs of the NWC pending the conclusion of investigation by the National Disciplinary Committee."

JUDICIAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO THE ARSON, KILLINGS, AND WANTON DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY AT SOME LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL HEADQUARTERS WHICH OCCURRED ON OR ABOUT MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2024

Pursuant to Section 2(1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Law, Cap 30, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has approved the Setting-up of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the arson, killings, and wanton destruction of property at some Local Government Council Headquarters which occurred on or about Monday, October 7, 2024.

Members of the Commission are:

PRESIDENT TINUBU DECRIES VIOL*ENCE IN RIVERS, DIRECTS POLICE TO PROVIDE SECURITY TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICES

President Bola Tinubu has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara, political leaders and their supporters in Rivers State to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law.

In response to recent ten*sions following last Saturday’s local government council election, the President expressed deep concern over reports of ar*son and expl*osions in the state.

He urged all political actors to de-es*calate the situation and discourage their supporters from engaging in vio*lence or destr*uctive actions.

President Tinubu directed the police to restore and maintain peace, law, and order immediately.

While instructing law enforcement agencies to bring the situation under control, he emphasised the need to ensure the security of public institutions.

President Tinubu said government facilities built with public funds must be safeguarded from vand*alism.

He stressed that self -help has no place in a democratic system, especially after 25 years of continuous democracy.

According to President Tinubu, the judiciary can settle all political disputes, and the outcome of this election should be no exception.

POLICE ORDERS UNSEALING OF LGA SECRETARIATS, WITHDRAWAL OF DEPLOYED PERSONNEL WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

In view of the recent political developments in Rivers State, the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Mustapha hereby convey the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for the immediate withdrawal of all police personnel previously deployed to seal and safeguard the Local Government Secretariats in the state. This decision is in line with the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure neutrality and the smooth functioning of democratic institutions.

Consequently, the IGP has ordered the unsealing of the Local Government Secretariats, which were earlier secured by police personnel. The police will only be redeployed to these locations in the event of any crisis or breakdown of law and order, in which case emergency measures will be swiftly implemented to restore normalcy.

The Rivers State Police Command assures the public of its readiness to maintain peace and order across the state and will continue to act professionally in discharging its duties. We urge all residents and stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding as the situation continues to evolve.
