The administrative headquarters was temporarily located at No. 13/15 Ajoku Street Owerri from where it was finally moved to the Egbu Road location. The operational station was first established at Government Trade Centre, Owerri and later moved to Egbu Road headquarters while the transmitter was installed at Orji. The IBS was essentially an amplitude modulation (AM) station and it transmitted on c

hannel 721 kilohertz in the medium wave band. In March 2008, the IBC left the Egbu Office to its present headquarters at Chief Achike Udenwa Avenue, New Owerri. IBS remained a single channel station until 1984 when the Imo Television Authority (ITV) Channel 59, which was established by Law No. 23 of 1981 and located at New Owerri, was merged with it and both formed the present Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC). The merger was established by edit No. 8 of 1984 with Elder Anyim Udeh as the first Director General. The frequency modulation (FM) Channel transmitting on 94.4 megahertz in the FM wave band was established in 1994 and it became the third channel of the IBC. The FM Channel was later renamed the Orient 94.4 FM. Both the television and the FM Channels transmit on 30-kilowatts capacity transmitters acquired by the immediate past state government under Governor Achike Udenwa. The present State Government of Governor Ikedi Ohakim has improved on what was on ground and has digitized IBC, in line with the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation’s (NBC) directive. The incumbent Head, Interim Management is Mr. Richard Asiegbu. The Corporation has also had fourteen Governing boards. The last was inaugurated 2009 and headed by Nneoma, Chief, Mrs. Felicia Iheaka. The first Director-General of IBS was Engr. Augustine Alaribe, the first board chairman was Dr. Onyike James Onyike the first Head, Interim Management Team is Mr. Richard Asiegbu while Nneoma Felicia Iheaka is the first female Board Chairman.
