Imo State Independent Electoral Commission Owerrri was established by Law NO.14 of 2000 pursuant to section 197 and part II of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria The enabling law empowers the Commission primarily to organize, conduct and supervise all elections and matters pertaining to elections into elective positions provided for in the Local Governme

nt Law or any other Laws enacted by the Imo State House of Assembly, monitor political campaigns and provide rules and regulations which govern the election,ensure that all Electoral Commissioners, Electoral and Returning Officers subscribe to the oath of office as prescribe by law and also render such as may be necessary to the Independent National Election Commission on the compilation of the voters register in so far as that register is applicable to Local Government Elections in the State.
