The Congo River is a major river in central Africa, the second-longest river in Africa (after the Nile) and the deepest river in the world. The river is also sometimes referred to as the Zaire River, especially in its lower course.

The Congo River begins in the highlands of northeastern Zambia and flows for over 4,700 km (2,920 miles) through the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), eventually emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. It is also the world's largest river in terms of discharge, or the volume of water it carries.

Prince Kanu explained that the programme will focus on capacity building and business support with particular emphasis on equipping participants with essential information technology skills for future endeavours.

According to him "Call for applications for the programme will soon Commence, and of course, you all know that this is pointed towards building capacity for Abians in different areas of endeavor, including SMES, stand alone IT -experts"

"The overriding interest of the state government is to ensure that as many people as possible acquire IT-skills that will help them in the future".

Prince Kanu also informed the media that the Otti led-government has sponsored the participation of 26 individuals in Cyber security Certification examinations, while noting that the sponsorship was provided through the state Ministry of SME and digital economy.

The information Commissioner added that the move was geared towards enhancing Cyber Security expertise and fortified digital infrastructure within the state.

"This initiative is made to substantially increase the number of Cyber security expertise in the state".

"Of course we know that this is the way to go in this era of technology and artificial intelligence.

"You have to have people who are good in Cyber security so that they can help the government maintain security generally in the state".

He also disclosed that the state Executive Council has approved the "Dig Once policy" through the establishment of the Dig Once policy implementation Council headed by the Deputy Governor of the state, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu.

He explained that the policy was aimed at facilitating internet pe*******on and fast internet access on our highways and in the rural areas, adding that the policy is in line with the present administration's well thought out agenda in information technology development, which is a serious enabler of business.

Prince Kanu further disclosed that the state government in a joint effort with the Federal Ministry of communication, innovation and digital economy has committed to establishing 6 -mini digital hubs with free internet access across the 3 zones of the state, including Arochukwu, Umunneochi, Ikwuano, Isialangwa south, Ukwa East and Ugwunagbo.

He noted that though, not every part of the state would benefit from the initiative, the internet hubs to be set up in 6 LGAS of the state by the federal Ministry of Digital Economy and collaboration with the state would provide Abians a functional hub to receive internet training and digital Services.

Answering questions from newsmen, the Special Adviser to the Governor on media and publicity Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma clarified the media on the real situation at the People's road Aba which was rumored to have been washed off by flood.

Mr. Ekeoma emphatically stated that the road in question is under construction, and was merely hit by massive flood, and challenged the media to carry out independent investigation on the road.

The Media Adviser added that all the roads built so far by the present government are solid and have all the components to stand the test of time, and maintained that every completed road project passes through a rigorous process of certification before commissiong, in line with the template and directive of Governor Alex Otti.

THE START UP CAPITAL THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING, FOR STANEL GROUP CEO.

Chairman and founder of COSCHARIS Group, Dr Cosmos Maduka has revealed how he empowered Dr Stanley Uzochukwu, Chairman and owner of Stanel Group with a business start-up capital of One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N150,000,000) and made him one of Nigerian youngest billionaire.

Dr. Maduka said that, at first, he mistook Uzochukwu for a 419 from the way he was following him. But he said what confused him more was the fact that each time they met, Uzochukwu always tried to give him money instead of asking for money.

With the permission of Dr Stanley Uzochukwu, Maduka narrated how he became a friend with Uzochukwu, a boy that could be his fifth son.

In his words, COSCHARIS Boss said, “The young man we are all here for or celebrating his impact on youths development today could be my fifth son if I had a child every two years. But I am going to tell you a story of how Stanley came to me.

“There was a day I went to the Villa and I saw this young man. This boy was just coming close to me. I paused and said to myself; who is this boy? Is he not a 419? I avoided him like a plague but he kept coming very close to me.

“Each time we meet, he would like to give me money. That act made me to be afraid of him. Why should this young man give me money?

“One day I was coming down from NICON Mega Hotel, Stanley saw me and knelt down before me and said, “Please Sir, just lay hand on me and say a word of prayer”. I told him, Stanley, get up let us go inside but he said no. He said, “Do it here”. I couldn’t help but to lay my hands on him and said, Lord, whatever virtue that is in me that this young man desires, grant it unto him.

“All of a sudden, while I was laying hands on him, I felt his hand in my pocket. I grabbed his hand because I felt he wanted to steal my money! But behold, Stanley stocked fifty thousand naira (N50,000) in my pocket. As I entered my car going to the airport, my head was pilling, thinking; where is this boy coming from? Why should he give me money? I was thinking about all of these but it wasn’t long that a boy that is about my fifth son became my friend.

“Stanley walked himself up to me. He was not coming to me to take money. He was not disturbing me financially and I became his friend and started talking to him.

“One day, I invited him to Lagos. I took him round Lagos to show him a few of my investments to humble him. I took him to about eight or nine different corporations I have in Lagos. In the end, I said to him, when you go back, you will know that I am not a small man you should be giving money.

“One day, Stanley called me and said that he wanted my favour to introduce him to First Bank if the bank could do business with him. I then asked him if he had an account with the bank and he said yes and I then asked him to send me his statement of account to see his inflow.

“He didn’t ask me for money. But when I saw his statement of account, I surprised him! I transferred One Hundred and Fifty Million (N150,000,000) to his account. I don’t need to introduce him to the bank. I told him to do whatever he wanted to do with the money and return it to me without interest but I warned him to be careful. There was no agreement between us but he faithfully returned the money in full at once after a year. We didn’t go to court. This was several years ago.

“We are not here to advertise Stanley but I feel very proud that he (Stanley) is a billionaire today and I share in his success because I impacted his life.”

At the end of the day, good people are good people, fraudsters are fraudsters.
A good name is truly better than riches.

24/03/2024

Every year, the father of Africapatilism, Tony Elumelu, gives out $5 million (9 billion naira) of his money to deserving 1,000 entrepreneurs from the selected applicants from the 53 African countries.

He has been doing this for the past 10 years, so it means he has given out $50 million of his wealth to 10,000 African entrepreneurs in the past 10 years, and he plans to give out another $50 million in the next 10 years, making it $100 million in total.

Tony is not yet a dollar billionaire like Aliko Dangote, but he is giving out that much because he is a beneficiary of luck, and he wants the next generation of entrepreneurs to have a head start in starting their lives and businesses.

And this is Tony’s personal story.

A year later, after earning his Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Lagos, he applied to join a new generation bank, Allstates Trust Bank.
The bank’s one-page newspaper advertisement demanded a minimum 2:1 degree, but he applied regardless, submitting a cover letter and filling out an application with my 2:2-Economics degree.

By a stroke of luck, his application was reviewed by the Chairman/CEO, a painstaking man who carefully read the cover letter and was drawn to the confidence in his words. “I know I may not have met the qualifying criteria for the advertised roles, but I am intelligent, driven, and ambitious, and I will make the bank proud. My 2:2 degree does not demonstrate the full extent of my intelligence and ability, and I know I can do so much more.” He read those words and took a chance on young Tony.

Though "unqualified," he decided to throw a lifeline and an opportunity at Tony Elumelu.

A long series of interviews and even more tests followed his invitation to join the shortlist. At the end of a very rigorous process, he received good news: he had a place as an entry-level analyst. Even now, he wonders: What if the founder had not personally gone through the application? What if they rejected my application from the start? What if I never got the opportunity to work at Allstates Trust Bank?

Someone took a chance on him, and decades later, he is paying it forward with institutionalising luck, so young people who have dreams but no capital can have a fair chance to compete and live their dreams.

I have seen how impactful this $5,000 could be for a struggling young person.

Before applying for Tony Elumelu's $5,000 grant and subsequent selection, my friend, Christian Chukwu, who was a freelance photographer, had no idea where the next meal would come from.

Tired of suffering and the uncertainty that comes with being a freelancer in this part of the world, he applied for Tony Elumelu's $5,000 grant, and luckily for him, he was selected.

With the $5,000 grant from Elumelu, he now has a flourishing modern photo studio in Port Harcourt, and this came with stability in his finances and income.

He has gone on to marry and start his family, living on to his greatest potential, and this is just day 1 for him.

This is why what Tony Elumelu is doing is important.

Tony could have used this money to buy a private beach house in Chatteau or a newer private jet, or leave it behind for his kids to enjoy when he is no more, but he cares about the impact on the next generation, and for him, that is the only way to pay it forward: to give back to a society that has been good to him.

$5,000 is a lot of money in today’s Nigeria; we are talking 9 million naira in seed capital for an entrepreneur to start his or her business and kick off what is going to be potential—a life well lived.

And these entrepreneurs go ahead to create more jobs in the eco system and making it possible for thousands of families in Africa to feed and pay their bills.

This is one reason why history will forever be kind to Tony Elumelu

Tony’s Igbo name is Onyemachi (who knows tomorrow) and with $5,000 in the bank account, a beneficiary of Tony Elumelu’s largess is at least sure of tomorrow.

Happy 61st birthday, Tony Onyemachi Elumelu.

Dappa, said the facility would provide jobs and create enormous ancillary businesses within the oil and gas eco-system for the country’s teeming population and contribute positively to the economic transformation of the host community and Nigeria at large.
According to her, the approval came, “just a few days ago, but as a testament to our readiness and commitment to this project, we are laying the foundation today.”

Dappa explained: “In line with federal government gas infrastructure development plan, we have decided to embark on this audacious project of about $500 million project which includes 20,000MT gas storage here in Energy city, over 200 gas refilling outlets, over 2000 retail gas exchange outlet, bulk distribution trucks for LPG transportation and a dedicated vessel for coastal operations.”

This has helped the company to break new grounds and attain greater heights.

“These are the reasons why Masters Energy has proposed to build and operate a gas storage capacity of 20,000MT to receive and load out LPG( 28,000 CBM) and 12,000 CBM Propane.”

Dappa noted that the uniqueness of the project was that Masters Energy would be the first to go into combine household and industrial gas usage infrastructure. Also to be included in this terminal when completed is a fully automatic bottle filling machine (carousel) with a 1,200 bottling capacity per hour, she revealed. “At the completion of this project, it will provide job and create enormous ancillary businesses within the oil and gas eco-system for our teeming population and contribute positively to the economic transformation of the host community and Nigeria at large.

Rivers Governor Fubara Breaks Silence following Recent Political Tension in the State

Following the recent political tension in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has finally spoken out, vowing to continue protecting the interests of people in the state.

In a video clip posted on his verified X handle (formerly Twitter), the governor expressed his gratitude to the people of Rivers State. He pledged to run an inclusive government that upholds the principles of justice and fairness for all, regardless of class or position.

This statement comes against the backdrop of political tension in the state. This has seen nine members of Governor Fubara’s cabinet resign and the defection of 27 members of the state assembly from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) within the week.

Following the defection of the lawmakers, the state government ordered the demolition of the Assembly Complex. The government cited the need to rebuild a suitable structure following an “arson attack” that occurred on October 29, 2023.

The defecting lawmakers are reportedly being backed by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and immediate-past governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.

The governor and the minister of the FCT are reportedly in a battle over the control of the state’s political structure.

NSCDC officer in viral ‘My Oga at the Top’ video promoted to Deputy Commandant General

Shem Obafaiye, formerly known for his viral “My Oga at the Top” interview moment, has been promoted to Deputy Commandant-General within the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The journey to this prestigious rank traces back to a memorable interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily program, where Obafaiye, then serving as the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, found himself at the epicentre of a nationwide buzz.

During the interview, when probed about the official NSCDC website, his unexpected response swiftly caught the attention of Nigerians. When asked to provide the website, Obafaiye stumbled, stating, “I cannot categorically tell you one now,” and further added, “My Oga at the top say is another one, and the one we are going to make use of will be made known by my Oga at the top.”

The amusing yet puzzling reply quickly gained traction across social media platforms, spawning countless memes and jokes.

However, beyond the viral sensation, Obafaiye’s dedication and service within the NSCDC evidently caught the attention of higher-ups.

Through his steadfast commitment and hard work, he has steadily risen through the ranks, culminating in his recent promotion to Deputy Commandant-General.

Meanwhile, the “My Oga at the Top” saga remains a memorable moment in Nigeria’s collective memory.

Congratulations sir.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveils the first set of the newly acquired electric buses in Lagos State.

The governor made this known on Sunday; while announcing the first set of electric buses in the Lagos Mass Transit Master Plan as part of her increased effort to modernize every sector of Lagos.
Thanks to our partnership with , Lagosians can expect a cleaner and greener public transportation system.

With the ability to travel 280km at full charge, taking into account our unique travel times in Lagos, our electric buses are a game-changer. With an average daily usage of 200km by existing BRTs, there is no need to fear that the buses can stop while in transit.

Our new electric buses will not only reduce carbon emissions but will also increase efficiency. This means that Lagosians can say goodbye to high fuel costs and hello to cost-efficient transportation.

We shall be running a pilot scheme over the next few months to gather sufficient data required to analyse the operational efficiencies relative to the current BRT buses to further improve our public transport service.

This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to creating a sustainable future for Lagos.

We understand the need for charging stations to power our electric buses, which is why we are partnering with Oando Clean Energy Limited to strategically place Universal Chargers at public places like malls and gas stations. We also plan to establish an Assembly Plant for Electric Buses in the near future.

This is just the beginning of our efforts to transform Lagos into an even smarter city as we continue to increase our fleet of electric vehicles, further modernizing the Lagos transportation system.

Join us in embracing the future of mobility in Lagos.

23/03/2023

MY ACCEPTANCE SPEECH ON THE OCCASION OF MY DECLARATION AS GOVERNOR ELECT OF ABIA STATE.

My fellow Abians, it gives me great pleasure this evening to address you, following the final announcement of the results of the gubernatorial elections conducted across the state last Saturday, March 18, 2023.

With deep humility and a profound sense of responsibility, I wholeheartedly accept your mandate to be your chief servant for the next 4 years.

Before I go on, I must first dedicate this victory to God the Father Almighty, who makes everything beautiful in His own time. I also dedicate it to the millions of Abia citizens who have been the unfortunate victims of bad governance these past decades. As I acknowledge this victory, I am fully conscious of the huge expectations of millions of the good people of Abia, who have been denied the dividends of democracy and good governance for such a long time. I want to sincerely thank every Abian and non-indigene alike who participated in this election. As you are all aware, this was my third attempt at contesting for this office, in my quest to implement my long-held vision of rebuilding Abia state as truly God’s own state. At this third attempt, it pleased God to give us victory. In the words of one Labour Party stalwart, ‘The Siege Is Over’! With our votes and the collective will of the people, we have “broken the gates of hell and cast its bars of iron asunder”. As recorded in the holy book, the kingdom of hell shall not prevail against us.

I would like to quickly compliment my colleagues in the just-concluded elections, Chief Sir Okechukwu Ahiwe, Engr Enyinnaya Nwafor, High Chief Ikechi Emenike, Prof Gregory Ibe, and a host of other equally qualified governorship candidates. It has been a hard-fought contest and each of you gave his or her best in the quest to serve our beloved State. There is no doubt that all of us have very robust ideas as to how to move our dear State forward. I want to assure you that your ideas and dreams that are consistent with building a virile Abia state shall come to fruition under my watch. I therefore invite all of you to join hands with our administration in order to serve Abians who have been victims of several years of
maladministration and state capture. I have no doubt that you will be available to use the same energy and intellect, to help rebuild our state and develop our people. Of particular mention are the Candidates that have publicly conceded defeat and congratulated us, even when the battle of Obingwa fictitious votes was still raging. These include Prof. Greg Ibe, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Chief Bond Ohuche, Chief Chibuike Jonas, amongst others. It is well with all of you.

I want to thank the young and energetic Deputy Governor-elect, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu who is going to be carrying the burden of governance with me. I also want to thank my Campaign team led by Hon. Acho Obioma and various support and volunteers groups who worked tirelessly to make today possible. You are simply the best hands any candidate can find! Your creative ideas and dedication to our common goal were unprecedented.

I must not fail to thank the leadership and members of Labour Party, who worked very hard to ensure that this day would come. I thank all those who worked with me through moments of despair and hope, through tears, sweat and blood, through betrayals, denials and dangers untold. It is said that the harder the struggle, the sweeter the victory. Please savour the sweetness of your hard work and firm belief.

I must give special thanks to my best friend, my confidant, my number one fan, my heartbeat, the wife of my youth, the mother of my children, and the First Lady in waiting, of Abia state, Lady Priscilla Chidinma Otti (Onugu Abia). I must thank her for living up to the challenges of being the wife of someone committed to these ideals, with equanimity and elegance. Unfortunately the work has only just begun but now you must support me, just like you have done in the past 30 years of our marriage, to work for the people of Abia. Special thanks to our children, Dr. Ezinwa, Engnr Alex Jr and Chinweotuto for being there and supporting
Daddy without reservation.

I must pause and remember some of those who have left us in the course of this journey. Although they are no longer here with us, I am sure that where ever they are now, they will be smiling with satisfaction that finally, we have triumphed over the forces that have held the State captive for so long. Some of the more notable ones among them are Prince Otisi Kalu, Abbott, Pastor Nnanna Ngwu, who both served as Chairmen for this campaign at different times. I must also remember my friend from Anambra State, Mr Eze Alomefuna, Rico, who worked tirelessly to help end the dynasty of incompetence in Abia state. Also to be
remembered are Prince D**e O. D**e and Dr. Mike Nwachukwu who lost their lives within the period of this struggle. Worthy of mention is the less than two year old little Adanna who tragically lost her life in 2015, when in the frenzy and excitement of our electoral victory, her father, Mr. Pius Oha accidentally ran over her in a car. In spite of the exigency of time, please join me in observing a minute’s silence in honour of these fallen heroes.

Indeed, I see this victory as a call to service. Even as I come out of a bruising and long drawn out campaign, I know that this is just the beginning of the journey. There is a lot of work to be done and we must get all hands on deck to ensure that we take back our state and bring the much sought-after dividends of democracy.

You voted us to serve you and not to be served. You voted us to alleviate your sufferings and not to compound and multiply them. This is a service that comes with unusually high sense of devotion and commitment given our checkered history as a people. During my electioneering campaign, I traversed all nooks and crannies of Abia state, and that enabled me to have first-hand assessment of the needs and expectations of Abians. These are the basic things expected by the people for a responsible government to provide in order to unleash the potential inherent in the typically hardworking Abians. Based on my findings and those of my team members, it dawned on us that an immediate hands-on approach is required to hit the ground running and to ensure that we alleviate the sufferings of all Abians, I promised you that I will serve you as the Governor of all Abians and all citizens living in Abia, irrespective of clan, religious persuasion or political leaning. I see my mandate as cutting across all strata of our people and I once more promise to use the resources accruing to all Abians for the benefit of all Abians and the residents. I will like to assure us that we hold no bitterness against anyone and will not go on any revenge mission against anyone. If in the process of getting here, we have wronged anyone, kindly find a space in your heart to forgive. We have equally forgiven anyone that wronged us. This will be a government that would unite everyone in this state as we are all brothers and sisters.

I want to salute the industry and resourcefulness of all Abians, the religious and traditional institutions, the civil servants, working class, the pensioners, the Business community, the physically challenged members of our society and indeed everyone that wishes Abia well. There shall be no discrimination whatsoever in the amenities that each person is able to access in our government. I made a firm promise to all civil servants and pensioners owed salaries, pensions and emoluments that an immediate payment plan would be put in place to ensure that this gets the priority it deserves.

I am very much aware and prepared to deal with the issues of infrastructural decay which have continued to militate against our growth and development as a state. This will be tackled head-on. There is no doubt that given the deplorable state of our infrastructure, roads, schools and health systems, Abians are deservedly impatient to have these issues addressed as quickly as possible. I assure you that these areas will receive the priority attention of our government.

Nevertheless, I caution that we all will need to put in our best and row together in one direction. There is no magic wand that can fix all the rot and decay noticed in virtually all segments of the system since the past years. For us to have sustainable development, it would require very painstaking and elaborate layout of master plans to enable us tackle the menace of flooding and re-engineer our cities especially Aba, Umuahia and other cities that would be developed in order to support our urban renewal projects. We therefore plead for patience and understanding as we first tackle the immediate challenges and work on the major ones. The approach of our government will revolve around crafting policies that will enable our government tap the creative energies of every Abian. We remain resolute in our drive to eliminate poverty and create sustainable wealth for our people.

Once again, thank you for electing me and my Deputy to serve you for the next 4 years. We trust God for His enablement to offer our services to Abians in such a way that we would not disappoint you. We shall implement our manifesto which is a revered pact between our administration and the good people of Abia state.

My dearly beloved Abians, as I conclude this address, I want to reassure you that we are going to run an open, transparent and accountable government devoid of waste and profligacy. Our doors will remain wide open and our channels of communication will remain unfettered so that your worthy contributions and suggestions will be a guiding light as we together navigate the thorny paths of rebuilding the state and transforming same for the benefit of all.

We deeply cherish you all and will do our best to ensure that the trust reposed in us is not in vain.

Thank you all and God bless Abia State!

God bless Nigeria!!

Dr. Alex Chioma Otti OFR,
