HOUSE ADOPTS MOTIONS AGAINST DEHUMANIZATION OF SOUTH EAST TRAVELLERS, MOVED BY HON. ATTORNEY DR. Matthew Nwogu
The Member Representing Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency Hon. Attorney Dr Matthew Nwogu has presented a strong motion to end incessant dehumanization and harassment of road travellers by Security Agents in South East.
Alarmed at the brazen manner in which travellers within the Southeast are forcefully moved out from their Cars/Vehicles by Security Agents and ordered to walk some kilometers with their - hands raised above their heads thus dehumanizing and portraying them as common criminals or prisoners, creating the feeling of discontentment, social unrest and creating the feeling of a conquered territory.
Attorney Dr Matthew Nwogu then moved the motion on incessant dehumanization and harassment of road travellers by Security Agents in South East.
The Legal luminary turned Legislator urges the Inspector General of Police (IG) to identify, discipline and call to order the Police Officers perpetuating these inhuman and degrading treatments on the road travellers along Southeast Geopolitical Zone to desist from such act of unprofessional conduct and to carry out their duties professionally.
He also urge the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to call on the Military personnel manning roadblocks within the Southeast Geopolitical Zone to carry out their duties professionally and stop the incessant harassment of law-abiding citizenry in the South East and set up an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the forceful collection of #500, 000 by some Police Officers on the 8th July 2023 from travellers along Owerri -Onitsha express road using Monipoint POS.
In response the Speaker of House of Representative Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas (Phd) applauded Hon. Attorney Dr Matthew Nwogu for a vibrant motion and called for the adoption of the motion and refered the motion to the Committee on Police Affairs and human Rights, National Security and Intelligence
