Victim in Ekweremadu organ trafficking case scared to return to Nigeria, appeals to stay in UK
David Nwamini, the would-be kidney donor in the organ trafficking case that sent Senator Ike Ekweremadu to jail, has said he feared for his safety in Nigeria and wants to remain and work in the UK.
He made this know in court during the sentencing of Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, and the doctor-middleman, Obinna Obeta, who were all found guilty of conspiring to arrange the travel of a young man to the UK to exploit him for his body part.
Recall that Ekweremadus’ daughter, Sonia, has a severe kidney disease, and it was for her the donor was sourced and brought to the UK.
According to David, he was approached with an opportunity to work in the UK, which he had always dreamed of but never thought would happen.
“He (Dr Obina Obeta) did not tell me he brought me here for this reason. He did not tell me anything about this. I would have not agreed to any of this. My body is not for sale,” he said.
David also expressed concern about his safety in Nigeria, saying that “those people can do anything”. He said that he did not want to claim compensation from the “bad people” as it would be “cursed and bad luck”.
He continued, "My plan now is to work and to get an education and to play football.”
David further disclosed that someone visited his father in Nigeria and asked him to drop the case|

I’ll follow Yar’Adua’s footsteps – Tinubu Tell Nigerians
President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to the late President Umar Musa Yar'Adua for his commitment to democracy and good governance, promising to follow in his footsteps.
Tinubu praised Yar'Adua's purposeful life and highlighted his fond memories of honesty, steadfastness, patriotism, and excellence in public service.
In a memorial tribute signed by Tinubu, he stated that May 5, 2010, is still a day that hurts, as the country lost a great leader. Tinubu believes that Nigeria needs leaders like Yar'Adua, who showcased exceptional sense of propriety and selfless service to the country.
He further expressed his determination to follow in the footsteps of Yar'Adua and other great leaders who have contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria. And that he is committed to providing good governance and ensuring that the country thrives under his leadership.
As the president-elect prepares to take the reins of leadership on May 29, he promised to uphold the values of honesty, patriotism, and selfless service to the country.

Tinubu to Wike: I Owe You Nothing!
In today's visit to Rivers State, the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, rejected a request made by Governor Nyesom Wike for a refund for the construction of some federal roads in the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Rumuokwuta-Rumuola Flyover in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Wike had suggested that the projects undertaken by the state ought to be done by the Federal Government.
However, Tinubu rejected the request, stating that the roads belonged to the state and that he owed Wike nothing.
"You can't chuckle at me and make a demand," Tinubu said. "You are the one living on this road. I commend your effort. You have to lobby me to collect it."
Wike had argued that the state had to amend its procurement law to enable it to source funds and complete the various flyover projects in record time.
He had suggested that the Federal Government should refund the state for the projects since they were federal roads.
The President-elect's response has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some have commended him for standing up to the governor, others have criticized him for being insensitive to the plight of the people of Rivers State.

Court Orders Zenith Bank to Pay N3 Billion in Dam@ges for Illegal Account Restriction
In a landmark ruling, Zenith Bank PLC has been ordered to pay a total of N3 billion in dam@ges to customers whose accounts were illegally restricted by the bank. The Lagos High Court sitting at Court 44, Commercial division, Osborne Foreshore, Phase 2 Court House handed down the ruling on Wednesday.
The court awarded the sum of N2 billion against the bank in favour of Tsami Babi Nig. Ltd, Amsamay Ltd and M A.Y Fine Fragrance for the illegal restriction placed on their accounts domiciled in the bank. Justice (Dr.) Rasul Oriyomi Olukolu declared that the restriction placed on the accounts was illega! and unlawful, prior to a subsisting court order. The court also ordered that the restriction be removed, since the court order dated 16th November 2022 on the said accounts had expired|

UK Court Sentences Ekweremadu To 10 Years Imprisonment
Today the 5th day of May 2023, Ekweremadu has been sentenced to 9 years and 8 months in prison, his wife to 4 years 6 months while the medical doctor who acted as a ‘middleman’ in the plot, Dr Obinna Obeta, was sentenced to 10 years and his medical licence was also suspended.
Former Nigeria Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, and the doctor involved have been sentenced to prison in the UK for their involvement in a plot to harvest a man's kidney for Ekweremadu's sick daughter.
This judgement is the first-of-its-kind verdict under the Modern Slavery Act 2015|

Daughter of former deputy senate president expresses guilt over her parents' conviction for organ trafficking
Sonia, the daughter of former Nigerian deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu, has expressed her guilt over the conviction of her parents for organ trafficking.
Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and a doctor named Obinna Obeta were found guilty of conspiring to bring a 21-year-old Nigerian man to London to exploit him for his kidney.
The young man was falsely presented as Sonia’s cousin in an attempt to secure a private procedure at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
While Sonia was not convicted, she expressed her guilt for the situation and her belief that her parents were only looking for a solution to her kidney disorder, Nephrotic syndrome.

“Representing our great country for a decade has been one of the greatest honours of my life.
Each time I wore this special blue jersey, I felt immense pride. The duty to give everything, to play with my heart and to win every time we entered the field. I have been thinking about it for several months and decided that it was the right time for me to retire from international football.

Davido Returns To Instagram, Deletes Posts, Unfollows Accounts
Singer, Davido, briefly returned to his Instagram page a few days after the death of his son, Ifeanyi on October 31.
Checks on his Instagram page showed that he deleted all his pinned posts, including the one announcing his first fashion collection with sportswear giant; PUMA. The collection which features his signature quote, 'We Rise By Lifting Others.'
He also deleted the post announcing his upcoming one-day musical concert scheduled to take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia on November 18.
Davido unfollowed a few accounts as the number of his following dropped from 1,680 to 1,678 as of the time of filing this report.
The report of the autopsy done on Ifeanyi revealed that he drowned|
