Nigerian Army Commander Who Led Several Operations Against Boko Haram Allegedly Commits Su***de 3 Days To Court-Martial Verdict

According to Daily Trust, the senior military officer killed himself less than 72 hours before the verdict of a court-martial trying him for alleged military infractions during the war against the terrorists.Aformer Battalion Commanding Officer who led the fight against Boko Haram in Northeastern Nigeria, Major U.J. Undianyede, is said to have committed su***de.

According to Daily Trust, the senior military officer killed himself less than 72 hours before the verdict of a court-martial trying him for alleged military infractions during the war against the terrorists.

He was said to have killed himself on Monday, on the premises of the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna, with his service pistol.

“I think he killed himself because of the judgment of the court-martial which has been fixed for tomorrow (today, May 19),” the source said.

“In prosecuting the war, the Major with some of his colleagues allegedly committed some infractions for which he was being tried at the 1 Division in Kaduna.”

The offences listed against the deceased officer by the court-martial in the 1 Division were misappropriation of funds, abandonment of military post, insubordination, and desertion, among others.

Another source attributed his death to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), noting that he had been in the North East for some time, battling Boko Haram terrorists.

The Major, a Course 55 Regular Officer and other members of his class, were said to be due for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel this September.

When contacted, the spokesman for the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, said that he had not been briefed.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the NDA, Major Bashir Jajira, dismissed the report, saying no officer of the academy was involved in su***de.

“No personnel of the academy was involved in su***de as reported, and in fact, our cadets are presently in Kachia for combat shooting training, they are not in the academy. So, no such training took place,” he said.

JUST IN: Kumuyi cancels Aba crusade after IPOB’s warning

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has cancelled his planned crusade in Aba, Abia State, The PUNCH has learnt.

It was gathered that Kumuyi cancelled the crusade due to security concerns in the South-East geopolitical zone.

The crusade was scheduled to hold in Aba from May 24 to May 29, 2022 but the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra told the 80-year-old cleric not to go ahead with the crusade.

An official of the Global Crusade With Kumuyi confirmed the cancellation of the Aba crusade in a telephone chat with The PUNCH on Saturday, and noted that a new venue would be announced for the crusade.

Also, the Chairman of the crusade’s organising team, Pastor James Akpofure, corroborated the development in a statement on Saturday,

“As there are currently some security challenges at the intended alpha location (Aba, Abia State, Nigeria), the Global Crusade Convener, Pastor (Dr) W.F. Kumuyi commiserates with our people in Abia State and will be praying along for God’s Divine Intervention,” Akpofure said.

Earlier on Thursday, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, had asked Kumuyi to consider the insecurity in the South East and not proceed with the crusade.

“Let him (Kumuyi) and the organisers of the crusade make sure that nothing happens. The security of this region is not good because of political and criminal activities. We, therefore, advise him to stop this crusade for security reasons.

“IPOB will not allow anyone to die because of this crusade scheduled to hold in Aba. The probability of criminals operating as unknown gunmen infiltrating the crusade is high and they will blame it on IPOB,” Powerful had said in a statement.

The Christian Association of Nigeria had backed Kumuyi and urged IPOB to allow the holiness preacher proceed with his crusade.

However, the octogenarian heeded IPOB’s warning and cancelled the Aba crusade on Saturday.

In his statement titled, ‘Celebrating One Year of Global Evangelisation (Global Crusade with Kumuyi)’, Akpofure said Kumuyi would keep praying for God’s divine intervention for the insecurity bedevilling the South-East geopolitical zone.

The South-East zone has recorded massive killings and deadly attacks by gunmen in the past one year. Hundreds of civilians, politicians and security agents have been gruesomely murdered by rampaging marauders parading themselves as ‘unknown gunmen’. Also, government facilities including local government secretariats, police stations and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission have been burnt by the vicious criminals. Punch

CATHOLIC PRIEST KIDNAPPED IN JOS.

Earlier today, I received the shocking news that Rev. Fr. Anthony Agu. Cmf., the Parish Priest of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish in Pankshi Jos, Plateau State has been kidnapped by yet to be identified armed men.

The armed men were said to have forcelly gained entrance into his residence within the Parish in the night and took him away with them.

The news has left me shattered for obvious reasons. Fr. Agu (as we all called him) was the officiating priest during my wedding at St. Peter's Catholic Parish, Garrki, Enugu State where he was the Parish Priest then.
When my first child was sick and hospitalised for several days at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, Fr. Agu was there for my family all through the trying period.
Before his posting to Jos, he made it a point to visit my home anytime he came for a function in Owerri.

It is disheartening to learn that this good natured, humane, gentleman priest has become the latest victim of the growing insecurity in our country.

I join thousands of his parishioners and, indeed the entire Christian community to pray for the safe return of Fada even as we appeal to his captors to please release him unhurt.

Mazi Ikenga......
