Ohafia Electricity Report:
On Friday the 7th of June 2024, I was in Umuahia on for our follow up and reconciliation meeting. Remember that the public petition committee hearing in the hoise of Representatives, the committee ruled that the Ohafia LGA and EEDC carry out a financial record reconciliation to ascertain the actual dept if any owed while also demanding that power be restored until a final agreement is reached on this issue. The initial reconciliation session held on 15th of May and a follow up session agreed for 7th of June to allow both parties to analyse the data.
In attendance at the meeting:
Abiriba - Chief Nwaka Inem (SA to the Governor ) and Mr Dimgba Ezikpe
Nkporo - Mr Mkpa Oju Ụka ( Deputy Mayor Ohafia LGA)
Ohafia - Mr Ivan Anya and Mr Richard Agwụ (sec OIU)
Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) as regulators of the process also send a representatives to overseas the process.
On arrive of EEDC office on 7th of June,we were informed that the EEDC had an internal emergency and the management staff were unable to attend the meeting and rescheduled for the following week.
EEDC provided and updated on their action points from the last meeting in writing to me and they are as follows.
Following the fallout of our last meeting with the ohafia community and part of the resolution to restore supply to the 9 substations and equally install DSS meters for better energy accountabilities, we have not been able to restore supply to Ohafia 7.5mva injection substation which in turn will be able to restore to Asaga and Ohafia Barracks 11kv feeders. The reason for this is because the source Arochukwu 33kv has been inter tripped due to Overflow of Itu river Banks. However the various DSS meters for 9 transformer have been deployed, our meter Engineer will start installations from next week.
Later that evening I held a national press briefing where as part of the discussion I outlined my displeasure with EEDC and questioned the availability of allowing incompetent distribution companies continue to operate. Suffice to say I will continue to follow this process and will not repent until the issue is fully and finally resolved.
