COMMUNIQUE OF THE ADO-ODO/OTA LOCAL GOVERNMENT VIRTUAL TOWN HALL MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY, 24TH OCTOBER, 2020
The Movement after staging a five-days non-violent protest organized a Virtual Townhall meeting on October 24, 2020 on the Zoom platform.
The meeting was attended by Residents of Ado-odo/Ota Local Government, Traditional Rulers led by Oba Prof. Adeyemi Obalanlege (Olota of Ota), Industrialists, Professional Bodies, Non-Governmental Organizations, International Observers, the Hon. Commissioner of Works; Engr. Ade Akinsanya and Government officials of Ado-odo/Ota Local Government extraction including Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele (the Deputy Governor of Ogun State), Engr. Tunji Akinosi (Hon. Commissioner for Forestry), Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele (House of Reps member), Hon. Sherif Yusuf (Majority Leader, Ogun State House of Assembly), Hon. Lamidi Musefiu (Deputy Minority Leader, Ogun State House of Assembly), Mr. Kola Salako (Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Office of the Deputy Governor), Alh. Wasiu Lawal FCA (Transition Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government).
The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele joined other Government officials and Non-Government Organisation representatives to commend the organisers of the protest for conducting a violent-free protest for five consecutive days.
Participants at the Virtual Townhall meeting agreed as follows:
It was a good decision by the organizers of the protests to suspend the protest whose spillover effects would have caused chaos and riotous situations in other towns and cities of Ota and it’s environs.
Going forward, the people of Ado-odo/Ota Local Government will not tolerate the bad and deplorable Federal roads with particular mention of the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Express Road, Ota-Idiroko (ECOWAS) Road and Atan-Agbara Road which all require total repairs.
Given the paucity of funds and the high demand of road repairs in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, the State Government is encouraged to embrace Public Private Partnership arrangements in fixing our roads in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The leadership of Movement as well as the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Civil Society Road Monitoring Committee are to liaise with relevant Stakeholders including the Private Sector and the Civil Society to work out a template for Public Private Partnership with the sole objective of fixing the roads in Ado-odo/Ota Local Government as soon as possible.
That the 1.3KM Joju Road which was just awarded for rreconstruction is grossly inadequate and insignificant considering the enormous deplorable state of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Roads and the level of industrialization of the Local Government. However, the construction would also include drainage and a good depth such that the pressure of usage would allow the road to stand the test of time.
That Senator Tolu Odebiyi, the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District should publicly apologise to the people of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government for disregarding the town Hall meeting despite extending invitation to him like other representatives of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government. His absence and persistent refusal to relate with the people of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government from time to time since his election into the National Assembly is highly unacceptable and inappropriate.
That all our elected representatives at the State and National Assembly should henceforth operate functional/accessible offices and conduct regular town hall meetings for effective and efficient citizens engagement.
