LAUTECH LECTURERS REBUFF MAKINDE’S CALL TO PULL OUT OF ASUU STRIKE.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso chapter, has rebuffed the call by Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde to pull out of national strike of the association in all public universities, saying the industrial action was on directive of national body of the association.

This was outcome of the emergency meeting held on Tuesday at 250LT of the institution.

In a chat with BCOS correspondent, Aderemi Akanmu after the meeting, the ASUU Chairman of the institution, Prof. Abiodun Olaniran said classrooms would remain shut until the strike is called off by national body, adding that pulling out from the ongoing ASUU national strike needs consultations.

A member of the union who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the union was planning to have roundtable meeting with the Governor Makinde to resolve the issue.

My prayers are with the families of the worshipers who were killed today during a church service at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State. Now more than ever, these gruesome killings must end.

We must protect all Nigerian lives by dealing decisively with the terrorists that perpetrate such acts. It is my hope, and that of all Nigerians, that the terrorists will be swiftly apprehended and made to face the full consequences of their actions.

May the Almighty God grant the victims speedy recovery, and bring solace to all the affected families.

*LAUTECH et RESUMPTION* ‼️

Good morning famz 🥰.

It's not news anymore that the LAUTECH MANAGEMENT is still holding on the previous announced date of resumption (26th of May, 2022)which was absolutely obvious that it was disrupted by the ASUU and JAC bodies through a peaceful protest for the yet fulfillment of their demands and this caused lot of confusion as lot of students including me was so indecisive on whether to stay at home or come to school.

After reaching out to reliable source and making good enquiry about all this commotion including the lecture that held in the MEE department two days ago, it was confirmed that LAUTECH is already in session and the MANAGEMENT et All concerned Unions (ASUU, NASU, SSANU, JAC, ETC) have all hands on deck to resolve necessary issues and lectures will commence fully as from next week without any interruption and the long awaited Academic calendar will be released too.
Hoping this comes to reality 🙇

We've requested for a proper information on this resumption from the management through the LAUTECH SUG in other to ascertain the students and public that truly, LAUTECH has resumed and there won't be any drama afterwards.
Believing that we won't have any reason to doubt this process, we patiently wait on this and most importantly the academic calendar.

Permit us to use this medium to urge everyone to get back to school and start studying well as the remains of the semester will be run in a short span of time!

Wishing you all safe trip back to school and a successful session 🥰

*HAPPY RESUMPTION* ‼️

FG RECEIVES WHITE PAPERS REPORTS ON VARSITIES, SET TO END ASUU STRIKE.

The ministry of education had constituted 10 committees to draft white papers from the visitation panel of 36 federal universities, six panels for 25 polytechnics and five for 21 colleges of education.

The panels were tasked to prepare the white papers from the reports of the visitation panels that had earlier been submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari in April 2021.

Findings by PREMIUM TIMES revealed that the draft white papers were submitted to the minister on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

Submission

Receiving the white papers, the minister was said to have assured the panels that the government will “make efforts” to implement the recommendations contained therein.

He said the ministry will submit the reports to the president, “whose prerogative it was to subsequently issue a federal government official white paper after the report undergoes the required internal processes”.
The minister was said to have commended the panel members for completing the task on time.

According to a publication on the website National Universities Commission (NUC) said the minister received the white papers at the Idris Abdulkadir Auditorium located inside the headquarters of the Commission in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The ministry shall act on those aspects required of them in the final white paper,” the publication quoted the minister.

Mr Adamu also expressed optimism that the recommendations if accepted by the government and properly implemented, the nation’s tertiary institutions would improve “in the areas of governance, quality assurance, management of finances, cordial relationship between management and other stakeholders, condition of physical infrastructures, quality of instruction as well as competencies of graduates”.
Constituting the panel

President Muhammadu Buhari approved the constitution of the white paper drafting committees, on 13th January 2022.

The panels were constituted on February 17th, a few days after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on an initial four-week rollover strike, listing the release of the white paper from the visitation panels as part of its demands.

The strike has been extended and is currently in its fourth month with no end in sight.
When President Buhari inaugurated the 21 panels on 21st March 2022, he tasked them with reviewing the reports of the panels with particular emphasis on the observations, findings and recommendations; and to articulate the government’s position and decisions with respect to all matters raised/considered in the report..

Strike: We will inform our members— LAUTECH ASUU, JAC reply Oyo Govt

Mouthpiece NGR reports that the Oyo state government has appealed to both Academic and Non Academic Unions at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) to resume activities.

Recalls that Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU embarked on strike a few months ago over the inability of the Federal Government to fulfil agreements the two parties entered years ago.

On Thursday, April 21, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Educational Institutions (NASU) also extended their four-week-old strike by another one month.

The Oyo government at a meeting summoned by the Hon. Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology (EST) on Wednesday, appealed to the unions to pull out of the ongoing strike.

The meeting which lasted for 15 minutes had all executive members of ASUU including Committee of SSANU, NASU and NAAT.

Mouthpiece NGR earlier reported that the unions had on 6th of May, 2022, put forward some demands before Oyo State government as part of conditions to opt out of the ongoing strike.

These demands include Commencement of the payment of EAA of 2013/2014 – 2020/2021, Payment of outstanding salary deductions to cooperative societies and Unions and Payment of promotion arrears from 2011 till date.

Increase of monthly subvention to the University to cater for personnel costs and Release of special intervention fund of # 5bn to kickstart were amongst the demands presented by the union.

It was learnt at the end of the meeting, the Hon. Commissioner reported that the visitor asked him to passionately appeal to the union to reconsider their stands on the current industrial action embarked upon.

The union leaders in their quick response also informed that they will tell their members.

More to come…..

*BEING THE COMMUNIQUE OF THE PEACEFUL PROTEST OF AN APPEAL TO THE OYO STATE GOVERNMENT IN IBADAN*

Today, the student populace of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology matched down to the Oyo State Secretariat on a peaceful protest to make our request known to the State Government on the peculiarities of our dear institution to opt-out of the ongoing National ASUU Strike, being a State University and incessant strike imbroglio LAUTECH had undergone before now.

The Student’s Union President commended the impact of the present Oyo State Government ably led by Governor Seyi Makinde, for his impact on our alma mata. He analyzed why LAUTECH shouldn’t be part of the ongoing National ASUU Strike with references to contemporary State University that has opted out or didn’t join the strike, and agitations of Ladokites for resumption to the Commissioner of Education of Oyo State. The President appealed and requested that resumption should be announced for LAUTECH next week.

While responding to the President's request, the Commissioner of Education, Barr. Rahman Abiodun Abdul-Raheem assured the students that the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology would opt out of the ongoing strike and resumption for Ladokites will be next week. However, he appreciated the President of the Student’s Union, Adeboye Anuoluwa for making the protest a peaceful one.

The President praised the Commissioner of Education however stated that if his word failed Ladokites, the Students’ Union will not fail to re-mobilize down to the Oyo State Secretariat.

We hereby implore Ladokites to remain calm and be fully prepared for resumption as further information about the resumption would be released soon.

NANS SENATE MEETING UPDATE!!!

Yesterday we held our Senate Meeting/Pre-convention to signal the official kickoff of our transition process.

Arising from the Pre-Convention, a convention date has been slated for 25th-28th of August to usher in a new leadership, a leadership that will build on the legacies we have elicited.

We discussed extensively on ASUU, our action plan and the recent hopeful reports on possible suspension of the strike anytime soon arising from our threat. The communique of the Senate Meeting/Pre-Convention shall be released soon.

We also agreed that CBN must close down all bank accounts associated with NANS to enable NANS have a single bank account to reduce impersonation, sharp practices and to encourage unity of control and command, while also ensuring the organisation is autonomous and could generate funds through capitation fees rather than solicitation which continue to weaken the association.

You will recall I promised to leave NANS better than I met it. During this period of our leadership, we've ensured regular Senate Meetings, We have given the association a new constitution, a feat that is unprecedented in the last 40years. We have ensured that majority of proscribed students unions has been reinstated, expelled union leaders recalled, school/hostel fees reduction in many institutions that requested our intervention. I visited over 49 tertiary institutions till date to ensure that NANS is returned to the campus, and we have institutionalize the return of NANS to campus through the constitutional requirements to contest office in NANS in the new constitution.

While we might not be perfect or made few mistakes along the line, we have always been available to our responsibilities, serving no other interest than the interest of the Nigerian students. We have engaged in institutionalized change that will transcend our term.

As we await the communique from the drafting committee, I wish all Senators and Students safe travel back to their various destinations.

I also wish aspirants best of luck as they prepare for the elective convention in August. Note that the venue of the convention hasn't been fixed, states interested in the convention can begin to work in preparation to host what promises to be the most organized NANS Convention of recent history.

Thank you very much for all your support for NANS under my leadership. We hope to share good news with you soon on our resumption back to our campuses.

Comr. Sunday Dayo Asefon

: Buhari orders NITDA to subject IPPIS, UTAS, U3PS to integrity test, prepares to pay lecturers

There is good progress on efforts to make striking lecturers suspend the ongoing industrial action. President Muhammadu Buhari has today, directed the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA to subject the Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System, IPPIS and the two other proposed payment solutions proposed by University workers to integrity test.

This is as the Federal Government is making efforts towards ensuring that the Consequential Adjustment/ minimum wage arrears are paid to the striking university workers this week in order to persuade them call off the ongoing strike.
