Invasion Plans: Resources Concluded; We’ll Force Niger Coup Leaders Out Of Power - ECOWAS

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) says the bloc has assembled all resources and perfected plans to invade Niger Republic to force out the military junta and reinstate its democratically elected leader, President Mohamed Bazoum.

“All the elements that would go into any eventual intervention have been brought out here and been refined, including the timing, the resources needed, and the how and where and when we are going to deploy such a force,” assured Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS commissioner for political affairs, peace, and security at a meeting with other ECOWAS chiefs in Abuja on Friday.

“We will make them hand over to the civilian authorities,” Mr. Musah added.

Representatives from Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Guinea were conspicuously absent at the ECOWAS meeting, which was held in Abuja, Nigeria, on Friday.

There are still two days left before the ultimatum ECOWAS gave the junta to stand down and allow democracy to reign but Abdouramane Tchiani seems implacable and unwilling to back down, evidenced in an announcement to cut off ties with its neighbour, Nigeria and three other nations.

On Thursday, he announced Niger was severing all diplomatic relations with France, Nigeria, Togo, and the U.S. and further asked the ambassadors to those countries to return.

The delegation ECOWAS chair, President Bola Tinubu, also sent to make peaceful talks with the junta met a dead-end in their mission as they were unable to meet Mr. Tchiani and also denied entry to Niamey, the nation’s capital, a report by AP said

Four men from Nigeria took a huge risk in their bid to relocate abroad.

They went to Lagos and sat under a big container ship which carried them for 14 days on the ocean.

The men perched like birds on the rudder of the ship, hoping to make it to Europe, but they discovered themselves in Brazil.

PHOTOS: Abdulsalami-led ECOWAS delegation meets Niger coup leaders

An Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) delegation led by Abdulsalami Abubakar, former military head of state, on Thursday arrived Niamey, capital of Niger, to negotiate with the country’s military junta.

Abdulsalami was accompanied by Muhammadu Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, and Alieu Touray, president of the ECOWAS commission.

The new military government in Niger is led by Abdourahmane Tiani, former head of ousted President Mohamed Bazoum’s presidential guard.

“Any Nigerian who lives abroad, funding the campaign of Peter Obi shall be arrested. It is against our electoral laws...one thing Nigerians who based abroad failed to understand is that they cannot stay there and dictate to us how to govern our country. Someone will seat in United States of America and be telling us what to do and what not to do as if we don’t know what we are doing in this country".

2023: Peter Obi’s Emergence Will Affect PDP, I Wish He's Not Contesting - Okowa

Peoples Democratic Party, vice presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, has lamented the emergence of Peter Obi. According to him, Obi's emergence will affect the chances of the PDP in the southeast region of the country. Meanwhile, he insisted that the issues surrounding his emergence will soon be resolved and an amicable solution will be reached.

Speaking on the chances of the PDP, he said:

“In the South East, it will obviously be an issue for us because of the sentiments that comes in. But I know that the PDP has stronghold in the southeast. And I know that the contest in the South East is between the PDP and LP obviously. We would wish he was not in the race but since he is in the race, it is going to be real competition between the two parties (PDP and LP, not the APC) in the southeast."

Going further, he said that the controversy trailing his emergence as the party VP candidate will soon be a thing of the past as efforts are ongoing to resolve all issues.

“Secondly, I’m in touch with all my colleagues in South-South. As a party and family, we are all talking with Governor Wike. And the process is being led by our Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar because he is the leader. I believe that sooner than later we will be able to have the issue resolved."

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has disclosed that a loss awaits the All Progressives Congress, APC, if President Muhammadu Buhari insists on the conduct of a free and fair election in 2023.

Wike said the APC will lose in 2023 if Buhari insists on a free and fair election.

Speaking at the flag-off of construction work of Igwuruta internal roads in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State, Wike thanked the president for promising not to interfere in the 2023 election.

Pastor impregnates 12-year-old church girl in Ogun, blames devil

A self-acclaimed pastor has reportedly impregnated a 12-year-old girl in Ogun State, saying it was the devil’s handiwork.

The 48-year-old Pastor, Michael Abiodun is said to be the Minister in charge of The Light House Gospel Church, Oluwo, Owode Egba, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun.

Abiodun has since been arrested by the police “for defiling and impregnating a minor, whose mother was a member of his church.”

The Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the pastor’s arrest followed the information received at Owode Egba divisional police headquarters.

It was gathered that the victim’s mother had joined the church after battling a spiritual problem that allegedly led to the death of two of her daughters.

In order to prevent the victim from dying like her sisters, she had run to the church for deliverance.

“One fateful day, the Pastor a father of three, asked the victim’s mother to send her to him for special prayers but on getting there, the Pastor took her into a room within the church and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her, which resulted in pregnancy,” Oyeyemi said.

Upon the information, the DPO of Owode Egba division, CSP Olasunkanmi Popoola, deployed his men to the church where the said Pastor was arrested.

“On interrogation, he confessed to the commission of the crime but blamed it on the devil.

“He further confessed been the person who deflowered the victim, who was a JSS 2 student,” it was said.

Oyeyemi quoted the mother of the victim as saying that she did not know her daughter was pregnant until seven months after, saying her daughter had not been menstruating before.

The victim, who was delivered of a baby three months ago informed the police that she was threatened by the Pastor of dare consequences if she informed anybody about what happened between them and that was the reason she didn’t inform her mother, DAILY POST learnt.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, ordered that the case be transferred to State CIID for further investigation and possible prosecution.

‘I Killed My Parents Over Blasphemous Comments Against Prophet Muhammad’

Munkaila Ahmadu who killed his parents in Gagarawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State said he did so because they uttered blasphemous comments against the prophet Muhammad.

Mr Ahmadu, a singer and, a member of the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect, said his parents mocked and called him a mad person and opposed him being a praise singer for the prophet.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how the Police in the state arrested Mr Ahmadu, 37, after he killed his parents and injured two others on Thursday.

If You Have a SIM Card, PLEASE READ!, Very Important

I wanted to get a new SIM to complement the one I already have. Then I decided to patronise a road side sim vendor and the unexpected happened.

During registration, I gave out the needed details to the vendor and the registration was going on smoothly until it got to capturing.

Usually, you are expected to be captured once but the vendor captured me twice and that made me suspicious. So I queried him but he gave a flimsy excuse.

Immediately after the registration, I got a welcome text message indicating I registered two numbers instead of one and

I asked why two numbers registered in my name instead of one, the vendor said "it's normal, that sometimes the issue is from the network operators”.

The next day, I went to Glo office to lay a complain and the moment I mentioned what brought me, the manager there said

"these guys again? Why doing these to innocent people"?, that was when I realized the gravity of what just happened. The second number was deregistered, the case was reported and the guy was picked up.

Questioning the vendor, he said they usually use people's details to register other sim cards which they resell to "car trackers" at a higher price.

On further interrogation, he confessed that he uses people's details to register sim cards which they sell to fraudsters,

ritualists, kidnappers and he makes a lot of money from the business.

Now, imagine if he sold this second number to a kidnapper or a fraudster and when tracked, my picture and details would pop up and it would be difficult to deny.

I'm putting this out here because a lot of innocent people are in prisons today because of cr!me they know nothing about.

While doing your registration, please be attentive and report any suspicion to the right authority.

Uncertainty Looms As Tinubu Meets Wike, Makinde, Ortom, Ikpeazu Other PDP Governors In London

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took another turn on Tuesday as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, met with some PDP Governors, including Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in London.

It was learnt that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, his Abia State counterpart, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu and other PDP stalwarts from Governor Wike’s camp attended the meeting.

DAILY POST gathered that Wike and some of his PDP loyalists, including Governor Samuel Ortom had traveled to the United Kingdom for the critical meeting.

Recall that following his defeat at the PDP presidential primary election, Governor Wike has been in a cold war with the party’s flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.

Efforts by the party stakeholders to resolve the differences have continued to prove abortive, as Wike’s camp demand resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

According to reports, the meeting in London centred on the need for the Wike camp to support Tinubu’s presidential ambition.

Muslim-Muslim ticket: Dogara, Babachir meet IBB, Abdusalami in Minna

The immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon Yakubu Dogara and immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal have continued their consultations with key national and political leaders on their rejection of the Muslim-Muslim Presidential and Vice Presidential ticket of the ruling All Progress Congress (APC).

The duo, accompanied by a former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba met separately with former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida in his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State and former Head of State General Abdusalami Abubakar.

Although the meeting was held on Monday, the details just emerged but sources closed to the politicians said that they were in Minna to felicitate with General IBB on the occasion of his 81st birthday anniversary and also to consult with him on their stance on the APC Muslims-Muslim ticket.

They had recently convened a submission of the APC Northern Christian Forum in Abuja where Representatives and delegates from the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory vehemently rejected the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC.

Inside sources told Our Correspondent in Bauchi that Babachir, Dogara and other Northern Christian leaders in the APC, “are consulting ahead before they can take a decision on which of the Presidential candidates they will adopt and support ahead of the 2023 general elections.”

The source declared that “The choice is now between Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.”

I Did Not Say I Will Hand Over Federal Universities To State Governments - Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has clarified his statement on his plans for education if elected in 2023.

Atiku noted that he would not hand over federal universities to states, explaining that education remains on the concurrent list.

In a statement issued on Monday night, Atiku’s media aide Paul Ibe said what his principal said at the plenary of the 62nd annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association as it relates to education and how to address the crisis in the sector was misinterpreted and quoted out of context.

The statement said: “What the PDP presidential candidate referred to was his plans for a phased devolution of power to the federating units.

“The report in some sections of the media is, therefore, a misleading and false account of what transpired when the PDP Presidential candidate fielded questions as a panelist at the opening ceremony of the NBA conference.”

The media office of the PDP presidential candidate stressed that “in answering the question posed to him, Atiku Abubakar merely recalled his engagement with a university professor where he argued that the United States of America shared similarities with the first set of universities in Nigeria which belonged to the regional governments and noted that with proper planning and phased devolution of power, federal universities that have now become unwieldy could be made to work better under the component federating units.

“He also maintained that education would remain in the concurrent list under his administration when elected”.

COURT CONVICTS MAN FOR DESTROYING PDP BILLBOARD

A Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs Kadoon Gbasha has convicted a 30 year old man, Ternenge Peter of Wurukum, Makurdi for destroying a billboard belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, mounted at Wurukum roundabout.

The trial Magistrate Mrs Gbasha sentenced him to one month community service which in default he will go to jail for two months.

The Magistrate stated that the community service will be carried out at the Court premises for 30 working days from 9am to 2pm each day.

The Magistrate warned youths in the state to deist from the habit of alcoholism and mischief and engage themselves in useful ventures to secure their future.

Earlier, the prosecuting police officer, Inspector Kuegh Abugh told the court that the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Bemgba Iortyom, in company of the Chairman, Task Force on Illegal Motor Parks, Bobby Uper, had arrested the convict and took him to the State Criminal Investigation Department(Cid) in Makurdi , while destroying PDP campaign billboard at Wurukum Roundabout.

The Prosecutor stated that when the convict saw some youths coming to the scene of the crime, he started running but was arrested.

When the case came up, the convict pleaded guilty to the charge and explained that he committed the offence under the influence of alcohol after being instructed by an official of the All Progressives Congress, APC, which he didn't mention the name.

He begged the court to forgive him, saying his wife left him with a two-year-old baby girl to cater for.
