iVerify Project 

Excited to be among the 27 Journalists shortlisted for training by the International Press Center (IPC),with support from the UNDP ahead of the off -cycle elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo States.

IPC launched the iVerify project, a platform that equips  journalists to  counter misinformation and provide accurate information to citizens.

The workshop is the kick-off of the IPC’s iVerify project, which is supported by the United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP),held at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. 

The workshop was aimed at equipping journalists from the print, electronic and online media with the necessary skills to ensure factual accuracy of news and enhance the credibility of electoral information.

Taiwo Obe, Founder, Journalism Clinic took journalists through the "art of questioning in journalism",while  David Ajikobi, Editor, Africa Check introduced Journalists to Fact-checking tools and their workings.

Lanre Arogundade, the ED, IPC insisted that, journalists must at all times maintain the integrity and credibility of the election process through their reportage.

As a communications professional, I have realized that being knowledgeable about various aspects of the industry is crucial. And when I found myself in a new role with even higher expectations, I knew I needed to upskill in order to deliver effectively.

Last week we hosted a roundtable with stakeholders and media to carry out an impact assessment of the COVID-19 vaccine uptake project tagged the Equitable Recovery Campaign Project supported by Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) .

The project coordinator Yemi Balogun narrated the complex challenges posed by the vaccine project in Kogi state and how she as Project Coordinator, along with various stakeholders strategized to ensure the successful distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Despite the numerous challenges, our efforts have been fruitful so far. Our efforts have resulted in more people getting vaccinated, hence, increasing the statistics of those fully vaccinated and now we can see a reduction in infections and mortality rate”, she added

The Project Coordinator appreciated CITAD and MacArthur Foundation for their support which made the project a reality. She also commended the collaborations from various stakeholders since the beginning of the project in 2021, which she said has yielded positively in terms of response to vaccine uptake, stressing that experts have maintained that vaccination remains the most effective strategy to combat the COVID-19 virus.

Participants at the event shared their experiences, made recommendations and commitments towards ensuring that the advocacy on COVID-19 vaccine uptake is sustained across the 21 Local Government of Kogi State.
