My final takeaway from Presideht's speech is that he should realise that state governments, especially Governors, are not the best means and ways to channel intervention funds and palliatives to the grassroots. Yes, he will need their political support to govern, and he may also have an eye on his second-term agenda, which is natural, so he would want to appease and patronise them. But that should only be to some extent.

Perhaps he may want to work with faith-based associations, like the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Christian Association of Nigeria to set up interfaith agencies in all thirty-six states and the FCT Abuja to provide alternative and non-governmental structures for getting some of these intervention funds and services as well as palliatives to the hands of Nigerians who need them.

These bodies can incorporate other critical unions, like the National Council of Women Societies, National Association of Nigerian Students and market women's associations, for a more efficient circulation of these poverty alleviation schemes.

Finally, some of these interventions may be done through direct cash transfers to the bank accounts of beneficiaries, having been identified by these non-governmental bodies.

What do you think?

"My husband used to drop money for me everyday for feeding. From the money he gave me daily, I was saving 300 naira out of it.
When I checked my savings after 6 months, I found out that I have been able to save up to 42,000 naira,I was so happy.
One day, when my husband came back from work, I asked him if he could give me 5000 naira which he did. The next day, I went to the market, bought a grinding machine and some plastics. When my husband came back home, he saw the machine and was so happy, that was when he told me that he had been planning to buy same machine by the time he got his monthly contribution.
When I finally told him how I raised the money, he was surprised and said it meant he has been giving me money to save for him.
My husband takes care of the children's school fees and house rent while I take care of the things needed at home, the burden is not much on him again."

Can all Abawa girls come and defend themselves for this?
