Junior Pope: Our Lawyers Preparing Documents - Actors Guild President

The President, Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, has said that he is waiting for the report from a committee that was set up to investigate the boat accident that claimed Nollywood actor, John Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope and four others.

Rollas stated that once the report is submitted, the Association of Movie Producers and Adanma Luke will hear from their lawyers.

Rollas made this known during an interview with Arise TV correspondent, Oseni Rufai, on Friday, as he added that a day after Junior Pope died, some actors still travelled by boat without life jackets

Rollas said, "Our lawyers are already preparing documents because this matter is actionable. I am only waiting for a small committee we have set up to give me the report on all the things that happened.

"I also learnt that not only the day that Junior Pope died, the previous day they still went on the waters without life jackets. At least the video that Junior Pope showed everybody on Instagram the previous day people on that boat weren't wearing life jackets.

"I am waiting for this report, and as soon as I get the report, the Association of Movie Producers and the Adanma Luke Production will also hear from our lawyers.

"The other day, we had an actor who almost died on set because the producer hired a driver who doesn't have a driver's licence and also doesn't know how to drive and while he was reversing, he hit the actor, Emmanuel. It was the Guild that took him for treatment, hospital, and everything. We spent millions of naira to get him back on track, and the producer was still saying,'Please, please.'

"This is not a profession for brothers or sisters. It is a business profession. If you are a producer, be a producer, and put money down. If you hire an actor, pay him, and he will act. It is not 'abeg do this for me there is no money.'"

Junior Pope and four other actors drowned after their boat capsized on Anam River in Anambra State on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, while returning from a movie shoot.

Nollywood actress, Amarachi Igidimbah has expressed her condolences to her late colleague, Junior Pope's widow, Jennifer Afolayan.

Taking to her Instagram page, the movie star acknowledged the difficulty finding the right words to comfort Jennifer during this difficult time.

She expressed her sorrow for her loss and said she's been thinking about her since the news on Wednesday.

Amarachi Igidimbah then offered words of hope and spiritual encouragement to junior Pope's widow.

She cited specific Bible verses about finding solace in God's promises and experiencing future joy.

In her words;

"Jennifer ……. I have 1000 words type for you but surprisenly I don’t know how best to put it so it can send my exact massage and maybe you can find solace in them 💔 No pain is greater , Life indeed happened in the most cruel way to you , I haven’t stoped thinking about you since last Wednesday that I left that hospital by 11pm after realising all hope is lost 😢 , everyday I wake thinking how is ‘Envy of all women’ doing ? ….. The Benin Traditional Council has kicked against the planned installation of one Alhaji Danjuma Garba Binkola as the “Garkuwan Hausawan Benin” by one Alhaji Adamu Isah Adamu.

A letter dated April 18, 2024, titled, “denunciation of plan to hold a turbaning ceremony in Benin City”, was signed by Chief Sam Igbe, Iyase of Benin Kingdom, on

behalf of the Benin Traditional Council.

The letter addressed to the Edo State Director, Department of State Security, DSS, alleged that the said Alhaji Adamu Isah Adamu described himself as “His Royal Highness”.

Igbe, said the turbaning ceremony is scheduled to hold on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at No. 7 Butcher Street, Off Mission Road, Benin City.

The Iyase of Benin, opined that the planned turbaning ceremony was an unacceptable plan to desecrate the sacred Benin Traditional and Customary Law on Chieftaincy Matters, and unpalatable consequences for law and order in the State.

He also added that it was a violation of Benin Traditional and Customary Law applicable to Chieftaincy Matters, and therefore must not hold under any circumstances.

According to him, it has come to the notice of the Benin Traditional Council (BTC) that an individual claiming to be known as “His Royal Highness Alh. Adamu Isah Adamu” and who describes himself as “Sarkin Hausawa” plans to perform a Turbaning ceremony in which one “Alh. Danjuma Garba Binkola” will be installed as “Garkuwan Hausawa Benin” on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at No. 7 Butcher Street, Off Mission Road, Benin City.

“The BTC hereby informs the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies as well as the general public that this planned event is a violation of Benin Traditional and Customary Law applicable to chieftaincy matters and therefore must NOT HOLD under any circumstances.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the BTC wishes to emphasize that as the Prescribed Authority on Chieftaincy Matters within the Seven Local Government Areas of Edo South Senatorial District, the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, His Royal Majesty Ewuare II, Oba of Benin has not given consent to, or approved the turbaning or conferment of chieftaincy title by whatever name called on any individual by the name “Alh. Danjuma Garba Binkola”; or permitted any person by the name “His Royal Highness Alh. Adamu Isah Adamu” to hold any such ceremony in Benin City or any other part of Edo South Senatorial District, Edo State”, he said.

He, however, urged those involved in the planned turbaning ceremony to refrain from violating the sanctity of the Benin Traditional and Customary Law by cancelling the planned ceremony forthwith.

The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has withdrawn all police officers attached to the embattled former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The order for the withdrawal was contained in a police wireless message. The document with reference number: “CB:4001/DOPS/PMF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.48/ 34 reads in part;

“IG has ordered the withdrawal of all policemen attached to His Excellency and former Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello. Acknowledge compliance and treat with utmost importance. Please, above, for your information and strict compliance.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Immigration Service has placed the former governor on its watchlist. This comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday, April 18, declared him wanted in connection to an alleged case of money laundering to the tune of N80.2bn.

In a circular signed by an Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, DS Umar, for the Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, the NIS detailed the former governor’s name, nationality, and passport number.

“I am directed to inform you that the above-named person has been placed on the watch list. Suffice to mention that the subject is being prosecuted before the Federal High Court Abuja for conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering vide letter Ref; CR; 3000/EFCC/LS/EGCS.1/ TE/Vide/1/279 dated April 18, 2024. If seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to the Director of Investigation or contact 08036226329/07039617304 for further action.” the circular reads in part

Prison Service Moves Mr. Bobrisky From Ikoyi To Kirkiri Prison

Fresh facts have emerged that the embattled cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky who was sentenced to a six-month jail term for abusing the Naira has been transferred from the Ikoyi Correctional Center to the Kirikiri Prison by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

Cubana Chief Priest granted ₦10m bail

Justice Kehind Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Lagos has granted Pascal Okechukwu also known as Cubana Chief Priest N10million bail.

He pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft commission filed a three-count charge against Cubana Chief Priest accused of abusing the naira at a social event, an act said to be contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

Alleged Naira abuse: Cubana Chief Priest pleads not guilty

Businessman, Pascal Okechukwu a.k.a Cubana Chief Priest has pleaded not guilty to charges of naira abuse filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

While being arraigned in court this morning, Cubana’s counsel, Chukosolo Ojukwu, opposed the charges filed against him by the EFCC. He has also filed an application for bail.

He is currently being arraigned at the federal high court in Lagos.

EFCC FILES CHARGES AGAINST CUBANA CHIEF PRIEST

The allegations brought against Cubana were submitted on April 4th by EFFC prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) and a team of seven other lawyers representing the Commission’s Chairman.

In Count 1, it was alleged, “that you, Okechukwu Pascal on 13th Feb. 2024, at Eko Hotel, within the jurisdiction of the court, while dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

In count 2, it was alleged, “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in 2020, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

In Count 3, it was alleged, “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in January 2024, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

The court hearing happened shortly after the EFCC brought charges against the well-known cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly referred to as Bobrisky, for comparable offenses and handed down a six-month jail term.
