Design Thinking is a design methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. Understanding the five stages of Design Thinking will empower anyone to solve complex problems that occur around us.

1. Empathise
This involves consulting experts to find out more about the area of concern through observing, engaging and empathizing with people to understand their experiences and motivations, as well as immersing yourself in the physical environment so you can gain a deeper personal understanding of the issues involved.

2. Define (the Problem)
Here, you put together the information you have created and gathered during the Empathise stage. This is where you will analyse your observations and synthesise them in order to define the core problems that you and your team have identified up to this point.

3. Ideate
Here you "think outside the box" to identify new solutions to the problem statement you’ve created, and you can start to look for alternative ways of viewing the problem.

4. Prototype
Here you will now produce a number of inexpensive, scaled-down versions of the product or specific features found within the product, so they can investigate the problem solutions generated in the previous stage.

5. Test
During the test stage, the results generated during the testing phase are often used to redefine one or more problems and inform the understanding of the users, the conditions of use, how people think, behave, and feel, and empathise.

10 Basic Elements of Design

There are hundreds of rules when it comes to creating beautiful designs on and off the web, but these I am sharing with you are the basic essentials to craft appealing and professional work.

Lines are useful for dividing space and drawing the eye to a specific location. For example, think about how a magazine uses lines to separate content, headlines and side panels.

Colour creates a mood within the piece and tells a story about the brand. Every colour says something different, and combinations can alter that impression further. Everything is ultimately a shape, so you must always think in terms of how the various elements of your design are creating shapes, and how those shapes are interacting.

The parts of the site that are left blank, whether that’s white or some other colour, help to create an overall image. Textures can create a more three-dimensional appearance on this two-dimensional surface. It also helps build an immersive world.

The fonts you use tell readers you’re a serious online news magazine, a playful food blog or a vintage tea tins shop. Words are important, but the style of the words is equally essential.

Playing with the scale and size of your objects, shapes, type and other elements add interest and emphasis. Lastly, Harmony is what you get when all the pieces work together.
