Tribunal affirms Gov Abiodun’s victory, dismisses PDP, Ladi Adebutu’s petitions

After Twelve hours of sitting, Ogun Tribunal has affirmed the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, as winner of the State’s March 18 governorship election.

The Tribunal, sitting in Abeokuta and presided by Justice Hamidu Kunaza, supported by Justice J B Egele and Justice Sannusi Shehu had dismissed the petition filed by the PDP and it’s candidate, Ladi Adebutu, on the grounds of on the grounds of incompetence, being vague and lacking understanding of how to use the wording of the electoral act, as well as unreliable witnesses and evidence.

OgunWatch reports after receiving 276,298 votes, INEC pronounced Abiodun as the victor. Adebutu received 262,38 votes, and Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished in a distant third place with 94,754 votes.

Abiodun and the APC were brought before the Tribunal by the PDP and Adebutu, who claimed that the governor had not received the majority of the votes cast in the March 18 governorship election.

In the petition with the file number EPT/OG/GOV/03/2023, the PDP and Adebutu accused the INEC of violating the Electoral Act and engaging in unethical behaviour during the election.

The petitioners also claimed that thugs interfered with elections in over 99 polling places, preventing over 40,000 voters from casting ballots.

Adebutu requested a court order designating him as the election’s victor.

Additionally, he requested that the court order the INEC to hold new elections in 99 polling places spread across 41 wards and 16 local government areas of the State, where previous polls had been annulled or postponed as a result of disruption and excessive voting.

However, the judges maintained that the petitioners had not established beyond a reasonable doubt that the claims of non-compliance, overvoting, voter disenfranchisement, non-qualification of the second respondent (Abiodun), and corrupt practises during the election were true.

In the lead ruling, Justice Kunaza stated that the forensic specialists had no evidence to support their expertise, and that their reports could not be trusted.

The panel arrived at the conclusion that there was no tangible evidence that persons were denied the right to vote during the election.

The tribunal insisted that the disenfranchised voters testify that they were ready to vote, that their candidate would have won if they had been permitted to vote, and that they possessed their voters’ cards and were registered voters.

Concerning Abiodun’s alleged ineligibility owing to criminal histories, Kunaza stated that the petitioners had failed to prove that the second respondent (Abiodun) had been tried, arraigned, and convicted in the United States.

“On the whole, the petitioners have not successfully proven the allegation of non compliance with the electoral act and have not discharged the burden of prove,” he said.

In dismissing the petition, Kunaza “I uphold the election of Dapo Abiodun as the dully elected governor of Ogun State in the March 18 election.”

OgunWatch in an interview with Taiwo Ospitan , counsel to APC, he described the judgement as “ a fantastic judgment, the right step in the right direction. It is a confirmation of the mandate of the people of this state, a good judgment with no cause for alarm”

The state deputy governor, Noimot Salako Oyedele, praised the judges and counsel for their work, saying that the people of the state voted for Dapo Abiodun but the PDP rejected, and now they have won the verdict twice.

“ I thank the judges and counsel for doing a very thorough job over there for 12 hours. We won this election on the 18th of March. People of the state voted for APC, they voted for His Excellency. But unfortunately the PDP have put us through all this and they prosecuted the election again through the courts and again we have won this election. So we have won this election twice and with this today they can go all the way to the Supreme Court. I can assure you that the people of the state will get the governor that they have voted.

“ I’ll be here as of now till 2027. I thank everybody who has worked together with us to get us here till today. And we look forward to enjoying today’s victory at the election. And then we get back to work and delivery to the people of the state, all that they have voted for and all that they expect for APC government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun.

I don’t kidnap, I only kill people – Aleru, Zamfara terrorist ‘chief’

National Standard News

Widespread public outcry greeted the coronation of the wanted terrorist as a head of the Fulani in Yandoton Daji emirate.

Notorious banditry kingpin, Ada Aleru, who was recently named the Sarkin Fulani Yandoton Daji Emirate (the head of the Fulani in Yandoton Daji) in a chilling confession, said he does not kidnap people but kills them.

The coronation of Mr Aleru, who is the leading terrorist in Tsafe and Faskari axis of Zamfara and Katsina states, generated public outcry across the country.

The state government, subsequently, suspended the Emir of the town, Aliyu Marafa, who conferred the title on Mr Aleru, who is wanted in neighbouring Katsina State for mass killings.

The Katsina government placed a bounty of N5 million on information leading to the arrest of Mr Aleru, who is accused of killing 52 people in Kadisau, a community in Faskari Local Government in 2019.

In his first and only known interview with the media, Mr Aleru told the BBC that he is angry with Hausas and the Nigerian government.

In a documentary titled “The Bandit Warlords of Zamfara” billed to be aired 25 July 2022, Mr Aleru said while his men kidnap people, he is only interested in killing people.

“My men do that; I just go and kill them (people),” Mr Aleru said.

An unnamed associate of Mr Aleru told the BBC Africa Eye team that “the Fulani are systematically excluded from government jobs and other economic opportunities, and that the Nigerian air force attacks innocent Fulani herders and kills their cattle. “How have the Fulani become so worthless in Nigeria?” he asks.”

He lamented that the grazing routes the Fulani relied on upon have been closed off while land and water have become very scarce.

We bought more rifles – Abductors of school girls
The BBC also interviewed the terrorists who abducted pupils from the Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe, Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State.

While the state government insisted that no ransom was paid, the unnamed bandit said they were paying N60 million before they released the pupils.

When asked what they did with the money, he said, “We bought more rifles.”

Distressing scenes, including that of a boy dying from a gunshot wound, were also released in the documentary.

“I remember how he raised his head to look at me while he was in that condition,” the boy’s father told the BBC. “It pains me how much my boy suffered…I am devastated.”

The BBC said it gathered that the teenage boy, whose sister was among the abducted Jangebe school girls, was killed by security forces.

Part of the findings by the documentary team was the growing bitterness against the Fulani community by the Hausa community, which was evident in the encounter between the team and residents of Kurfar Danya.

“If allowed, we will kill every Fulani man, even in the town,” says one of the vigilantes, “because they killed our mothers, our fathers, our children, and dumped their bodies here.” A resident declared in protest the killing of over 200 people by the terrorists.

Residents took the reporter to sites of mass graves. The documentary further confirms that the violence in the region is largely aggravated by vengeance, rather than protection. The vigilante groups are largely residents of Hausa communities.

“Many Nigerians are, quite rightly, disturbed by the idea that the violence contains elements of an ethnic conflict. But that is the inescapable conclusion from listening to the voices in this film,” the BBC said in a statement announcing the release of the documentary.

“It’s obvious it is tribal,” says Hassan Dantawaye, a terrorist who was among the first Fulani men to bring guns into Zamfara and take up arms at the head of a terror gang. “If not, how can someone pass settlements but burn down only the Fulani ones? Why would a Fulani kill an innocent Hausa? Clearly, it’s a tribal conflict.”

The BBC Africa Eye said the documentary seeks to offer its contribution towards the unravelling of the conflict.

“The Bandit Warlords of Zamfara offers no simple explanation for the crisis that is destroying lives across northwestern Nigeria. But it does reveal, with painful clarity, the human cost of violence. There are mothers here who have seen their children slaughtered in front of their eyes, families who have been displaced from their homes, and schoolchildren who are still traumatized by the nightmare of abduction and captivity.

“If Nigeria is ever to solve this crisis, the first step is to understand it. With this film, Yusuf Anka and BBC Africa Eye have made an important contribution towards that understanding

He was declared the winner by the Chairman of the primaries Committee, Wale Ohu, having defeated four other aspirants who contested with him.

Meanwhile, the four other aspirants stayed away from the primaries venue but their agents were duly represented and accredited.

Gov. Abiodun governor scored 1168 votes to defeat Arc. Owodunni Opayemi, Barrister Biyi Otegbeye, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf and Adekunle Akinlade, who were the other contestants.

Both Akinlade and Otegbeye had earlier rejected the Chairman of the committee alleging partisanship.

'No Student Was R***d Under Our WatchChrisland School Finally Reacts To S*x Scandal

National Standard News

Chrisland School officials in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, have finally responded to the s*x tape issue involving their kids.

Previously, a mother alleged that her 10-year-old daughter was r***d while on a school trip to Dubai organized by the Lagos school.

Between March 10 and 13, 2022, students from a private school in Victoria Garden City were in the UAE to compete in the World School Games.

However, the pupil’s mother alleged in the now-viral video that graphic footage of the incident had been spread on social media platforms.

The state’s education ministry had also issued a warning to the broader public that uploading such footage amounted to child po*******hy.

According to Akin Fadeyi, a member of the Chrisland advisory board, the school did not do any r**e or pregnancy tests on any of the students, as has been widely reported.

In the historic s*x scandal, there was no r**e, according to the statement.

According to Fadeyi, 76 students were enlisted for the Dubai trip, with 71 of them adhering to the code of behavior.

Male and female students were kept seven storeys apart in the hotel where they stayed, according to the board member.

He claimed that the remaining five students who disobeyed the regulations had been subjected to disciplinary action.

Group defends Dapo Abiodun, urges APC to ignore ‘crying sore losers’
By National Standard News.

A socio-political group in Ogun State, Ogun Progressives Agenda (OPA), has joined issues with those it described as “crying sore losers, who have began a campaign of calumny against the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun”.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Sunday, the Patron of the group, Alhaji Rasheed Sanusi said: “Given the timing, tenor and tone of the campaign, it is clear that it is coming from the camp of a known serial complainant who has totally lost out in the struggle for the soul of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the ward, local government, state, zonal and national levels.

“Although, we are not surprised that their less than clever subterfuge is coming at this time and more particularly in the week that Judas Iscariot sold his master, Jesus, for 30 silver coins, one would have thought that by now they would have stopped crying as advised not long ago by the National Chairman of APC, Senator Adamu Abdullahi, when he visited Ogun state as Chairman of the APC National Reconciliation Committee.

“Or better still, they should have come to terms with the prevailing realities and accept their fate, knowing that yesterday was theirs, today is another person’s and tomorrow is God’s.

“All the baseless grounds canvassed in the wishy-washy petition as reasons for which Governor Abiodun should not seek re-election or be allowed to exercise his constitutionally guaranteed right are, at best, jejune, childish and puerile.”

“They are only trying desperately to blackmail the APC and the Governor with a view to achieving what they could not do among party members, in the court of law, in the court of public opinion and at the poll.”

The group urged the national leadership of the APC to ignore the “sore losers”, adding that, “if anyone feels strongly about any issue he should ventilate such at the court as it is done in all civilized societies.”

It advised the party and the governor not to yield to the blackmail of those it described as “fifth columnists who have constituted themselves into an opposition within the fold simply because they have refused to smell the morning coffee.”

I Called The Police Because Her Husband Was Busy Celebrating Her Death” – Osinachi Neighbour.

National Standard News

Enduring a long-term abusive marriage can be quite exhausting, as a result of the huge emotional cost and constant fear of physical assault.

Since the news broke of the unfortunate death of celebrity gospel music star, Mrs Osinachi Nwachukwu, from pulmonary ailments penultimate Friday, the horrors she endured in her marriage of roughly 10 years to Peter Nwachukwu from Ukpor community in Anambra state came to light.

In many quarters, it is believed that her death was due to excessive beating and other inhuman treatments by her husband.

As a member of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC) which is headquartered in Abuja, Osinachi led worship ministrations across national and international platforms.

However, the ugly story of her toxic marriage has challenged both the culture of silence in most abusive marriages and the doctrine of divorce in church circles.

With Osinachi’s husband now in security custody for allegations of culpable homicide related to her death, many people who knew the couple closely both as worshippers in DIGC and as a private family share some of their exclusive experiences with the Nwachukwus.

Pastor Paul Enenche of DIGC, amongst others have weighed in on the basic dilemma faced by many women who seem trapped in very abusive marriages.

When 38-year-old Glory was told about two weeks ago that Osinachi, her bosom friend, had began experiencing severe chest pain, little did she know that it was the beginning of the health challenge that would claim her life.

At the onset of the sickness, no one in Osinachi’s close circle, including her younger brother who resides somewhere in Lugbe district of Abuja, could figure out what the severe chest pain that was linked with her vomiting blood was all about.

In what seemed like a cruel oddity, the late singer’s husband was focused mainly on denying Osinachi’s family members as well as her friends from having access to her while on the sick bed.

Nevertheless, after several efforts to see Osinachi in the hospital, Glory was finally allowed to meet her friend at the National Hospital in Central Business District of Abuja in her final days on earth.

Since April 8, 2020 when Osinachi transited into the beyond, recounting the sad experiences she endured in marriage has not been easy for her friends and family.

Sharing the singer’s ordeal with Saturday Vanguard, Glory alleged, “Osinachi’s husband sometimes poured a full bucket of cold water on her while she was deeply asleep.

“Osinachi told me that he (husband) threatened her that she would die and he would marry another wife. He called her an imbecile. He even told Osinachi’s twin sister that he was going to separate them. He called Osinachi a pig (smelly dirty woman) publicly.

“When we went for music ministration and programmes, Peter would put the children on dry fasting from morning till evening. He would wake them up by 2:00am to pray for eight straight hours while he himself would be fast sleeping. And if they dared sleep off, and he caught them, he would flog them as well as their mother.

“One of Osinachi’s sons has about 25 scars on his back from the strokes of cane which are testimonies of how he manhandled the children. Another of their sons bears 12 cane scars on his own back.

“He monitors them excessively. If not going to church or school, these children don’t leave the house.”

Why Osinachi didn’t open up

Glory admitted that some of the late singer’s friends were aware of her marriage predicament but somehow could not do much to help her situation.

She said: “Osinachi’s husband used to lock me out of their house when I went visiting. He told me to my face that he didn’t want to see me in their house

“He was fond of spitting on her head and face to show his feelings of disgust towards her, but in spite of all the humiliation, Osinachi did not cry out for help.
