Edozie Akunyili, son of a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, late Dora Akunyili, has expressed concerns about the sacrifices his family made for Nigeria, questioning their worth.

Edozie made his position known while reacting to discussions on X following outrage over the growing prevalence of counterfeit consumer goods in markets and stores across the country.

An X user, Imohunoren, had written, âSince Dora Akunyili left us alone in this evil world, weâve been eating and drinking fake products. That woman looked out for us for real. Top 5 Nigerian to ever exist.â

Responding, another user, kelvin_ig, said, âI can never forget when her house and office in Lagos was burned down on the same day.
Obasanjo asked if she wanted to resign. She said Obj should dead that talk and reinforce her security. Obj did, and she carried on. (O sheâs wild.â

X user, Morris_Monye added, âTill date, no justice for her family over her attempted murder and her family.

Dora Akunyili died at a specialist cancer hospital in India on June 7, 2014 after a two-year battle with uterine cancer.

Her husband, Chike Akunyili, was killed on September 28, 2021, at Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Canadian singer, Celine Dion, no longer has control over her muscles, according to her older sister, Claudette.

A year after the cancellation of her world tour in December, the 74-year-old sibling suggests that Celineâs return to the stage may take a while due to her ongoing battle with the progressive and incurable neurological disorder known as stiff person syndrome.
This disorder prompts the body to attack its nerve cells, severely impacting mobility.

According to Daily Mail on Monday, Claudette said, âShe works hard, but she has no control over her muscles. What breaks my heart is that she has always been disciplined. She has always worked hard. Our mother always told her, âYouâre going to do well, youâre going to do well.ââ

She continued: âIt is true that in our dreams as well as in hers, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? Donât know.â
__
Although research into the condition is ongoing, its rarity means progress has been slow. Claudette added, âThe vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is a muscle too. This is whatâs coming for me. Because itâs a 1 in a million case, the scientists didnât do that much research because it didnât affect that many people.â

Celineâs charity, Fondation Maman Dion, has been inundated with messages of support for the star. Claudette said: âSome people have lost hope because they are all diseases that are not well known. If you only knew how many calls the Foundation gets about Celine! People tell us they love her and are praying for her. She gets so many messages, presents, and blessed crucifixes.â

Claudette previously revealed that despite working with âthe best researchers in the field,â her sister has seen little improvement in her health. She told Le Journal de Montreal: âWe canât find any medicine that works, but having hope is important.â

In October, Claudette said Celine was not yet dependent on a wheelchair to get around and was still planning to perform again.

Mayorkun said he met with the Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, who assured him of compensation for his lost valuables in Calabar.

: The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, unveiled the Ikeja flyover bridge, which is part of the stateâs Red Line Rail project.

Sanwo-Olu was joined by the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; among others.

Tech giant, Apple, on Monday said it would stop selling some of its smartwatch models in the United States while it fought a patent battle over technology for detecting blood oxygen levels.

The move comes more than a month after the United States International Trade Commission recommended banning imports of Apple Watch models that appear to infringe patents held by Masimo Corp.
__
USITC issued a "limited exclusion order" set to go into effect after Christmas day if not nixed by President Joe Biden.
__
A presidential review is underway regarding the USITC order regarding imports of Apple Watch models with the blood oxygen sensing feature at issue in the patent dispute.
__
"While the review period will not end until December 25, Apple is preemptively taking steps to comply should the ruling stand," an Apple spokesperson said in response to an AFP inquiry.
__
Those steps include pausing US sales of Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 from the Cupertino-based tech titan's website starting December 21 and from US retail store locations after December 24, according to the spokesperson.
__
"The ITC's expert judgment in this matter should be respected," a Masimo spokesperson said in reply to an AFP inquiry.
__
"The decision to exclude certain foreign-made models of the Apple Watch demonstrates that even the world's most powerful company must abide by the law protecting intellectual property rights," the spokesperson added.
__
Apple contends that the ITC finding was in error and should be reversed, something it will ask a federal court to do if necessary.

: Troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation HADARIN DAJI, on Sunday, rescued 13 kidnapped victims and arrested 11 suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in Zamfara State.

The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement on its official X handle on Monday.
__
The statement read, "On the 17th December, 2023 the combined troops of OPHD embarked on a search and rescue operation along Gobirawan Chali and Dangulbi areas along the Dansadau axis in Maru local government area of Zamfara State during which the troops rescued 13 kidnapped victims who were abandoned by the fleeing terrorists in the late hours of Sunday.

"All the rescued victims are from Mutunji village of Dansadau Emirate in Maru LGA of Zamfara state and they are currently undergoing medical treatment and debriefing. All the rescued victims were handed over to representatives of the Zamfara state government to unite them with their families."

The statement further added that the troops cleared a notorious terroristsâ hideout at Gidan Jaja in Zurmi LGA of the state, and arrested 11 suspected terrorists logistics suppliers, who supply logistics to a notorious terrorist, Halilu Sububu, at Kwanar Boko in Zurmi LGA.

It read, "The suspects were arrested while conveying 127 bags of grains in two canter trucks belonging to a terrorist kingpin, Halilu Sububu. The arrested suspects are undergoing preliminary interrogation."

The reports that Olaoye was an RCCG pastor, in charge of the churchâs branch, Jesus House in Washington DC, when he was selected as the Soun of Ogbomoso after the ancient stool became vacant following the death of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III.

A Nigerian Juju musician known as Omoba De Jombo Beats and his crew members were allegedly kidnapped while returning from an event on Sunday.

A Nigerian musician, Adeyinka Adeboye, also known as Boyebest revealed this in a post shared on his Instagram account, titled, "A whole full band members kidnapped, Naija is fu*k up I swe$r my prayers are with you guys. You all would come out alive."

They were said to be kidnapped by unknown gunmen after performing live at a show in Abuja during the weekend.

According to Boyebest, the kidnappers are demanding N10 million ransom to release them.
__
Reacting to the incident, an Instagram user, known as noblenaire, wrote, "May God safe you all from the hands of the wicked broke and evil hearted."

Another user, onyinlomodiamond, wrote, "You all shall come back safely unhurt. The blood of Jesus is upon u... None of you will be hurt."

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has confiscated a multi-million-naira mansion located at K-5A/2 Road 14, Victoria Garden City Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, shared on the agencyâs page on Sunday.
__
The statement disclosed that the property was used as a clandestine laboratory for producing methamphetamine by a convicted drug baron, Okenwa Chris Nzewi.
__
Following Nzewi's conviction, the mansion, along with his vehicle marked EKY 496 DJ, has been forfeited to the Federal Government.
__
Nzewi, arrested with associate Sunny Okeh Ukah, had pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four and three years imprisonment, respectively.
__
The statement in part said, âOkenwa was arrested along with his associate, Sunny Okeh Ukah on 30th July 2022 and subsequently arraigned on four counts in charge number FHC/L/527C/2022 at the Federal High Court, Lagos. They both pleaded guilty on 17th July 2023, while they were convicted and sentenced to four and three years imprisonment each with an option of fine of four million (N4,000,000) naira and three million (N3,000,000) naira respectively in addition to community service for four and three weeks each. His vehicle marked EKY 496 DJ was equally forfeited to the Federal Government.

âTo further deny him of enjoying the proceeds of his criminal activity, the NDLEA filed a civil forfeiture charge against the building used as a clandestine laboratory at the Federal High Court Lagos which initially granted an interim forfeiture order that elapsed on 6th December before the final forfeiture on 7th December 2023.

âMeanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Lagos on Friday 15th December arrested a 75-year-old grandma, Mrs. Sekinat Soremekun for dealing in illicit drugs. At the time of her arrest in the Oshodi area of Lagos, quantities of cannabis and litres of codeine syrup were recovered from her. She claimed her son, Segun who is now at large supplied her the illicit substances which she retailed.â

The family of the comic actor, John Okafor, aka Mr. Ibu, has addressed misconceptions surrounding Mr. Ibu's health, stating that contrary to circulating reports on social media, the actor has undergone amputation on only one leg, not both.

They added that the initial amputation proved insufficient to resolve his health challenges, leading to a subsequent amputation on the same leg.
__
The family also refuted claims attributing Mr. Ibu's illness to diabetes disclosing that the actor has been contending with clotting of the blood in his leg, attributed to diseased blood vessels.

This was disclosed in a statement on the actorâs Instagram page on Saturday, December 16.
__
It read, âWe wish to express our sincere gratitude to well-meaning Nigerians and the general public for your immense contributions, physically, spiritually, and most above all financially on getting our daddy Mr John Okafor (Mr Ibu) back on his feet again.
__
âWe wish to correct some misconceptions making rounds on social media concerning the current state of our fatherâs health.
__
âFirst, we would like to state that our daddy wasnât amputated on both legs but only one. The first amputation didnât completely correct his health predicament so the doctors had to go ahead to amputate the same leg further to ensure we didnât lose him.
__
âDaddyâs cause of sickness is also not diabetes but heâs had constant clotting of the blood in his leg (diseased blood vessels) and other health challenges posing risk to his life, therefore the need for the amputation.
__
âLastly, the only reason why the family has not flown him out of the country to date is that the doctors have tagged him 'Not Fit to Fly'.
__
"This tag has made it extremely impossible to get him out of the country for advanced treatment as no airline will fly him.
__
"Daddy is currently admitted at one of the biggest and best hospitals weâve got in Nigeria as of today and the hospital has availed him a pool of very astute professionals.
