Oleksandr Usyk won his heavyweight championship rematch against Tyson Fury by unanimous decision overnight on Saturday to stay unbeaten across two divisions and cement his place among the greats.
__
The Ukrainian, who forced the pace and repeatedly tagged Fury with his accurate left hook, was awarded the fight 116-112 by all three judges, handing Fury his second straight loss.
__
Usyk’s win takes him to 23-0 with 14 knockouts and extends one of the all-time best careers that includes Olympic gold and undisputed champion at cruiserweight.
__
“He’s a great fighter, it’s a great performance,” Usyk, 37, said of Fury, who was unbeaten over 35 fights until he lost their four-belt unification bout in May.
__
“Unbelievable 24 rounds for my career.”
__
Only the WBA, WBO and WBC belts were on the line this time after Usyk, focused on the lucrative rematch, relinquished his IBF title rather than face challenger Daniel Dubois.
__
By beating Fury in May, “The Cat” had already joined the likes of Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis and Mike Tyson as undisputed heavyweight, and the first of the four-belt era.
__
“He’s my best friend,” he said of Fury. “I respect this guy because I think he’s a really tough opponent. Tyson Fury makes me strong.”
__
‘Crazy man’
But the defeat opens up an uncertain future for the 36-year-old Fury, now 34-2-1, who announced his retirement in 2022 only to return to the ring.
__
“I thought I’ve won both fights, but then again I’ve got two losses on my record now, so there’s not much I can do about it,” said the Briton, who refused to discuss his next steps.
__
Promoter Frank Warren also called the judges’ decision “nuts”. But Usyk dismissed his complaints.
__
“Uncle Frank, I think is blind… crazy man,” joked the Ukrainian.
__
Fury, wearing a Santa-style red-and-white robe and bushy beard, appeared to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, before a determined-looking Usyk strode out in Cossack gear.
__
The 6ft 9ins (206cm) Briton’s jab held Usyk at bay early on and he landed a jarring right in round two. Usyk caught Fury flush with a left as he raised the pace in round three.

: The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a businessman identified as an 'I Just Got Back' returnee for attempting to smuggle co***ne into the country.
__
Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, shared videos of the seized contraband on X.com on Sunday.
__
The suspect, who had just returned from a foreign trip, initially raised suspicion due to his nervous demeanour.
NDLEA officials subjected him to a routine screening, during which wraps of co***ne began to fall from his body.
__
The statement said: "Narco-trend update: The moment   officers intercepted an ‘I Just Got Back’ businessman, screened him, and wraps of co***ne began to ‘rain’ from his body. Who will tell them that NDLEA will always get them no matter the mode of concealment?"

: The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, in a series of daring operations, has intercepted large consignments of illicit drugs and arrested several suspects across Nigeria.
__
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, and shared on the agency’s website on Sunday.
__
The most notable bust occurred at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, where an import and export businessman, Olisaka Chibuzo Calistus, was caught attempting to smuggle 256 wraps of co***ne weighing 6 kilograms into the country.
__
The agency revealed that the co***ne was concealed in his body, marking the largest interception of co***ne at the Kano airport since 2006.
__
The statement read: “An attempt by an import and export businessman, Olisaka Chibuzo Calistus, to smuggle 256 wraps of co***ne weighing 6 kilograms into the country through the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, has been thwarted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

: Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma has shared insights into his parenting approach, emphasising the importance of understanding and empathy over corporal punishment.
__
Speaking about his experiences as a father during an interview on The Honest Bunch podcast aired on Monday, Bovi explained that when his child became upset, he would throw things, often breaking items like the family’s television.
__
He said, “I don’t advocate for beating children. You should let children be. My son dey break television for the fun of it. If he vex, he go throw stuff and break it. He got to an age, and I saw the remorse. Thank God for capacity; if I couldn’t afford another TV, then the approach would have been different. That’s why I tell people, most times when we hit kids, check: are you really trying to correct them, or are you frustrated?”
__
He added that a time in 2021 when he posted about the incident was the third TV the child had broken.
__
Bovi also addressed the issue of bullying in schools, expressing his opposition to the hierarchical system where older students, often as young as 16, are given authority over their younger peers.
__
“No child should be given authority over another child in the name of ‘senior student.’ They are children,” he said.
__
He argued that teenagers punishing their peers fosters a culture of abuse and unhealthy authority.
__
“When you follow our educational scheme, a 16-year-old is in SS3. What does a 16-year-old know about authority? It is wrong. It’s creating a system of abuse and hierarchy. It really has to stop.
__
A teenager is punishing a teenager. Do you force respect on people? Can anybody confidently sit and watch a 16-year-old flog their child because the child did something wrong? Will you let him because he’s the senior?”
__
He further criticised the culture that encourages respect through fear, arguing that it starts in secondary school.

Last night in the city of Marrakech, Morocco, Ademola Lookman shone like a million stars. In a stunning twist of fate, the Super Eagle who rose from the ashes of uncertainty, was crowned the African Footballer of the Year.
__
In 2022, the Atalanta forward was yet to decide his international future with zero caps having played for England at the age-grade level. But two years later, Lookman’s bold decision to switch allegiance to the Super Eagles finally paid off.
__
Walking upstairs to pick up his award in a gathering of the biggest names in football, the stars had truly aligned for the Wandsworth-born player. It was a moment that marked a turnaround for the 27-year-old, moving from uncertainty to unparalleled success.
__
As Lookman manned the podium in his green and flowing traditional Nigerian regalia, the Atalanta man could not help but reflect on his journey to reaching the zenith of African football.
__
“Just over four years ago I failed in front of the world, fast forward to four years I am the best player in Africa,” Lookman who was beaming with a smile recalled.
__
“I want to say to the young children and young people watching this ‘Don’t let your failures weigh you down that they break your wings, turn your pain into your power and continue to fight and continue to fly’, God bless!”
__
Unconventional Path
__
Born to Nigerian parents in England, Lookman’s path to becoming Africa’s best was unconventional. Having played a major role as England won the 2017 U-20 World Cup, netting thrice in that tournament, the winger was primed for the top.
__
Lookman’s early career did not, however, blossom as many touted it. It was a wilderness experience for the London-born footballer who endured mixed fortunes in Charlton, Everton, and R.B Leipzig.
__
Lookman went on loan to Fulham and Leicester but his spells in both clubs were neither here nor there. Those were brutal realities for the promising youngster.

__
He wrote, "The President-Elect of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his residence, Presidential Villa, State House Yesterday."
__

__
