CHICAGO STATE UNIVERSITY DENIES KNOWLEDGE OF TINUBU’S CERTIFICATE

A US court has adjourned ruling on a subpoena application for Bola Tinubu’s records from Chicago State University (CSU) after the institution denied knowledge of a certificate the Nigerian president submitted to the country’s electoral commission INEC to run for office.

According to POLITICS NIGERIA’s report, CSU lawyer Michael Hayes told the court that the school was not in a position to authenticate Tinubu’s certificate as either fake or genuine.

He said that the school’s administrators would not be able to certify the certificate because they “just don’t know” where Tinubu obtained it or how.

Hayes also admitted that there were several contradictions in Tinubu’s certificate, including the date it was issued and the name of the school president at the time.

“Is the diploma authentic or is it a forgery? My client can’t answer yes to either of those questions,” Mr Hayes said at the hearing in Chicago in the lawsuit brought by Atiku Abubakar, Mr Tinubu’s challenger and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the February 25 presidential election.

Atiku Abubakar filed the suit to compel CSU to produce records relating to Tinubu and make its top officials available for deposition to certify the produced records.

Abubakar’s lawyers said the documents and depositions are being sought for use in the Nigerian Supreme Court, where the final battle over Tinubu’s election is now headed.

Alexandre de Gramont, who appeared in court for Mr Abubakar, said, “Your Honour, we don’t know whether the Nigerian Supreme Court would be receptive to the new evidence or not, but we just want to be able to present the new evidence to them from CSU,” Mr de Gramont said.

“We already have them (the documents), what we are seeking is CSU’s authentication or their explanation for some of the discrepancies.”

Tinubu’s lawyers, represented via telephone conference by Christopher Carmichael, said Abubakar was on a “fishing expedition.” They noted that the previous statements of CSU to the effect that Tinubu graduated from the school were enough.

Carmichael said there was no need to produce further evidence or place the school’s officials under oath to speak to the authenticity of Tinubu’s certificate. He said the proceeding would only fuel online trolls because the Supreme Court won’t accept new evidence even if produced.

Bola Tinubu submitted a certificate to INEC on June 17, 2022, claiming it was issued in 1979 and signed by Elnora Daniel. However, it was discovered that Ms. Daniel did not enroll at CSU until 1998, 19 years after Mr. Tinubu was supposed to have graduated.

Furthermore, she left the school in 2008 due to a financial mismanagement scandal, which occurred 14 years before June 2022 when CSU issued another certificate in Mr. Tinubu’s name. This issuance was prompted by a subpoena from a Nigerian lawyer who had raised questions about Mr. Tinubu’s educational background.

These contradictions and other discrepancies led Mr. Abubakar to file a lawsuit compelling CSU to provide records related to Mr. Tinubu’s educational history.

Mohbad's Petition To Police Against Sam Larry, Others Surfaces.

A petition written by the late Nigerian artiste Ilerioluwa Aloba aka MohBad, over an alleged threat to life by music promoter Samson Erinfolami Balogun, aka Sam Larry and others, has surfaced online.

The petition alleged that Sam Larry and 15 others stormed a video shoot where the deceased and another artiste, Zlatan Ibile, were working, armed, and threatening to wreak havoc.

They eventually did wreak havoc, destroying equipment worth over N5million at the scene, and assaulting the deceased who narraowly escaped with injuries, the petition claimed.

It was also stated that Sam Larry claimed to be working for Oba Elegushi of Lagos State.

"Sir, I call on your good office to save my life from the above mentioned persons and bring them to book," the petition partly read.

MohBad, who was signed to Marlian Records owned by singer Naira Marley, a known associaite of the said Sam Larry, died on Tuesday, September 12.

The petition dated 27th June, 2023 read,

"PETITION OF THREAT TO LIFE, MALICIOUS DAMAGE OF PROPERTIES VALUED THE SUM OF FIVE MILLION NAIRA, ASSAULT OCCASIONING HARM, OPPRESSION AND CONDUCT LIKELY TO CAUSE BREACH OF PEACE AGAINST SAM LARRY ELEGUSHI, ELELE, OBELE AND OTHERS

"I of the above name and address, a law abiding citizen and a Musician bring to your notice the assault and threat to my life by the above mentioned persons.

"On 25th June, 2023 while having a video shoot with another artist by name Zlatan (Ibile, the above mentioned persons numbering about fifteen led by Sam Larry Elegushi invaded the premises with dangerous arms such as guns, cutlasses etc where I was shooting video and scattered the whole process of the shooting, damaged the equipment I was using for the shooting valued about Five Million Naira and started threatening my life which in the process they became violent and assaulted me which I sustained injuries but narrowly escaped.

"Attached to this petition is the said pictures. Total amount I paid for the shooting they have destroyed is Eight Million Naira (N8,000,000) which is non-refundable.




"However, during the assault, they were boasting that they work for Oba Elegushi and that they have been asked to deal with me for reasons best known to them which till date they are still threatening to kill me if seen. Sir, I call on your good office to save my life from the above mentioned persons and bring them to book.

I could not earn a living for myself anymore because i had alot of shows to perform and earn money from especially in the U.K
But when they get to my former label, Naira Marley will tell them that I'm not okay and that will make them end up denying to give me the show so that made me not to be able to provide for my family, girlfriend and our 4months old baby._________Mohbad

Banana Island Building Collapse: Lagos State Government Confirms No Fatality

The Lagos State Government has reported that there was no fatality from the 7-floor building under construction that collapsed in Banana Island, Lagos State, yesterday evening.

According to the statement on the state’s website, the unfortunate incident happened while workers at the site were involved in some casting work. Eyewitnesses also reported that the incident occurred due to a concrete truck that struck a major structural component of the carcass building.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins was also at the site of the incident to assess the situation, as eyewitnesses confirmed that about seven victims of the building collapse who sustained injuries received immediate medical attention from the Lagos State Ambulance Service. Four of the victims were taken to the hospital.

The government also advised Lagosians to remain calm, as the ministry will provide more information.
