HOTEL BUDGETING

The Hotel Budget session hosted by Radisson Blu Anchorage the HBS management was truly eye-opening. As someone studying in the hospitality industry, understanding the intricacies of budgeting is crucial for success.

During the session, the experts at Radisson Blu Anchorage walked us through the various components of a hotel budget, ranging from revenue projections to operating expenses. They shared real-life examples and case studies to illustrate the importance of accurate budgeting in the hospitality industry.

One of the key takeaways from the session was the significance of forecasting and budgeting for different scenarios. We learned that having a well-thought-out budget can help hotels respond more effectively to changes in market conditions and minimize financial risks.

I was impressed by the level of detail that goes into creating a hotel budget, and the amount of thought and planning that is required to ensure its accuracy. It made me appreciate the complexities of running a successful hotel operation and the importance of financial planning in achieving profitability.

I want to express my gratitude to HBS for always providing such insightful and enriching learning opportunities for its students. By exposing us to real-world experiences and industry experts, HBS truly prepares us to become future professionals in the field of hospitality management. I look forward to applying the knowledge and skills gained from the Hotel Budget session in my future career endeavors.

That’s huge, it’s 20 times the Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan in Japan is named the oldest hotel in the world. The hotel is over 1300 years old. The ownership is held by the same family for over 50 generations. Another fact is that it is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Nishiyama Hot Spring, Keiunkan is said to have had many townsfolk and military commanders of the warring period visiting it. Amidst the unification of Japan after the warring period, it is said that Tokugawa Ieyasu visited twice. Later, it was called the secret hot spring of Takeda Shingen and Tokugawa Ieyasu. No matter how much time has passed, Keiunkan embodies the unchanging hospitality fuelled by the spirit of Japanese harmony towards our guests.

The hot spring has flowed freely without interruption since then and is loved by many townsfolk, military commanders and cultured peoples as a secluded place deep in the mountains of the Kai region. Keiunkan, to this day, still embodies the unchanging hospitality of the heart of Japanese harmony for all of our guests.

My One-Month Culinary Exploration

My one-month culinary exploration has been an exciting and enriching experience for me that has allowed me to dive into the world of food, flavours, spices and cultural traditions. I explored various ingredients, cooking techniques, and cuisine from different parts of the world. Every culinary adventure presents an opportunity to learn, appreciate, and immerse oneself in the vast diversity of our food culture.

I am presenting taking a 1year 6month Hotelier's course in HBS which comes with exploring different departments in a Hotel. My first six months were more of the theoretical aspect and the next few months will be hands-on with a 3months internship in a restaurant and 6months internship in a Hotel.

The exploration was not limited to just trying my hands on new dishes but it also involved me putting to use some of my previous classes such as sourcing and sustainability of ingredients, food costing, control system and waste management

The culinary exploration has sparked creativity and inspired me to experiment with new flavours and techniques in my kitchen. It encourages me to bring back the knowledge and experiences gained during their journey, incorporating them into my culinary creations. Sharing these newfound skills and flavours with family and friends can be a rewarding way to spread the joy of culinary exploration further.
