🛑PRESIDENT TINUBU TO BILL GATES: TECHNOLOGY IS THE ENEMY OF CORRUPTION; WE ARE INVESTING IN TECHNOLOGY TO ENSURE TRANSPARENCY AND ACCELERATE PERFORMANCE

President Bola Tinubu says his administration is investing in technology that is tailored towards ensuring transparency and accountability in government and accelerating public-sector performance and service delivery to the Nigerian people.

Speaking during a meeting with Microsoft Founder and Philanthropist, Mr. Bill Gates, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, President Tinubu said technology is a potent weapon against corruption and financial impropriety in public service.

Emphasizing his unwavering commitment to deliver reliable technology that will support a national consumer credit system and many other critical new government interventions for all Nigerians, the President said resistance is often expected when efforts are made to strengthen systems and forestall malfeasance.

"Technology is the enemy of fraud, corruption, and irregularity. We have been working hard on improving technology.

"There is always the initial resistance. Corruption, self-interest, and fraudulent activity will always be an enemy, but when you bend that curve, you will receive the benefit. The nation will receive the benefit," the President said.

Recounting how he deployed technology to enhance the revenue base of Lagos State as governor, President Tinubu said he ensured the collection and utilization of essential data, creating an efficient tax system for the state.

"When I was governor of Lagos State, I faced challenges. I started with N600 million and ended up with over N8 billion. And right now, they are targeting a trillion naira with the use of technology in the state. There is no other shortcut. We must invest in technology. We must focus, be diligent, and work hard," the President said.

In his remarks, Mr. Gates informed the President of a one-identity technological platform that can integrate variegated data, while explaining the centrality of data harmonization to planning, security, and tax efficiency.

"We are working with Mr. Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, on digitization. Before you came into office, there were a few things attempted in identity management. But they have been very scattered. There have been multiple identification systems.

"Now, there is a plan to take that technology called MOSIP and use it for this identification platform so that people can get digital benefits. We are providing support for that, and we can provide more support.

"With MOSIP ID, there is potential application in all government payment programmes. It helps with payment efficiency and bank accounts, and eventually, when everyone is using that, it makes tax collection easier. That benefit will take a few years. However, there will be more bank accounts, more financial inclusion, and effective government payment programmes," the former Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft said.

Mr. Gates said Nigeria has the capacity to manage this system and related-technological systems as the nation brims with talented youths.

"The last time I went to the Microsoft office in Lagos, I saw the amazing work that they were doing and how they were growing their operations. So, you have a lot of Nigerian talents to manage these systems," he said.

The businessman also spoke about some high-yield seeds and a variety of crops with the potential for improved productivity and nutrition in all regions of the country.

He said countries like the United States and Brazil have been using these seeds and that they have been tested and certified as safe.

"There is no safety issue with these seeds. Supporting the Minister of Agriculture's effort in this regard is something that we feel is important and worth supporting," Mr. Gates added.

Responding to Mr. Gates' submission, President Tinubu said: "We will look at this and work on it further. I am proud of Nigeria's youths. They are very excited and creative with technology. They encourage us as we continue to press our reform efforts forward for their future prosperity. This is Nigeria's time to become what it ought to be."

The shepherd of CCC International Headquarters, Ketu, Lagos, while defending his late father’s large family declared that no prophets in the Bible had one wife.

“Can I tell you something… (sic)? You see, in that scripture, Paul was only advising. Tell me in the Bible, which prophet of God had only one wife? Do your research and tell me,”

🛑BENIN TRADITIONAL COUNCIL SUSPENDS FIVE CHIEFS FOR VISITING THE OONI OF IFE.

🛑Five Benin traditional functionaries in Edo State have been suspended from their roles for engaging in sacrilegious conduct against Benin Custom.

🛑The Benin Traditional Council announced their suspension in a statement signed by the Iyase of Benin, Chief Sam Igbe on Saturday.

🛑The statement said the affected functionaries visited the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, where they falsely claimed to be emissaries of the Oba of Benin and rendered inaccurate and disjointed account of the connection between the Benin Royal Dynasty and the Ooni-ship of Ife.

🛑“In the said clip, the individuals who have been identified as Johnbull Igbinosun, Iduhonre (Ihogbe), S.E. Aigbiremwen, Efesieoghoba (Ogbelaka) and two other Ogbelaka functionaries identified as Ogbeide Osagie and Osamudiame Edo were in the presence of the Ooni of Ife, falsely claiming to be emissaries of the Omo N’ObaN’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare Il, Oba of Benin.

🛑These individuals not only declared themselves subjects of the Ooni but also rendered inaccurate and disjointed accounts of the connection between the Benin Royal Dynasty and the Ooni-ship of Ife.

🛑The Council further described the conduct of these functionaries as “inappropriate, sacrilegious, and calculated to ridicule traditional history and to bring disrepute to Benin custom.”

🛑“Consequently, on the authority of the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare Il, Oba of Benin the Prescribed Authority over Benin Custom, the BTC hereby announces the suspension of the individuals mentioned above from their role as Benin traditional functionaries.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has expressed his concern about the growing prevalence of ethnic and religious prejudices in Nigerian universities, especially in the northern region of the country.

He said: “A mosque was constructed at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I delivered a convocation lecture in Calabar three weeks ago. After my lecture, the Chief Imam of the University came to congratulate me.

“But as I speak to you, Usman Dan Fodio, who is over 40 years old, Bayero University, and other universities in Northern Nigeria have decided to close their doors to the possibility of churches being built in the universities across this country.

Few days ago, the ebullient and hardworking Rivers State CP Tunji Disu visited DCP Dame Stella Obuoforibo Okuyiga (Rtd; 94 year old female Police veteran who historically was one of the first twenty female officers enlisted in 1955.

This unique and singular act of CP Disu has been commended in several quarters as been the first time a senior officer would visit Mama. Highly placed sources within the Police hierarchy opined that her case was equally unique because she was a victim of professional competence in which case she was forced out of service because she arrested a then serving Judge who broke traffic laws and insisted he must be prosecuted. This amazon stood her ground even when the then Supreme Military Council under General Olusegun Obasanjo intervened with a threat of dismissal. When the SMC decided she should be dismissed without benefits, the then IGP; Adamu Suleiman pleaded for her and thus she was asked to resign so as to save her years of meritorious service to fatherland which she promptly did.

I wonder why this very incorruptible woman of valour and strength hasn't been duly recognised and celebrated in our country??

OVER 100 INMATES ESCAPED AS HEAVY RAINFALL DESTROY PRISON FENCE AT SULEJA.

119 prisoners have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Suleja, Niger State.

The runaway prisoners are reported to have escaped through a section of the prison wall that collapsed last night under heavy rainfall.

The authorities have responded with the deployment of security operatives around Suleja, particularly along Minna-Suleja and Suleja-Kaduna roads, as well as Madalla axis of Abuja road.
