In a swift response to the su***de bombings in Gwoza area of Borno State on Saturday, Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday paid a condolence visit to the victims and families of those who lost their lives in the gory attacks.
He described the incident as pathetic, even as he quoted the late Dele Giwa saying, "One life lost in cold blood is as gruesome as millions lost in cold blood."
Speaking with journalists immediately after meeting and commiserating with victims of the attack at the State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, Senator Shettima conveyed the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Borno State government and the people of Gwoza.
The Vice President who made a personal donation to all the victims of the attacks and condoled with the families of those killed by the multiple explosions, saying the heart of the President is with them.
"The heart of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is with the victims and he specifically instructed us to come and offer our condolences and commiserations to the victims of this incident.
"We are here with the Director General of NEMA, with the Minister of Agriculture, with the Minister of Transportation and, of course, the Chief Whip of the Senate, a son of the soil from Gwoza, who was here since yesterday (Sunday), and the Acting Governor. They have been working round the clock to provide succor and support to the victims," VP Shettima stated.

Zamfara State Government rejects new Federal Permanent Secretary (Dr. Keshinro Maryam Ismaila) appointed by President Tinubu, says Mrs. Ismaila is not an indigene of Zamfara and cannot legally represent the people of the state, hence, must be dropped.
Even though the Zamfara State government claimed that Mrs Ismaila is not from the state, it was reported that she is from Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
Both her grandparents were born to a popular Christian family in Tsafe town and her father is a respected Ecwa pastor.
Residents said the Keshinro appearing in her name is her husband’s name, who is a Yoruba man.
However a Tinubu’s appointment of Maryam from Zamfara as permanent secretary was rejected by the state government because her father was a pastor. Simple!” one of the sources said.
It was announced yesterday that President Bola Tinubu had approved the appointment of eight new Federal Permanent Secretaries to fill in existing and impending vacancies of some states and geo-political zones in the top administrative cadre of the Civil Service of the Federation.

🛑'IPOB Can’t Win Referendum, Igbos Prefer Nigeria To Biafra' – Arewa Youths Leader:
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has declared that the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafrap (IPOB) will lose if a referendum to decide Biafra is conducted.
AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima, explained that Igbos prefer to remain as Nigerians rather than secede to form the sovereign state of Biafra.
Speaking with journalists , Shettima however, acknowledged that just like Nnamdi Kanu, some Igbos are agitating for fairness, equity, and justice.
According to Shettima: “As a Nigerian, I know that IPOB can’t win a referendum today because an average Igbo man wants to remain a Nigerian. All they are demanding is justice, equity, and fair play.
“If there is a referendum within the Southeast, I’m sure they will lose because the majority of Igbos want to be Nigerians, apart from a few individuals who are agitating for reasons best known to them.
“I won’t tell you that most Igbos believe in the agitation, but out of fear, they won’t speak out; they are scared. They are afraid of certain people.
“I can tell you that if there is a referendum today, the Biafran voice will be heard, but the majority will have their way at the end of the day.”

🛑NIGERIAN POLICE OFFICER REJECTS 150 MILLION NAIRA BRIBE :
A Superintendent of Police, Ibrahim Sini, has said he turned down a N150m bribe allegedly offered to him by a Lagos-based businessman, Akintoye Akindele to have peace of mind.
Akindele, who was arraigned for the offence at the Federal High Court in Abuja in August 2023, was remanded in the Kuje correctional centre.
According to the charge sheet, the bribe was offered to allow police to permit him to escape abroad and to write a favourable report for him after the investigation.
Sini was said to have led the Inspector General of Police’s team of investigators handling the case against the businessman.
Speaking at a dinner organised to honour him on Friday in Abuja, Sini said, “I am very happy to be here, and I want to appreciate the organisers of this programme. They have beat my imagination, and they have added more grease to my elbow. Yes, I remember when the incident happened. The person in question asked me, ‘Do you want to be rich?’ He said, ‘This is an opportunity for you to be rich’
“So what I said was that it depends on the kind of riches. I would like to have money so that I can lay my head down and sleep at night. I don’t want to have something that will make me think twice and be running from one hole to another. So I would like to do justice and have peace of mind.
“So, I decided to do the right thing so that I can have peace of mind and also stand to do what is right for myself, for my organisation, that is, the Nigeria Police and also for the country at large.”
He advised youths in the country not to trade their integrity for anything.

A female su***de bomber detonates an IED at a wedding venue in Gwoza town, Borno State, killing several wedding guests and injuring many others.
According to a survivor, the woman bomber was carrying a baby on her back when she stormed the venue and detonated the IED.
The wedding was held at Tashan Mararaba near the Fire Service in Gwoza town.

Gide has instructed farmers to return to their fields without fear of abduction.
Dogo Gide, allegedly involved in the abduction of students from a public school in Kuriga, Kaduna State, was reportedly wounded by troops of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) on March 12 in Madada forest, Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, five days after the Kuriga abductions.
Following his encounter with the military, Gide relocated to Kizara, a community on the eastern fringe of Magami, and assumed control of the area.
“Residents are celebrating because abduction for ransom and killings have stopped in the village where he resides,Farm fields that were abandoned for over four years for fear of kidnapping have been cultivated this year after Dogo Gide’s directive,” the source added.
