It’s time to stop trying to be a writer

Don’t worry, no writer was harmed in this content.

I know this may sound like, “what the heck is she talking about?”

Well, I’ve been a writer for over 15 years and a professional content writer for over 7 years, and one thing I can tell you about us as writers is that we are always trying to impress.

You are creating content for a business owner and you want to create content that will impress them and have them keep you on a retainer or hire you again and again.

So, you find out that we are always polishing our words and ensuring that all grammar and optimization rules are obeyed.

But thankfully, you are not a writer (or are you?), so why are you trying to be one? Why are you struggling with polishing words and making them “impress” the people reading them?

Just stop.

Instead of trying to be a writer, communicate.

There’s a shift your content gets when your heart is in what you share. It may not come with the best grammar. It may not follow all the social media rules. But the people whom you have in your heart while creating the content will get it because you are communicating with them. They will see what you are sharing with them, and they will connect.

In the world of today, we go heart first.

Do you understand?

I wouldn’t call myself a perfectionist but one thing I am is that I am the biggest critic of myself.

Before I put anything out, I would always ask myself, “what if people do not like it?” And when I do this, I end up not doing that.

But I was terribly hurting myself and my business because no one knows you for what is in your head, people only know you for what you share and put out in the public.

Would you always get it right 100% all the time? Nope. But how do you know what to change and what to keep? How do you know what will work and what will not work? How do you know where exactly your strength lies.

When I got on Fiverr, I thought my best selling gig would be my blog/article writing gig because that’s where I have really honed my strength in. Imagine my shock when my Email Copywriting gig was the one getting all the attention and I even got retainer clients on.

So, here’s a reminder for you to keep putting things out. You never really know which would catch on and make all the difference.

Have yourself a great week ahead.

Have you created your content strategy for February?

If you are someone who always finds themselves in a rut when it has to do with content creation, then you are missing this one vital part of the content creation journey - creating a content strategy.

Here’s what a content strategy does for you:
- Helps you decide which of your products you should market in a month
- Helps you break down the topics you should focus on in that month
- Helps you decide on which days of the week you should share your posts
- Helps you decide how many pieces of content should be educating, entertaining, promotional or just showing your good self
- Helps you decide the formats of the posts you should share in the month
- Makes content calendar creation a breeze

So, have you created your content strategy for February yet or you are waiting for the end of the first week to do it?

Let’s jump on a call and discuss your February content strategy.

The past one week was one really stretching week for me. In fact, I almost thee in the towel on some business decisions.

Thankfully, I had a session with my coach on Saturday that rekindled the fire in me again and helped me put things in perspective once more.

So, here’s me reminding you that if it doesn’t stretch you, it wouldn’t transform you.

Keep at it. Keep moving. You will have yourself to thank afterwards.
