PROTESTERS STORM NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, DEMAND FCT MINISTER WIKE'S RESIGNATION

A coalition of over 10,000 indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and civil society groups descended on the National Assembly on Wednesday, clamouring for the resignation of Nyesom Wike, the current FCT Minister.

The protest, organized by the Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability, cited Wike’s alleged incompetence and lack of vision for the capital city as the primary reasons for their demand.

The crowd, described as the largest in the history of FCT protests, carried placards and banners expressing their dissatisfaction with Wike’s leadership.

Addressing the gathering, the group’s convener, Adamu Kabir Matazu, characterised the former Rivers State governor as callous, indecorous, uncouth, greedy, and selfish.

Matazu stated their concerns about the direction of the FCT under Wike’s administration, claiming that his actions have not only undermined President Tinubu’s agenda but also cast doubt on the credibility of the federal government.

“We are here today to demand the immediate resignation or sack of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the FCT due to his deficiency in character required for his office and in a government that promises to renew the hope of Nigerians,” he stated.

The convener accused Wike of being a difficult person for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and urged the Federal Government to remove him from office.

The protesters expressed dissatisfaction with Wike’s alleged land grabbing, cronyism, and high-handedness in land policies, which they claim reek of corruption.

The clash between Wike and the governor of Rivers State was cited as an example of the minister’s involvement in dirty politics.

The Network of Civil Society for Economic Sustainability called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action against Wike.

Matazu stated: “It is in the best interest of our nation that Mr Wike’s disruptive tendencies are addressed promptly to safeguard the integrity of this administration and ensure that the objectives set for the FCT are pursued diligently and without distractions.”

The Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability vowed to continue advocating for accountable and responsible governance, emphasising the need for leaders who prioritise public interest over personal agendas.

REPS ISSUE WARRANT OF ARREST ON CBN GOVERNOR,AGF,OTHERS

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has issued a warrant of the arrest on the Central Bank Governor, Mr Olayemi Cardoso, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs Oluwatoyin Madein and 17 others for refusing to appear before it to answer questions on their operations.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Rep Fred Agbedi (PDP-Bayelsa) at the committee’s hearing on Tuesday.

Moving the motion, Agbedi said that the arrest warrant had become inevitable following the attitude of the invitees.

He said that the parliament worked with time and the CEOs had been invited four times, but failed to respond.

He said that the CEOs should be brought to appear before the committee by the Inspector General of Police through a warrant of arrest after due diligence by the Speaker, Rep Tajudeen Abbas.

In his ruling, the Chairman of the Committee, Rep Micheal Irom (APC-Cross River), said that the IG should ensure the CEOs were brought before the committee on December 14.

Earlier, the petitioner, Mr Fidelis Uzowanem, said that the petition was anchored on the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) report of 2021.

“We took up the challenge to examine the report and discovered that what NEITI put together is a report is only consolidation of fraud that has been going on in the oil and gas industry.

“It dates back to 2016 because was have been following and we put up a petition to this committee to examine what has happened.

“The 2024 budget of 27.5 trillion that has been proposed can be confidently funded from the recoverable amount that we identified in the NEITI report.

“It is basically a concealment of illegal transactions that took place in NNPCL; they have been in a sink with some oil companies where some companies that did not produce crude were paid cash core, an amount paid for crude oil production,” he said.

BOKO HARAM: COURT SENTENCES FOUR TO JAIL FOR FINANCING TERRORISTS

The Federal Government of Nigeria has secured the conviction of four Boko Haram financiers.

The Boko Haram financiers are Zana Zarama, Modu Aisami, Umar Mohammed and Bunu Kame.

They were convicted and handed prison terms on Monday, after they pleaded guilty to charges that Federal Government preferred against them during a special trial the Federal High Court held at Dawaki in Abuja.

While the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, led the Federal Government’s legal team, the defence counsel was led by the Director, Criminal Justice Department at the Legal Aid Council (LAC), F A Bakre.

The defendants, who were docked before Justice Binta Nyako and Justice Emeka Nwite, pleaded for leniency after the charges were separately read to them.

According to the charge filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, DPPF, Mr. M. B. Abubakar, one of the defendants, Aisami, provided funds for the terrorist group by buying food products from them.

Aisami was accused to have reasonably known that proceeds from the transactions would be used to commit terrorist act.

He committed an offence contrary to Section 13(1)(a)(ii) of the Terrorism Provision Amendment Act, 2013.

However, delivering her verdict after the defendant admitted that he was guilty of the allegation, trial Justice Nyako convicted him on counts 2 and 3 of the charge.

“I find him guilty as charged and he is convicted accordingly,” She held.

“I hereby sentence the convict to 20 years imprisonment for each of the offence. They are to run concurrently.”

GUNMEN HIJACK BULLION VAN IN OGUN, KILL GOVT HOUSE DIRECTOR

Hooded gunmen, on Wednesday, killed the Director of Finance to the Ogun State governor’s office, Taiwo Oyekanmi.

Journalists gathered that the accountant was waylaid and shot dead on the popular Kuto Bridge in Abeokuta, less than three kilometres from a bank where he had withdrawn a large sum of money for government use.

The unknown amount was also taken away by the gunmen.

Sources from the government office hinted our correspondent that Oyekanmi was gruesomely killed a few days after he celebrated his birthday.

The sources further told Journalists that Oyekanmi was rushed to the state hospital, in Ijaye area of Abeokuta, where he breathed his last.

It was further gathered that the news of his demise has been broken to his family and the Secretary to the State government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, as at the time of filing this report, was with the family of the deceased paying his condolence.

When contacted, spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident but insisted that nobody died at the scene.

But when the commissioner of police, Abiodun Alamutu, was called, he confirmed the incident and also admitted that Oyekanmi was killed.

The police boss said, “This afternoon, the accountant, the Director of Finance, with the driver and one other person left for a bank to make some withdrawal.

POCHETTINO PUTS UP FIVE CHELSEA PLAYERS FOR SALE

Chelsea are reportedly planning a one-in-one-out transfer policy when the transfer window opens in January, according to Journalists.

This is in a bid to avoid a repeat of the issues that eventually cost Graham Potter his job.

When Potter was in charge at the start of this year, the Blues made six signings during the winter window.

Only Jorginho, who joined Arsenal, left the first-team squad and it led to a bloated squad, with big-name players regularly omitted from matchday squads.

There were also stories of players having to get dressed in corridors at the training ground because the dressing rooms were too small.

Now, in an effort to avoid the same fate falling on Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea are planning to tighten up their transfer strategy this time around.

Centre-backs Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah are both reportedly up for sale, as is Ian Maatsen, the left-back who rejected a switch to newly promoted Burnley during the summer.

Armando Broja and Noni Madueke may also seek new challenges elsewhere.

‘YOU WILL BE KILLED IF YOU COME TO CAMEROON' - AMBAZONIAN FIGHTERS WARN OKOCHA,AMOKACHI AGAINST ETO'O'S INVITATION

Nigeria’s football stars invited by the President of Cameroonian Football Association, Samuel Eto’o for a ceremonial tournament holding in Victoria City, Cameroon, on Thursday 30 November 2023 will be killed if they honour the invitation, a separatist group has warned.

The warning was issued in a voice message sent to Journalists by one Comrade Chris Anon who claimed to be head of the Ambazonia Interim Government based in the United States of America.

Eto’o invited international football stars including those in Nigeria to the tournament to promote relationships and football development in Cameroon.

The Restoration Fighters of the Ambazonia Interim Government, who are agitating for the independence of Southwest Cameroon, warned Nigeria’s former national football skipper, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi and other ex-Super Eagles stars not to honour Eto’o’s invitation.

They emphasized that their security will not be guaranteed if they ignore the warning.

Anon described the tournament as a mockery of the Ambazonian people.

The separatist group has ordered a total lockdown on Victoria City and entire Fago County on the said Thursday 30 November 2023.

The group warned residents to stay indoors, stressing that violation of the order would be met with death.

Parts of the voice message stated, “The Restoration Fighters of Ambazonia Control Victoria and entire county and are committed to ensuring the lockdown. Our determination to safeguarding the integrity of Ambazonia independence struggle will not be deterred. We show no mercy for any persons who attempt to disregard the lockdown.

“It is essential to emphasise the severity of the situation and to caution against actions that could be misconstrued as aligning with any forms of propaganda.

“The football match proposed by Samuel Eto’o is very controversial; it is a misguided and insensitive initiative.

“That decision to involve international players from Nigeria is deeply troubling.

“The timing and location of the tournament give rise to suspicions.

“We seriously and strongly caution Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi and others who are promoting and preparing to participate in the tournament to reconsider their involvement as their participation may unintentionally result in bloodshed.

“We cannot help but question Samuel Eto’o’s decision to organize this tournament in Victoria, an Ambazonia territory that has been marred by war for over seven years, for which 30,000 Ambazonians have been killed.

“It raises legitimate concerns about potential exploitation of the situation for purposes that are not in the best interests of Victoria and Ambazonia in general.”

2026 WCQ: WHY NIGERIA FAILED TO BEAT ZIMBABWE - SUPER EAGLES COACH, PESEIRO

Head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro has explained why his team failed to beat Zimbabwe during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

Peseiro watched as goals from Walter Musona and Kelechi Iheanacho ensured Zimbabwe and Nigeria drew 1-1 at Huye Stadium in Rwanda.

The result against Zimbabwe means the Super Eagles have now failed to win their first two games in the World Cup qualifying series, having drawn 1-1 with Lesotho a few days ago.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, Peseiro said the long travels played a part in the result.

According to Peseiro, “It was a tough, difficult trip from Nigeria in the flight, many hours, the players didn’t rest enough for quick play at the same level.”

He added, “First half, very bad, second half, much better.”

COURT REMANDS SUSPECTED KILLERS OF HOTEL MANAGER IN CORRECTIONAL FACILITY ON KWARA STATE

A Kwara Magistrate Court has ordered the two suspected female armed robbers who allegedly killed the managing director of a popular relaxation home, Water View Hotel, in Ilorin, one Adeniyi Ojo, to be remanded in the correctional facility, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The suspects; Joy Adanma Joseph, 21, and her friend, David Favour Oreoluwa, 23, were dragged before Magistrate Monisola Kamson for culpable homicide and armed robbery.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the suspects paid the MD visit and they went into the hotel room together.

According to the police report, the ladies dashed of the facility without the MD, pretending they wanted to get bullet drinks from the garden across the hotel.

The hotel receptionist, Abdulsalam Tawakalitu who was suspicious of them, went to check the MD in the room and discovered the door was locked up on the MD.

After several unanswered knocks, the door was forcefully opened and the lifeless body of the manager was found on the bed with his hands, and legs tied, and his mouth gagged with a rag.

The two suspects reportedly went with the deceased mobile phone, removed the SIM card, inserted it in theirs and started making several attempts to transfer money from the MD bank account but failed because the account kept on demanding for OTP (One Time Passport).

Investigation further revealed that Joy who was armed with a knife, codoline syrup, rohypnol drug meant for sleep induction, gagged the deceased’s mouth.

While the deceased hands and legs were tied, Adanma held his manhood, threatening to cut it off if he failed to corporate.

Oreoluwa was reportedly saddled with the task of unlocking his phone through his face and afterward, she placed a pillow over his face and impressed it on him until he passed out.

The police report added that Adanma confessed to having stabbed the deceased with a knife while Oreoluwa was saddled with the task of getting the phone unlocked through the deceased face.

NLC STRIKE MISPLACED - OSHIOMHOLE

Former Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticised the strike action being implemented by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, saying their priority should have been centred on state governments not currently paying the national minimum wage of N30,000.

Oshiomhole, who met with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to congratulate him on the party’s victory in Kogi and Imo states, insinuated that the strike by the Joe Ajaero-led leadership was misplaced.

He said that as labour leaders, nothing stops them from holding political opinions but must draw the line when such opinions appear to be impeding their primary responsibilities.

Oshiomhole, who currently serves as a senator in the 10th National Assembly also carpeted analysts who speculated doom for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo State, describing them mostly as arm-chair critics.

Oshiomhole’s reactions came on the heels of a current nationwide industrial action by the organised labour which has seen social and economic activities partially paralysed.

His words: “As a worker in the Senate, I don’t pretend over the fact that my first constituency, my permanent constituency, is labour. I can be removed as chairman of APC as I was removed. But I couldn’t have been removed as a labourer. I remain labour in heart and labour in views, and labour in my aspirations.

“I will expect that even as we speak now, the issue that will appeal to me will be the fact that, as we speak, we have states that are not paying N30,000. And those states are not being mobilised to go on strike.

The federal government had granted a N35,000 increase. Those discussions were supposed to be for and on behalf of not only the federal government but on behalf of all workers in Nigeria, including those employed by local governments and state governments.

on behalf of all workers in Nigeria, including those employed by local governments and state governments.

“The additional revenue accruing from the withdrawal of subsidy trickles down to the state and to the local government. Now, I would have wished that somebody at the NLC recognised that the hunger in the stomachs of federal employees is not any worse than the hunger in the stomachs of those state employees or local government employees.

“If these are the issues on the table, even as a senator, I will publicly support action against any government that thinks that we should lament away our hunger while the people do what they do.

Unfortunately, this strike is not about those issues. And I think we have to be careful not to mix our political opinion with our responsibilities because the issues confronting workers are so many that they should become the priority.”

MESSI WINS ANOTHER AWARD AFTER CLAIMING EIGHT BALLON D'OR

Lionel Messi has been handed Inter Miami’s MVP award for the 2023 season.

The MLS club confirmed this on their official website on Sunday.

Messi only joined the club in June after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired.

The 36-year-old has contributed 11 goals and eight assists in his first 14 matches for the club, as he inspired them to their first trophy in the form of the inaugural Leagues Cup.

He was however not able to lift them to the MLS playoffs.

Messi follows in the footsteps of Gonzalo Higuain and Lewis Morgan, who have won the Miami award in the past.

The announcement comes days after the Argentina captain secured a remarkable eighth Ballon d’Or.

MY CONDITION IS GETTING WORSE - TRANSGENDER JAY BOOGIE CRIES OVER FAILED BBL

Popular Nigerian transgender and fashion enthusiast Daniel Anthony Nsikan, known as Jay Boogie, has cried out for help over the impact of his botched Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).

Journalists reports that Jay Boogie urged the public a week ago, in a series of posts on Instagram, to hold a surgeon identified as Dinma of Curvy Girl Essentials Clinic responsible if anything happens to him.

However, on Thursday, during an Instagram live session with a Nigerian doctor based in Namibia, Loveth Jennifer, the transgender lamented that he is bankrupt and struggling to stay alive following kidney damage sustained during the surgery.

"Nobody is donating funds anymore; my condition is getting worse, and all my life savings have been going on dialysis and diapers,” he said.

“I pray it doesn’t take my life. My career has been messed up. How do I take care of my siblings?”

Also, in a statement on his page on Friday, he appealed to the public for donations to help him pay medical bills.

The post reads: “Ever since 1st of November I have been on dialysis and treatment of sepsis. I have exhausted my life savings in this course of treatment. I have received funds from the Nigerian plastic surgery community and few friends. I am writing to request financial assistance for continuous medical treatment in order to recover.”

PANDEMONIUM IN ABUJA AS 'NAVAL PERSONNEL' ALLEGEDLY SHOOT AT GOVERNOR YAHAYA BELLO'S CONVOY; 2 GOV'S AIDES,4 SOLDIERS INJURED

There was pandemonium in the Abaji area of Abuja as naval personnel allegedly shot two aides of Governor Yahaya Bello during a confrontation.

Sources told Journalists that the governor's convoy was going from Kogi to Abuja when it reportedly refused to stop at a naval checkpoint in the Banda area of Lokoja, the state capital.

According to the sources, the soldiers reportedly informed their personnel at Abaji to block the convoy when it got there.

One of the sources said, "Yahaya Bello's convoy rudely smashed a naval checkpoint in Banda in Lokoja, so the naval personnel now informed people in Abaji and they now blocked them.

"They even shot two of the governor's men. So it has been a pandemonium in that location since."

Another source said that the incident occurred at the 176 Guard Brigade checkpoint.

"During the confrontation, four soldiers were wounded by the governor’s gunmen. The checkpoint has always been there but the governor refused to stop. Two persons in the governor’s convoy were wounded," the source said.

According to the source, the soldiers were part of the guard brigade protecting the Presidential Villa.

Reacting to the incident in a statement, the state government said it was an attempt to assassinate that was foiled by Governor Bello’s security details.

A statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, said, "The Kogi State Government wishes to inform the general public that there was an assassination attempt on the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, a few kilometres away from Abuja, on his way to an official engagement from Lokoka. The attack occurred at about 4 pm on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

“The attackers who were dressed in military uniforms waylaid the Governor’s convoy and started shooting sporadically at his vehicle and other vehicles in the convoy.

It took the swift intervention of the security personnel attached to the Governor to foil the satanic plans of the unknown soldiers. The attacks were at three different points, the last barricade being around Kwali Federal Capital Territory at about 4.20pm.

“The report of these strange attacks has been properly documented at security offices in the state and at the national level for prompt and thorough investigations to avert future occurrences.

“We are not oblivious of the fact that certain elements are bent on painting Kogi unsafe ahead of the Governorship Poll slated for November 11, 2023. As an administration, we will spare nothing to ensure our citizens are not subjected to security threats by desperate politicians sponsoring violence and terrorism.

“We call on the citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements in the domain to relevant security agencies. It is the responsibility of the Government to ensure security and we want to assure you that the peace we have enjoyed as a state in the last eight years won’t be lost on the altar of violent politics.”

NIGERIAN MAN HANGS SELF OVER 'RISING COST OF LIVING' IN ADAMAWA STATE

A Nigerian man, Mohammed Umar, who reportedly could no longer fend for his family owing to the prevailing hash economy, has taken his life in Adamawa State.

Umar's body was found dangling in a solitary place around Rumde-Baru neighbourhood of Yola, the state capital on Saturday.

A resident of the area, who simply identified himself as Ali, told Journalists that the deceased, who was married with children, might have resorted to su***de due to the harsh economic situation in the country.

Umar, a devout Muslim, was sighted at the mosque during the early morning prayer on Saturday before his lifeless body was later found, according to Ali.

Ali said, "A very social person suddenly became reserved, about two weeks after the fuel subsidy was removed.

"Tell me, if a man couldn't provide food for his family, couldn't pay school fees for the kids and other family bills, what happens; he may be tempted to do exactly what this man did.

“You will wake up every morning with no certainty of what to eat or where to go and get daily bread for survival. If you notice, people are becoming beggars with no shame – people you don’t expect to see them begging.

“It is clear the country is turning into something else and going through an economic crisis. As it is now invariably there is no food for the masses, even me that I'm talking to you I can’t guarantee my family the next meal.

“The difference between me and the deceased maybe because I can endure pressure. Honestly, Nigeria’s economy is seriously derailing. There is no hope for the common man. If you think there is no hope for you, the next thing to do is to hang yourself.”

“If things will go the way I’m seeing, expect more stories to write on deaths by hanging being committed around by many,” he added.

Another resident of the area, Mallam Usman Dan Bature, described the deceased as a kind person, saying, "He was a responsible householder who took proper care of his family.

"Until his demise, he was the manager of A.H.A Block Industry situated along Army Barracks Road, Jimeta."

The wife of the deceased, Khadijah Umar, explained that they have been living peacefully and had no idea why her husband took his life.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje who confirmed the incident in a statement, said, "Investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances behind the crime.”

“Following the report received on the incident of a young man that hanged himself around Rumde Baru, Yola North local Government Area, the command’s crime officers were deployed by the Commissioner of Police; they're now working in collaboration with medical experts to investigate the circumstances leading to the commission of the act,” Nguroje added.
