2023: Northern Christian Clerics Ask Shettima To Step Down As Tinubu’s Running Mate
Northern christian clerics and leaders of different support groups within the All Progressives Congress (APC) have asked the party to prevail on Senator Kashim Shettima to withdraw as Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s running mate.

They also warned that if their demand was not met before the end of the window period for withdrawal of candidates as stipulated in the Electoral Act (2022 as amended), i.e., 90 days to the election, the APC should be ready to lose the support of their millions of supporters in the north.

The clerics and heads of the APC groups met yesterday in Abuja. They warned that they would withdraw the support of millions of followers across the country should the ruling party proceed with Kassim Shettima as Bola Tinubu’s running mate.

They made their displeasure known in a communique issued at the end of the meeting to review the participation of Christians in the APC Presidential Campaign Council, PCC.

The communique, jointly signed by Pst. Dauda Yakubu, Pst.
Yuguda Augustine, Lucas Bako, Deaconess Jessica Nuhu, Elder Williams Unogwu, Dr. Theodore Uji, Pst. Ambas Kelvin, Mr. Haruna Vincent, and Bish Emeka lamented the neglect of Christians.

It stated that fielding the same faith ticket in an election was, by all standards, a national threat that must not be allowed to stand.
The communique read: “Nigeria has already had enough insecurity and challenges, and contributing to further insecurity and challenges in the country should bother every well-meaning and concerned Nigerian.

“We understand that the argument against substituting the Muslim Vice Presidential candidate of the APC with a Northern Christian is based on its proponents because it is no longer possible. Still, we beg to differ by stating categorically that it is possible and that APC can make the change if it has the interest of Nigeria at heart.

“To address this, a few steps must be taken, which in isolation or collectively will bring about the APC not fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket, but a Muslim-Christian ticket which, of course, should be the standard.

“The leadership of the APC should ensure the vice presidential candidate nominee resigns with immediate effect. As clearly stated in the new electoral amendment law, he should be made to officially write to INEC to notify them of his withdrawal from the race.”

Climate Change: Buhari Failed On Flooding, Nigerians Should Shun Unserious Leaders – Atiku
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has advised Nigerians to elect leaders who are passionate about climate change.

The former vice president gave the counsel after his visit to Bayelsa where severe flooding has damaged lives, livelihoods and property.

Atiku promised to retool disaster awareness apparatus, such as Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NHSA), to better forecast and provide warning signals.

The PDP flagbearer also hinted that the Nigerian Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) should be reformed for adequate preparation and response.

Atiku said attention would be given to the Dasin-Hausa Dam in Adamawa State to manage the release of excess water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
The candidate stressed the need to dredge rivers and estuaries through which inland waters empty into the sea to stem flooding in the Niger Delta.

“If we get our politics wrong by electing leaders who choose to play politics with climate change, and refuse to make necessary investments in smart solutions, we will be living in the relics of times past, unmindful of our attendant vulnerabilities,” he said.

Atiku accused the President Muhammadu Buhari administration of not showing leadership and empathy in the management of the disastrous 2022 flooding.

He added that climate change is real and charged governments at all levels to activate measures to forestall expected food shortages and high cost of food.

The ex-VP, however, made a plea for the establishment of a temporary fund for farmers to ameliorate their losses and give them capital for the 2023 planting season.

Aisha Yesufu To Nigerians: If Votes Don’t Count, Politicians Won’t Pay For It
Aisha Yesufu, activist and founder of Citizens Hub, has opined that Nigerians should do away with the mentality that votes do not count.

Yesufu spoke on Thursday when she appeared on Dialogue titled ‘Cash or Ballot: What should be the currency of democracy?’

The activist said Nigerians must leverage their voting power to bring about meaningful change.

Yesufu said if votes do not count as claimed, politicians would not pay for it.

She said citizens should take charge of the electoral process and wield the power of their votes to w**d out bad behaviour.

“Citizens need to take charge of the electoral process. What we’ve had over time is that it’s the political class that has dictated. There is apathy, people are not interested and that’s why you’d often hear people say their votes don’t count but this is a conversation that is no longer on the table, people have realised that indeed their votes count because if votes don’t count, politicians would not pay for votes,” she said.
“The first thing that needs to happen is for the citizens to understand the power they have and begin to punish bad behaviour.”

Yesufu added that citizens will set the pace for political parties to follow when they vote for the right candidates irrespective of the money less qualified candidates might have paid to obtain forms.

“Inasmuch as even the parties, when they collect as much money as they want, there’s no law that has pegged the cost of any form, so there’s nothing we can do about it but when they put candidates who do not have competence, character and capacity, candidates who simply because they have money and probably have stolen our collective wealth and use our money to buy forms, they get there,” she added.

“But by the time the citizens refuse to vote those candidates and go for where there is competence, character and capacity, irrespective of what party it is or what money they’ve paid, then the party will begin to align themselves to doing the right thing because there is no longer incentives for them to behave badly and still get away with it — but if we allow a situation where it is who has the money, not who has the competence, that gets nominated by a party, then this process will continue.”

Tinubu Is A Potential Dictator, Says Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation magazine, has stated that Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is a potential dictator.

Momodu stated this on Tuesday in an interview on Channels Television while explaining his opposition to Tinubu’s candidacy.

“He is the only governor I know who had two deputy governors and they both got into trouble,” Momodu said.
“I’m inferring dictatorship nothing else. I will never support dictatorship. I suffered under dictatorship, I was in detention, and exile for three years.”

When asked if he believes Tinubu is a dictator, Momodu said: “He is a potential dictator, let me use that word.”

Keyamo To Obaseki: Linking APC To Nigeria’s Possible Breakup Shows Shallow Thinking
The presidential campaign council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has opined that Godwin Obaseki, Edo governor, exhibited “shallowness of thinking” with his recent comment on Nigeria’s possible breakup.

The council was responding to a comment credited to Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state.

Obaseki had, on Monday, stated that the country would break up if APC wins the presidential election.

In a statement on Tuesday, Festus Keyamo, spokesman of the council, said the governor’s comments show that the PDP promotes division.

“This is to our delight, but we worry that if elected, they will inflict the same divisive spirit on our country as a whole,” Keyamo said.

“It is little wonder then, that his exit from the APC to the PDP was a signal of peace within the APC and the beginning of the unending crises within the PDP.

“It reminds us of the story of the Biblical Satan whose expulsion from heaven restored peace to that realm and pronounced woe upon the earth.
“Obaseki and his cohorts, like Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, obviously sold their souls for the Biblical pot of porridge by violating the zoning principles in their own constitution, thereby causing the present implosion within their party – an implosion that he now wishes to project on the country.

“Compare that to the historical stance of the APC Northern Governors who insisted on the unity of this country by rejecting power offered to them on a platter of gold, but rather insisted on a power shift to the South to keep this country together.

“We are shocked by the shallowness of thinking, the sheer temerity, and the obfuscating arrogance that pushed Governor Obaseki to make such an outrageous comment against the APC.”

The minister said Obaseki should apologise to Nigerians for making the remark.

Kwankwaso Won’t Collapse Campaign For Anybody – Spokesperson
Ladipo Johnson, the spokesperson of the presidential campaign of Rabiu Kwankwaso has stated the former Kano State governor is not ready to step down for anybody.

He made the comment on Channels Television Sunrise Daily on Wednesday amid speculations that the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) standard bearer will collapse his campaign for another person.

“No merger talks, well it’s too late for mergers but there is no talk of collapsing the campaign, his campaign, or the NNPP campaign at any level at the moment with any of the party or any of the candidate, that is not on the card yet,” he said on the show.

“What I mean when I say not yet is that we are going all the way to February 25 next year.
“As I said, we are focused on the elections. If you have the elections and as people are realising or postulating, there might be a situation for the first time where you do not have an outright winner, then you all have to talk to each other.

“So, no one takes that off the table, but as it were for the first game, to use a football term, Senator Kwankwaso is contesting, we are going all the way, that I can tell you,” Johnson added.

He accused those who keep saying that Kwankwaso will collapse his structure for other candidates of being mischievous.

“I can tell you for certain that these rumours started months ago, so it’s not out of what they see now, it is out of mischief and we have treated this several times, and I keep saying that he has no reason to want to step down for any of the other candidates. But we will listen to any of them who think they want to work with us not us working with them.”

2023: Okowa Betrayed South, We Must Truncate His Ambition – Omo-Agege Tells Delta Residents

Ovie Omo-Agege, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Delta, has accused Ifeanyi Okowa of “betraying” the south.

Omo-Agege, deputy senate president, spoke on Monday when he inaugurated his campaign council in Asaba, Delta’s capital city.

In the build-up to the presidential primaries of political parties, governors of the southern states had said the next president of the country should come from the region.

Speaking at the event on Monday, Omo-Agege stated that Delta residents should work against Okowa, who is currently vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He hosted a meeting of southern governors here in Asaba where a resolution was taken that it was the turn for a southern president,” Omo-Agege said.

“But he turned around to betray his people. We must work to truncate his ambition. He can’t go anywhere.”
The senator also stated that there is a need for his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to take charge of Delta which is currently governed by the PDP administration of Okowa.

“All of you here are members of the campaign council. Every party member, right from the wards to the state level, is charged with delivering the party,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“So, I urge everyone here to go back home to your wards, spread the good news that the APC has come to deliver the people of Delta.

“As you vote for Omo-Agege to be your governor, don’t forget that we need our men in all positions. We must deliver our senators in the three senatorial districts.

“As you spread the message, don’t forget that as a party, we have a mandate to deliver our presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It has to be APC all the way.

“Here in Delta, 2023 is our turn. The decision has been taken and that is what I have come here today to tell you all.”

Demons In APC Have Relocated To PDP, Says Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation, has expressed that the “demons” that were in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have relocated to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In 2019, Fani-Kayode, while a PDP chieftain, described the APC as a party of darkness and demons, adding that he’s ready to oppose them all the rest of his life.

However, in 2021, the former minister joined the APC, saying he was led by the spirit of God to join the party.

Speaking on Monday in an interview with Channels Television, Fani-Kayode stated that the “APC of the past, is different from that of today”.

“The APC of the past is not the APC of today. The demons that were in the APC at that time have simply relocated and gone into the PDP,” he said.

“In the APC today, ethnicity is respected; possibly, unlike before, I’m not scared to say it. My views were my views at that time until things changed.
“New leadership came to the party — a leadership that is responsible and sensitive to the people’s feelings, led by Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe. The people came in. New governors that I happened to know very well gave me assurances and honoured every single one of them.

“A lot of people that were in the PDP, including Matawalle of Zamfara, Ayade of Cross River, Umahi of Ebonyi, and a number of other governors, including myself and so many other party leaders defected to the APC for a reason.

“And the reason was that here, the APC was responsible, responsive, and sensitive to the very things that we fear. What are those things? Ethnic domination.

“And we saw a situation where the PDP was becoming the very monster we thought the APC was. And there was a transformation. They opened up their doors. They promised a level playing field, no matter what your faith and ethnicity is, and they did precisely that.”

Any Candidate Whose Health Is Shrouded In Secrecy Shouldn’t Be Taken Seriously – Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed that a presidential candidate whose health is “shrouded in secrecy” should not be taken seriously.

Paul Ibe, Abubakar’s media adviser, spoke with TheCable on Monday, while reacting to a recent comment by Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), about his principal.

While speaking on Sunday at an interactive session with members of the Tijjaniyyah sect at the Kano government house, Tinubu said he won’t be a part-time president who will share his time between Dubai and Nigeria.

His comment was apparently directed at Abubakar who spent most of his time in Dubai after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the 2019 election.

Speaking with TheCable, Ibe said Tinubu’s comment shouldn’t be taken seriously.
“The president of Nigeria, the most populous country in the black continent is not for comedians,” he said.

“The process of selecting a president is not a jamboree so the earlier the APC puts its house together and starts by having a council in place. They shouldn’t be taken seriously because of their inability to organise.

“Nobody should take the candidate of that party (APC) seriously. No one should take a candidate and a party whose health situation, early school, and early years are all shrouded in secrecy. No one should take such a candidate seriously.”

People Steal To Buy APC Nomination Forms, Kenneth Okonkwo Claims

Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has claimed that some members of the All Progressives Congress steal public funds in order to be able to buy the party’s nomination forms to contest for political positions.

Okonkwo said this on Monday during an interview on AIT’s morning show, ‘Kakaaki.’

He went on to say that he had he had rejected the APC even before announcing his exit from the party.

Okonkwo who announced his exit from APC in July said, “I’ve already ruled out the failures of APC so I rejected APC when I was in APC. I never agreed to pay their nomination fee because I believed that it was as a result of corrupt tendencies.

“For you to tell a man to pay as nomination fee an amount that four years of his salary cannot cover and you are telling me you are fighting corruption, which corruption? Why do you think people are stealing 109billion Naira in an APC-led government, the person that is suppose to guard it, because they need to have such money because even if you want to contest, they’ll be asking you for billions to contest.

“So I rejected APC while I was in APC but you have to wait for an alternative, for another option, that will accommodate your own beliefs and remember, I resigned from APC before talking about any other party and when I saw a new Nigeria about to emerge from Labour Party, what I have prayed, what I wished for. It was only natural that I gravitate around it and that was what happened. So I was very sentimentally attached to the redemption of this country and I really thought that APC was going to provide that.

“When President Muhammadu Buhari was a military head of state, you know what happened? He was paying our debt with crude oil and people said he maintained his own salary. Look at what is happening now. He has borrowed us into bo***ge, their debt cannot even be serviced by the entire revenue.”
