Not All Partners Are Created Equal
All attorneys start their careers as associates, and many will go on to become of counsel, non-equity partners, or equity partners.
EQUITY VS NON-EQUITY PARTNERS
There are two main types of partnerships within a law firm, Equity and Non-Equity. The main difference between Equity and Non-Equity is that Equity Partners take the most risk and for doing so, get the most rewards. This typically creates a two-tier compensation system for partners.
Equity Partners, lead the firm into the future. They have full voting right which include but not limited to evaluating attorneys, firing, recruiting, and strategic direction of the firm.
Many law firms offer their attorneys Equity partnership and Non-Equity partnerships. An Equity Partner is an owner of a law firm. Looking from the outside, you may not be able to know who an Equity Partner or, who is not. Sometimes, law firms will differentiate by title (see below on firm titles and what they mean).
Non-Equity Partners do not have the same job security as Equity Partners.
Non-Equity Partners have more flexibility to where and how they want to work.
Most Non-Equity Partners receive a salary instead of partnership distributions.
Non-Equity maybe paid by W2 vs. Equity Partners are paid by a Scheduled K-1.
Both Equity and Non-Equity attorneys can receive a base salary or draw with bonus. Again, this depends on the firm.

EFCC Charges Okorocha with N2.9 billion fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged Nigerian senator and former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, with allegations he conspired with others, including an APC politician and five companies, to steal N2.9 billion from public coffers. EFCC filed the charges, totalling 17, on Monday, at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
In addition to Mr Okorocha, other defendants are Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited.
The charges were filed about the same time Mr Okorocha was declaring his intention to run for the office of the president in 2023.
Mr Okorocha, 59, was a two-term governor of Imo State, serving from 2011 to 2019 when he lost an intense political battle to instal his son-in-law and Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, as a successor. He, however, succeeded in winning the Imo West senatorial election for himself as a candidate of the APC. The returning officer alleged he was forced to declare Mr Okorocha the winner under duress, making INEC delay issuing him a certificate of return. His co-accused, Mr.Nyerere, open-source searches show, was the APC governorship candidate in the 2015 Abia State election and currently serves as a commissioner at the National Pension Commission.
Mr Nyerere features in all the 17 charges and is accused of conspiring with Mr Okorocha to steal and launder N2.9 billion belonging to Imo State and local government areas in the state in contravention of the Money Laundering Act 2011. As CAC searches by PREMIUM TIMES showed, he owns or controls three of the charged companies, namely Consolid, Pramif, and Legend World, all registered in Abuja. According to the EFCC charges, the stolen funds were diverted between October 2014 and February 2016 from the Imo State Government House account and Imo State Joint Local Government Project account.

Mercedes-Benz EQS set benchmark
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is a butler, chauffeur, and wellness guru, not just a luxury electric car
As its name suggests, the EQS 580 4MATIC has two sets of electric motors to drive both axles, with adaptive air suspension that can switch between wallowing comfort and sharp(ish) sport modes. The EQS is the most streamlined production car ever made, with a drag co-efficient of 0.20.
The maximum power output in the standard model is 385 kW, with the largest battery having a capacity of 120kWh. For comparison, the Tesla Model S Performance comes in at around 100kWh and has up to 580 kW of power. The equivalent EQS, the high-performance Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, has 560 kW.
As any EV driver knows, all this power is pretty redundant if you can’t cushion it with adequate range. Mercedes claims the EQS will go a maximum distance of 453 miles, but you can expect that to plummet if you’re making any use of ‘Sport’.

Delete or deactivate your social media account:
When you stop using a social networking profile or website, it is a good idea to deactivate or delete your account. This will mean that your content is no longer visible online and should not be searchable online. It will also remove the risk of these accounts being used by others or hacked without you knowing.
• Facebook
• Instagram
• Twitter
• Snapchat
• Tiktor

On Facebook you have the options of either deactivating or deleting your account.
If you deactivate your account:
You can reactivate it whenever you want. This will mean you can access your photos, videos, friends and groups again.
People can’t see your timeline or find your account in a search unless you reactivate the account.
Some things may remain visible (for example: private messages you have sent).
You can reactivate your account at any time by logging back into Facebook or by using your Facebook account to log in somewhere else. You’ll need to have access to the email or mobile number you use to log in to complete the reactivation.
To deactivate your account:
• Click in the top right of Facebook.
• Select Settings & Privacy > Settings.
• Click Your Facebook Information in the left column.
• Click Deactivation and Deletion.
• Choose Deactivate Account, then Continue to Account Deactivation and follow the instructions to confirm.
When Your Facebook account is deactivated, but you still have Messenger:
You can still chat with friends on Messenger.
Your Facebook profile picture will still be visible in your conversations on Messenger.
Other people can search for you to send you a message within Messanger.
If you delete your account:
You won’t be able to reactivate your account.
You will have 30 days to cancel your account deletion, after this you won’t be able to access your account or retrieve any information from it.
Your profile, photos, videos and everything else you’ve added will be permanently deleted.
You’ll no longer be able to use Facebook Messenger.
You won’t be able to use your Facebook login for other apps you may have signed up for with your Facebook account, like Spotify or Instagram. You may need to contact the apps and websites to recover those accounts.
Some information, like messages you sent to friends, may still be visible to them after you delete your account. Copies of messages you have sent are stored in your friends’ inboxes.

New Set of Billionaires to Emerge as Nigerian Government Awards Oil Fields to 20 Companies. Nigerian government conducted a bid round for 57 marginal oil fields with 30 successful companies The oil bid round was conducted by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) now Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Petroleum Commission (NURPC) 160 companies were shortlisted, but only 30 was selected and it expected at least 100 million barrels of oil will be produced. The Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Petroleum Commission (NURPC) has disclosed that at least 57 Nigerian oil and gas companies that successfully won its last marginal field bid round have paid N174.944 billion license fee. The bid which took place in 2020 and concluded in 2021 has 160 Nigerian companies vying for 57 oilfields. The last time the Nigerian government conducted such exercise was in 2003, when 24 assets were put on offer and so the rise of several oil billionaires.

House of Representatives, Wednesday approved direct and indirect primary clauses as a mode of electing candidates by political parties for general elections. This was originally the provision in the extant law, the Electoral Act of 2010 before the National Assembly in the course of tinkering with the Act expunged ‘indirect’ primary mode. Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari withheld his assent to the bill transmitted to him, citing the impracticality of the direct primary mode at this time of the nation’s history.

Alberta also recently revealed that they met their immigration quota for 2021. The federal government allocated 6,250 nominations to AINP, all of which were issued to qualifying candidates.
In all of 2020, a total of just 1,785 candidates were invited after Alberta halted these draws in the last half of the year as part of their Economic Recovery Plan. The stream resumed nominee draws in January 2021 and has been issuing invitations at a much higher rate.
Who is eligible for Alberta's Express Entry stream?
To be considered under Alberta’s Express Entry stream, candidates must have an active profile in the federal Express Entry pool with a CRS score of at least 300, and a stated interest in immigrating permanently to Alberta. Alberta does not release details on the additional criteria targeted in each Express Entry stream draw. However, they have stated that the following factors may increase a candidate’s chances:
A qualifying relative that is a permanent resident or citizen living in Alberta;
A job offer or work experience in Alberta; and
A completed credential from a Canadian post-secondary institution

How to prevent the spread of fake news and misinformation in today’s internet age.
The internet is a powerful tool for sharing news and information around the world at any time but unfortunately, it is not everything we come across online that is reliable. However, we must be mindful of the danger of spreading fake news or misleading information no matter how interesting, pathetic or shocking the story is. More importantly, we must educate ourselves about how to separate fact from fiction when we come across any information online.
What is fake news?
Fake news is a piece of false or misleading information presented as authentic news. In most cases, it has the aim of deceiving people, damaging the reputation of a person, group, organization etc or making money through advertisement.
Misinformation refers to false or out-of-context information that is presented as fact regardless of an intent to deceive. e.g. outdated information.
Deep fake technology, a new technology that uses artificial intelligence to fake videos has also contributed a lot to the prevalence of fake news and misinformation in today's internet age. With deep fake technology, it is almost impossible to differentiate between a real and a fake video.
How to prevent the spread of fake news and online misinformation:
1. Read beyond the headlines to understand the full story.
2. Do a thorough investigation on the source of the news or story.
3. Don't be too emotional when you read any story or news online.
4. Fact-check before you share any post, picture, video or link.
5. Don't believe every story you see online.
6. Be conscious of the date and time mentioned in the story or news.
7. As an internet user, educate yourself on how to prevent the spread of fake news and misinformation.
