"All the oceans you see are potential ports. So what is happening with Ibom? Look at the Port Harcourt terminal started by Shagari—it’s still not functioning as it should, just like the Warri and Calabar ports. There is a deliberate effort to keep these ports and the economy from opening up.

Are you aware that the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is the only port authority in the world with an office and a guest house in London for managing a port in Nigeria? Can you believe that? The reason for ongoing inefficiency is that some people benefit from it.

Nigeria is fortunate to have ports all over the country, but they are deliberately kept underutilized to maintain the status quo. This prevents the economy from opening up, where people’s talent and hard work could create opportunities, leaving nothing for those who thrive on confusion.

For instance, it takes three months to clear goods at Nigerian ports, whereas it takes only two days in Cotonou (Togo), and similarly in Ghana and Ivory Coast. I have traveled to Singapore and other countries specifically to study their ports and understand what works for them.

Twenty years ago, the busiest port in terms of operations was Singapore. Today, ports like Shanghai and Rotterdam have risen to prominence. These things change quickly.

We are going to dismantle this confusion and get the country to work. It’s not rocket science—managing ports is not difficult. I will bring in the private sector to build and manage ports in collaboration with the government, as is the practice worldwide. There is no reason Nigeria should not be exporting at least N300 billion worth of products.

The other candidates say I’m stingy, but they don’t understand that investments and savings are crucial for development.

Jamaican Reggae Icon Buju Banton Traces His Igbo Ancestry, Celebrates Warrior Heritage

By Igbo History

In a powerful revelation that underscores the deep historical ties between African and the Caribbean, renowned reggae singer Mark Anthony Myrie, popularly known as Buju Banton, has traced his lineage back to the Igbo people of Nigeria. The celebrated artist, who is one of the most influential figures in Jamaican music, shared that his ancestors were sold into slavery from the Igbo regions of Nigeria.

Buju Banton passionately recounted the resilience of his forebears, who, upon arriving in Jamaica, fought valiantly against British colonial forces in a conflict that spanned 40 years. This resistance, according to him, exemplifies the warrior spirit of the Igbo people—a legacy that he proudly carries within his bloodline.

As one of Jamaica’s most revered artists, Buju Banton’s acknowledgment of his Igbo roots serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring connections between Africa and the African diaspora. His story is not just one of personal heritage but also a celebration of the indomitable spirit of the Igbo people and their influence across the globe.

*NDI IGBO IBEM*

I strongly approve this message.

No free-born of Igbo should join in that useless protest.

We are bigger than wasting our time on the streets.

They built railways 🚃 all over Nigeria 🇳🇬 except in Igbo land, there was no protest.

They released all the freedoms fighters in Nigeria 🇳🇬 from all tribes except Igbo tribe. There was no protest.

They rigged an election clearly won by an Igbo man. There were no sign of protest.

They gave other regions 7 states, some 6 states, except in Igbo region where they have a paltry 5 states, no one saw reason to protest.

They employ youths from other tribes in federal ministry and parastatals, left Igbo youths to fend for themselves in ASPAMDA and OMATTA, no one saw the need to say this is not fair.

They appointed their children to judiciary as judges, no Igbo child is deems fit, yet there was no protest.

They are currently constructing 15 Trillion Naira worth of coastal road across the length and breath of Nigeria 🇳🇬, and carefully avoided Igbo land in the project, nobody saw the injustice and neglect.

Now they are ripping the dividends of democracy, they want Igbos to join them to protest.

Ibibio Tribe: Origin and History

The Ibibio people are a coastal people in southern Nigeria.

They are mostly found in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and on the Eastern Part of Abia. They are related to the Annang Igbo and Efik peoples.

During the colonial period in Nigeria, the Ibibio Union asked for recognition by the British as a sovereign nation.

The Annang, Efik, Ekid, Oron and Ibeno share personal names, culture, and traditions with the Ibibio, and speak closely related varieties (dialects) of Ibibio which are more or less mutually intelligible. The Ekpo/Ekpe society is a significant part of the Ibibio political system. They use a variety of masks to execute social control. Body art plays a major role in Ibibio art.

Origin
The Ibibio people are reputed to be the earliest inhabitants of the south eastern Nigeria. It is estimated that they arrived at their present home around 7000 B.C. In spite of the historical account, it is not clear when the Ibibio arrived at state. According to some scholars, they might have come from the central Benue valley, particularly, the Jukun influence in the old Calabar at some historical time period. Another pointer is the wide-spread use of the manila, a popular currency used by the Jukuns. Coupled with this is the Jukun southern drive to the coast which appears to have been recently compared with the formation of Akwa Ibom settlements in their present location.

Another version described that the Cameroon will offer a more concise explanation of the Ibibio migration story. This was corroborated by oral testimonies who say that the core Ibibio people were of the Afaha lineage whose original home was Usak Edet in the Cameroon. This was premised on the fact that among the Ibibio people, Usak Edet is popularly known as Edit Afaha (Afaha’s Creek) which reflects the fact that Ibibio people originated from Usak Edet. After the first bulk of the people arrived in what later became Nigeria, they settled first at Ibom then in Arochukwu. The Ibibio must have lived in Ibom for quite some time. As a result of clashes with the Igbo people, culminating in the famous ‘Ibibio War’, which took place about 1300 and 1400 A.D., they left Ibom and moved to the present day Ibibio land.
