Alleged DSS Raid: CDHR Condemns Attack On NLC Secretariat

The Committee For The Defence Of Human Rights (CDHR) has condemned the invasion of the headquarters of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja by state-backed security operatives.

In a statement issued not journalists by the Kaduna state Chairman of CDHR Comrade Ali Attahiru, said “the raid by security personnel Nigeria’s undermines workers’ rights to organise, bargain collectively and take industrial action.

The statement read in Part; "We strongly condemn the attack on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) secretariat yesterday, August 8, 2024. This brazen act of violence is unacceptable and an affront to the democratic rights of Nigerian workers"

"The NLC is a symbol of workers' resistance and a beacon of hope for the Nigerian people. Attacking its secretariat is an attempt to silence the voices of the marginalized and undermine the struggle for better working conditions, fair wages, and social justice"

"We stand in solidarity with the NLC, its leadership, and the entire Nigerian labour movement. We demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice and that measures be taken to ensure the safety and security of the NLC secretariat and its members"

"This attack will not deter us from continuing to fight for the rights and dignity of Nigerian workers. We will continue to stand together and resist any attempts to suppress our voices and undermine our collective strength" the statement concluded.

Back to Work: Head of Service Orders Immediate Resumption

The Kano State Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, has directed all civil servants working under the Kano State Government to resume work immediately, following the state government's decision to relax the curfew hours from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

A press release signed and made available by Bintu Nuhu Yakasai, Director of Public Enlightenment in the Office of the Head of Service, conveyed the message from the State Head of Service.

He earnestly appealed to all civil servants to report to their respective offices at the usual hour of 8:00 a.m. daily.

The Head of Service also reaffirmed the state government's commitment to enhancing the civil service and bettering the lives of its workers.

He emphasized the need for increased efforts to boost service delivery to the public, urging all civil servants to redouble their efforts and strive for excellence in their respective roles.

The Emir of Zazzau, HRH Ahmad Nuhu Bamali has turned a philanthropist Dr. Haruna Saleh Kargi as Turakin Mardannin Zazzau.

Dr. Saleh Kargi on a decorated horse in the midst of mammoth crowd while moving from the Emir Palace to his family house in Zaria shortly after he was turbaned on Friday August 2nd, 2024.

The Emir bestowed the traditional titles on Dr. Haruna Saleh Kargi on Friday after Performing Juma'at prayer in his palace, Zaria, Kaduna State.

While congratulating them on their new appointments, the emir tasked them to use their wealth of experience to bring about rapid socio-economic development to the emirate.

He enjoined them to be good ambassadors of the emirate and imbibe the spirit of unity, tolerance and patience to enable them to discharge their responsibilities diligently.

Dr. Haruna Saleh Kargi, was a former Kaduna state Commissioner of inter-governmental affairs, Director Personnel and Administration in various local governments in Kaduna and now a Director Finance and Accounting at the ministry of Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs Kaduna state.

In an interview with journalists shortly after the burning ceremony, Dr. Haruna Kargi, said said those bestowed with the traditional titles were carefully chosen and rewarded for their hard work, loyalty, and commitment.

The event which took place at the Emir of Zazzau Palace, Zaria was attended by several people including Directors from Various ministries, Local government chairmens , friends and well wishers from nooks and crannies in Kaduna state.

One of the supporters of the plane peaceful protest against insecurity,hardship and hunger Nigerians are encountering. Binyamin Yahuza Gabari has show his about the Federal Government efforts to deny the youth the right to protest peacefully.

He said this while in a statement made available to journalist he advised that Bola Tinubu Government to refrain from interfering with the freedom that constitution gave to the people's to organiser peaceful protests. As it was the same constitution right that gave him opportunity to become the elected president of the country in a democratic system.

Adding that the laws in the constitution have given the youths able to organise peaceful protests to attract the Government's attention about the difficult situation people's in the country are facing.e

Biniya Yahuza Gabari shows that if the Government refused to allow youths to perform there constitutional rights of orgasing peaceful protest they will sue the Government to the International Court of Justice for denial the constitutional rights of citizens to shows their concerned about the difficult situation the government has put them.

Protest: Comptroller Olomu Gives Assurances of Normal Operations in Apapa Port

Customs Area Controller (CAC)of Apapa Port Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu has given a reassurance to port users operating in Apapa that activities of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) would continue uninterrupted despite apprehensions about an impending nationwide protest

Addressing a meeting of stakeholders in Apapa on Tuesday, Comptroller Olomu said it has become expedient to rebuild confidence in importers, exporters, licensed customs agents,freight forwarders,haulage operators and other port users on the availability of Nigeria Customs Service officers in Apapa Port on all working days as usual

He stated that customs officers attached to the command at the port and all terminals under his watch shall be available to discharge their usual functions and support in facilitating all legitimate trade within their purview.

The CAC further advised that the office of the Customs Public Relations Officer and other offices assigned to function as help desks shall be available to address inquiries and give further details where necessary.

For the avoidance of doubt, Comptroller Olomu reminded members of the Apapa Port Community, including sister government agencies, that customs officers shall be resuming work by 8am on all weekdays and may work during weekends, when necessary.

While thanking the compliant port users, whom he described as partners in progress, the Area Controller reiterated the command's resolve to continually ensure maximum collection of all government revenue without compromising the due diligence required for all import and export cargo examination

Also, speaking at the meeting, Commissioner of Police in charge of Western Ports CP Lanre Ishola thanked the Controller for convening the meeting and stated that the police will ensure the respect of citizens' rights at all times

The Port Manager for Apapa Port, Mr. Charles Okaga reminded all port users at the meeting that Apapa Port runs a 24-hour operation. Okaga added that other stakeholders in the cargo clearing process, like the shipping companies and terminal operators, will be sensitised by Nigerian Ports Authority to dispense their services normally.

Okaga said the NPA will urge shipping companies and terminal operators not to impose demurrage on cargoes under their control, for days they couldn't effect services for clearance

Apapa Customs Intercepts 7 Illegally Imported Containers

In a statement issued to journalists by the Command public relation officer , Chief Superintendent of Customs, Abubakar Usman, said the command seized 2x40ft containers carrying twelve thousand (12,000) pieces of cutlass and machete; 2x40ft carrying four thousand, one hundred and twenty-nine (4,129) packages of frozen hen; 1x40ft container carrying three hundred and sixty-eight (368) jumbo bales of used second hand clothing; and 1x40ft container of expired pharmaceutical.

According to him, The duty paid value (DPV) of these seized items stood at two hundred and ninety-two milion, two hundred and forty-four thousand, eight hundred and fifty-seven naira (292,244,857.00).

“It is pertinent to note that this type of importation is against schedule 3 of the revised import prohibition list of the Common External Tariff (CET) and violate section 233 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.

Comptroller Olomu, explained that the seizures were made following a combination of intelligence and diligent enforcement in ensuring that no consignment exits Apapa Port or any terminal under the command without undergoing proper examination.

He noted that as a working principle, the command will continually sustain and improve on trade facilitation and maximum revenue collection without compromising the enforcement of our extant laws as they pertain to false decaration, concealment, under declaration and under valuation.

The Compt. re-emphasized that the command under his leadership will continue to enforcing the requirements for sister regulatory agencies like NAFDAC in the case of food and drugs and strict implementation of the end user certificate rules for products that require it from relevant authorities like the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

He said , smuggling of prohibited items and restated that the Apapa command will keep ensuring only consignments that meet the integrity test of compliance will be allowed to go through the port either as import or export cargoes.

Comptroller Olomu, therefore , appreciated the continuous existing support and cordial relationship with government agencies and promised that the seized items will be handed over to the appropriate agency for further investigation and regulatory action.

KANO: Training Of Local Government Officials To Receive Special Attention.. says Comrade Aminu Abdussalam

Kano state Government says training and retraining of local government officials would continue to receive special attention for the overall interest of the residents across the 44 local government areas of the state.

The state Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam disclosed this at a two day workshop organized by the state ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on operational guidelines for Kano state Local Government Interim management officers and other key players in kaduna.

Declaring the workshop opened the Deputy Governor said the participants were carefully selected from various local government areas of the state based on confidence the government has on them that at the end of the exercise their productivity would be improved.

Aminu Abdussalam noted that the state government under their watch would continue to remain committed on the task of training and retraining of critical stackeholders with a view to achieve sustainable development especially at the grassroots.

While commending organizers for their well packaged exercise,the Deputy Governor emphasized the need for harmonious working relationship within the interim management committee members for the overall interest of their respective areas.

Earlier in an address, the Permanent Secretary of State ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Ibrahim Muhammad Kabara commended the state government for approving and financing the programme.

Ibrahim Muhammad kabara further enjoined participants to pay attention on what will be thought through out the session and ensure that lessons learned were cascaded to grassroots.

In a paper titled the Importance of Cordial Working Relationship and Synergies between the Local Government Councils MDAs,CBOs and NGOs towards the implementation of 2024 ministry for Local Government operational guidelines presented by Muhammad Maharaz Karaye reiterated the importance of synergy between the various departments in the local government.

..Suspect Detained as Comptroller Shuaibu Vows to Ensure Justice for Slain Officer

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone B is sad to announce the tragic demise of Inspector of Customs (IC) Hamza Abdullahi Elenwo in an unfortunate incident that occurred on Friday, 12 July 2024 at Achilafia along Daura-Kano Road in Jigawa State during a stop and search operation.

In a statement issued to journalists by the unit Public Relations Officer Superintendent of Customs
Customs Isah Sulaiman, said the incident occurred when a vehicle suspected to be smuggled into the country hit the operative while trying to evade arrest. The late Operative was rushed to the General Hospital Kazaure and later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Katsina, where he was pronounced dead by the Doctor on duty. The deceased has been laid to rest in Katsina, according to Islamic rites.

Inspector Hamza, an indigene of Port Harcourt, Rivers State was born on 15 April 1985. He joined the Nigeria Customs Service as Customs Assistant III (CAIII) in the Transport and Logistics Unit on 17 October 2013 and was promoted to the rank of Inspector of Customs (IC) in the year 2022. He is survived by a wife and two Children.

The Head of Federal Operations Unit Zone B, Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu, on behalf of the entire Officers and Men of the Unit, extends his heartfelt condolence to the deceased's family and prays for his eternal rest.

Comptroller Shuaibu asserted that the incident shows the level of desperation by smugglers operating without recourse to human lives, adding that it is also one of the many instances where smugglers kill and maim Personnel of the service in an attempt to evade arrest.

The Comptroller vowed to ensure justice is served as One (1) Suspect has been arrested and is in the Custody of the Nigeria Police Force, Gwiwa Division in Jigawa State.
He added that the unit's operatives would not be deterred and would remain unwavering in the fight against smuggling.

ALLEGED CORRUPTION: APC Support Group Urges Kaduna State Government To investigate Ex- Commissioner Hafsat Baba

The National Coalition of APC 19 States Support Group Against Corruption And Corrupt Practices , has called on the Kaduna State Government to investigate the former Commissioner Ministry of Human Services and social development Hajiya Hafsat Baba over alleged corruption and mismanagement of public funds and 1,500 Red Goats meant for the participants in the adolescent Girls empowerment programme.

The group made the call at a press conference by the National Chairman Dr. Maina Gimba in Kaduna.

Dr. Gimba who is double as The Director General Anti Corruption Corps, said the calls for investigation came at a time when the Kaduna state government is taking bold steps against corruptions.

Hajiya Hafsat Baba has been accused of diverting funds meant for empowering the less previladge people in Kaduna State and using them to share with her families and associates, other allegations.

His words "Our group has followed carefully the attempt of the Kaduna state house of Assembly to that fairness and justice is done on the issue of accountability in governance in Kaduna State"

"We have conducted investigation and have gathered data on how the public funds and other useful supports properties of Kaduna state meant for the poor and orphans were diverted by the then Hon. Commissioner of Human Services And Social Development, Kaduna State, Hajiya Hafsat Baba"

Dr. Maina Gimba, explained that at risk children programme initiatives by the office of the vice president ( Yemi Osibanjo) for entrepreneur training in Which a total number of 1. 500 Red Goats for rearing was sent to the ministry through the then commissioner for onward delivery to the participant who are masses of Kaduna state but Hafsat Baba, diverted the entire 1,500 Red Goats without giving any to the participants.

"During the seven Days entrepreneur training, the then commissioner Hajiya Hafsat Baba unathically took over the contract of supply of food meant for the participants through her biological Daughter By Name Hauwa'u Baba. The commissioner equally diverted the sum of Fifteen Million Naira only ( N15,000,000,00) meant for feeding of the said Red Goats"

" Similarly the sum of Three million Naira ( 3,000,000,00) meant for the celebration on the occasion of the independent Day in 2022 that was not release in due time until in December,2022 was never remitted back to the ministry of Finance, Kaduna state as the protocols demand since the said funds were not used for the purpose in which it was released but rather the then commissioner of ministry of Human Services and social development diverted the said sum to her personal use"

" There was also a case of Data collection of Almajiri's children from selected 16 Local government of Kaduna state in which the commissioner falsely claimed and collected the sum of three million Naira under the guise of transporting the case managers for the exercise for 21 days across the selected 16 Local government which never happened as each of the LGA transported themselves through the exercise "

" Some Almajiri's were shortlisted and bank account opened in their name for the purpose of paying into the shortlisted Almajiri's Bank Account, the sum of ten Thousand Naira ( (N10,000) for the period of six months. But to our surprise and dismay, the shortlisted Almajiri's only received two months payment and the rest of the money for four months were diverted by the Hajiya Hafsat Baba despite been released. That all the Bank Account are domicile in Keystone Bank under the supervision and control of her son by name Ahmed Mohammed Baba who also happened to be a staff of the said Bank"

On the alleged diversion of rehabilitations home by the former Commissioner, Dr. Gimba noted that "in 2019, a private rehabilitation homes were raided due to the dehumanizing nature of the said rehabilitation home. The affected rehabilitation home in Rigasa were In Hanbal Rehabilitation home and Malam N***a rehabilitation home Rigasa all raided by the Kaduna state government and inmate were lodged at Hajj Camp, The then commissioner Hafsat Baba Applied for the sum of six million Naira ( N6,000,000,00)as allowance to the staff under her ministry who were involved in the exercise. The said ( N6,000,000,00) were released by the Kaduna state government but diverted by commissioner and was never released and paid to the staff involved in the exercise"

Speaking further, the Anti- Corruption Director, said every field work engaged by the staff of the ministry, the then commissioner Hajiya Hafsat Baba' do compel the staff to pay some percentage of whatever few or amount gotten from the field work to her as facilitation.

The group called on the state government to immediate investigate the activities of the ministry of Human Services and social development under Hajiya Hafsat Baba, urged for prosecutions.

IPAC Commends Governor Uba Sani for Foresight in Kaduna State

The Kaduna State Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for his strategic foresight in securing the future of the state.

He expressed satisfaction with the projects done at various projects by Governor Uba Sani administration within one year in office.

Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha , who is also the Chairman African Democratic Congress Kaduna state (ADC), stated this in an interview with Newsmen after stakeholders meeting organise by the office of Senior Special Aassistant to the governor on stakeholders relations held at Arewa house Kaduna.

Alhaji Tijjanj , also commended Governor Uba Sani, housing projects initiative which spearheaded by Qatar Charity Foundation at Millennium City .

The Arewa Youths Merger Group has called for the immediate arrest of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the National Leader and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party .This is contained in a press statement signed by. the chairman of the group Musa Mujahid Zantawa and made available to press.
This follows his recent statement accusing the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of fostering a new generation of Boko Haram terrorists and insurgents in Northern Nigeria.
Kwankwaso's allegations have sparked significant controversy, prompting a strong reaction from the Arewa Youths Merger Group.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the association's leader, Musa Mujahid
Zaitawa, condemned Kwankwaso's remarks as inflammatory and detrimental to national security.
Zaitawa asserted that such statements could exacerbate tensions and potentially incite violence in the region.
"Kwankwaso's unfounded accusations against the federal government are not only reckless but also dangerous. They undermine efforts to combat terrorism and promote peace in Northern Nigeria,"
Zaitawa said. "We urge the authorities to take immediate action and arrest him to prevent further escalation of hostilities."

The Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a landmark daily collection of N17,903,312,598 on June 14 , 2024, being the highest since it's inception.

Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu described the feat as the beginning of many revenue collection, trade facilitation, and anti smuggling exploits to be achieved by the command in discharging its assigned statutory duties.

In a statement issued to journalists by Command Public relation Officer Abubakar Usman, said Olomu, who assumed office as Area Controller of the nation's premier port command a month ago , said the officers and men of the command under his watch are ready to sustain and surpass the tempo and up the ante.

He added that this unprecedented collection is a way of celebrating one year in office of Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, whose inspiring and motivating leadership has contributed greatly in what the command recorded thus far.

Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has demonstrated remarkable generosity by gifting 100 Saudi Riyals to each of the 3,121 pilgrims from Kano State as a Sallah gesture.

This kind act was announced by the Deputy Governor who equals as the State Amirul Hajj, Comr. Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo during his visit to the Kano Pilgrims' Camp at Mina in Saudi Arabia.

Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, The Head of Media Team for Kano State Pilgrims and also the Deputy Governor’s Spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement circulated to newsmen in Kano.

According to Ibrahim, the Governor's generosity didn't stop there. Noting that each pilgrim had previously received N500,000 to complete their Hajj 2024 payment and an additional N150,000 to supplement their pocket money, totalling 500 US dollars.

He revealed that in another display of generosity, Alhaji Mijinyawa, CEO of Sahad Stores, also gifted 50 Saudi Riyals to each Kano pilgrim as a Sallah gift.

The Deputy Governor encouraged pilgrims to offer earnest prayers for themselves, their loved ones, the progress and development of Kano State and Nigeria at large.

In a relative development, According to Ibrahim the said, Deputy Governor Gwarzo also visited all 44 local government areas' tents in Mina.

Eid-el-Kabir: Hon. Nazir Sanusi Gifts Constituents Cash, Rams For Sallah

A Member Kaduna House Assembly representing Kawo Constituency Hon. Nazir Sanusi Abubakar has, in the spirit of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, shared Cash and Rams to members of his constituents.

The initiative, according to the Umar Samfam, an APC chieftain In Badarawa/ Malali word said the gesture was to cushion the effects of the economic hardship being experienced by many of the constituents amid preparations for Eid-el-Kabir.

According to our investigations, the gesture was done in order to ease the burden of Sallah celebrations on the people of the Constituency.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Umar Samfam, thanks the lawmaker for the kind gesture which he described as routine.

He said if not for the Naziru Sanusi, kind gesture, many of them will have celebrate Sallah somehow.

Samfam, explained that this is the first time in history of Kawo Constituency they have elected a member who has deep concern on the plight of the downtrodden masses. He added that Badarawa/Malali word received 200 thousand Naira cash which was shared accordingly.

Our reporter, report that the distribution of the cash and Rams aimed to put a smile on the faces of residents of his constituency as well as ensure merry Eid-el-Kabir Sallah celebrations.

Also speaking, a beneficiary from Unguwar Dosa Word Yusuf Umar commended Hon. Naziru for his passion to serve, urging people to continue to pray for him.

" I received Sallah cash gift from Nazir Sanusi while he is at the holy land performing Hajj this is to show that Hon. Nazir has demonstrated commitment to his constituents especially at this critical time"
