10 MASTERING TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS...

-Master your song to suit every platform, but most importantly, satisfy yourself.

-Check genre references to know how the song should sound in the genre..

-Always start your chain with some correcting EQing..

-Add processing only if you know what you are after and have a clear image..

-Automate the master fader and plugin parameters for more dynamic outcomes..

-Go for subtle compression settings, just for some gluing and coloring reasons..

-Gain match the vocals if you are mastering multiple songs in a project..

-Try setting the output on the limiter between -0.5 & -0.2dB

-Listen to the final product on multiple systems and A/B mono and stereo..

-Trust your instinct and check your track with rested Ears...

UNDERSTANDING PANNING AND WIDTH

You need to understand that you do not have to pan hard left or right just because there is a pan knop.

Many beginner engineers will pan something hard left or right without understanding the gravity of their doing .

This can happen is rare cases of double tracked guitars or vocals, sometimes pianos and choirs.

Pan with taste and always check the spectrum analyzer to see if you are going outside in the anti region.

Simply width expansion can sometimes work better than panning.

Consider this option over pannjng from time to time...

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR BAD VOCAL RECORDING

- Use turning plugins
- Double it with another vocal
- Remove mouth noises
- Add reverb, delay and interesting effects
- Use it as atmospheric sound
- Layer it with a synth
- Chop the vocal and select the best parts
- Add distortion and EQ to create a radio effect

FIVE (5) MISTAKES TO AVOID
----MIXBUS COMPRESSOR----

1- RATIO TOO HIGH - use low ratios like 2.1. Thia ia NOT the stage to aggressively compress.

2- TOO MUCH GAIN REDUCTION- the goal is subtly "glue" sounds together. Aim for 1-2dB.

3- ATTACK TO FAST - now isn't the time to "fix" problem transients. Use med to slow times

4- RELEASE TOO FAST - can create a pumping sound, which is not always desired.

5- RELEASE TOO SLOW - Compressor will constantly stay on, rather than catch the peaks...............................................................

What is MIXBUS COMPRESSION???
The "MIX BUS" is just another term used, the output of your daw, or the channel that all Audio flows through"..

Compression of your entire mix can "Glue" things together and Add Cohesiveness...

👉🏽 BUTCRUSH - a lo-fi digital audio effect which produces a distortion by the reduction of the resolution or bandwidth of digital audio data.

👉🏽 BUS - a point in a signal flow where multiple channels are routed into the same output. For example, your "Master Bus" is where all channels output

👉🏽 DEMO - an unsigned track, Album or body of work. It is used to demonstrate why a label, publisher or management company should sign you.

👉🏽 DISTORTION - technically distortion Is ANY deviation in the shape of an audio waveform between two points in a signal path. There are many different types of distortion....Some harsh sounding and some pleasant sounding...

EQ before REVERB its gonna help your process so very well..

CLEAN UP YOUR REVERB

Bus by placing a HPF/Low cute before the Reverb plugin.

When doing this pre-EQ, you are cleaning up the signal before it enter the reverb.

The I will allow the reverb to sound Cleaner and less muffled.

If you only place an EQ after the REVERB, it does still clean up low end but the reverb sound itself Can Lack Clarity Due To All The Lows It Has To Deal With.

You might find yourself polishing turd at that point.

This technique is another advantage of using reverb on a bus, or send a return, because we can Clean-up Reverb independently from the actual instrument...
