Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie, has said the image of late Nollywood actor John Odonwodo, aka Junior Pope, which was not dented during his life time wouldn’t be destroyed in his death.

Rita made this known following controversy surrounding her in-law, Yul Edochie’s recent statement about Junior Pope.

Yul had claimed that Junior Pope betrayed him multiple times while he was alive, which led to his absence from the funeral.

Reacting to his statement on her page on Tuesday, Rita Edochie emphasized the importance of keeping certain issues unspoken, offering prayers for Junior Pope’s soul to rest in peace.

A truck has rammed into a Lagos State BRT bus at Ibafo bus-stop along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.

Our correspondent who went to the scene gathered that the accident occurred around some minutes to 6am on Saturday.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and Police on response call at the accident scene insisted that only their Public Relations Officers were authorised to speak.

However, unconfirmed reports from onlookers noted that several people on the BRT bus were injured.

Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has disclosed that his principal, President Bola Tinubu, subsidised the 2024 Hajj with N90 billion.

He stated this when he represented Tinubu to flag off the inaugural airlift of the 2024 Hajj exercise from Nigeria to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

Shettima urged the intending pilgrims to pray for peace, unity, and progress in the country, urging the intending pilgrims to abide by all rules and regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and urged them to avoid any illicit act capable of affecting the integrity of their Hajj.

“Mr president has been committed to this year’s Hajji due to the economic situation, he has also contributed the sum of N90 billion to subsidise this year’s Hajj exercise to have a smooth and successful exercise.

”You may recall that this year, we had a major challenge in announcing the final hajj fare for the 2024 Muslim pilgrimage due to fluctuation in foreign exchange rates.

”President Bola Tinubu also works round the clock to control the downward spiral of our local currency to bring relief to our pilgrims and other Nigerians.

”A move that eventually succeeded in lowering the fare. The President approved the release of N90 billion to subsidised the cost of pilgrimage for this year’s hajj.”

He said that the government of Renewed Hope led by Tinubu attaches immense importance to religious pilgrimage due to the role it plays in transforming behavioral and social vices of the believers beyond performing the pilgrimage.

Earlier in his remarks, the Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, said this year’s Hajji signifies a sacred journey for thousands of devoted pilgrims who embarked on a spiritual voyage to the Holy Land.

Senate Asks Tinubu To Start Advocacy For Full LG Autonomy

The upper chamber also asked the President to convene a national dialogue to discuss the road map towards achieving full local government autonomy.

The Senate has asked President Bola Tinubu to kick-start advocacy for full autonomy of local governments in the country to curb insecurity, rural-urban migration, decaying infrastructure, and widespread unemployment.

The upper chamber also asked the President to convene a national dialogue involving governors, state legislators, local government officials, civil society organizations, and community leaders to discuss the road map towards achieving full local government autonomy.

Other lawmakers, who have described the local government as the most abused system, have equally called for an amendment of the 1999 constitution to catalyze such independence.

The senate minority leader, Senator Abba Moro, recalled that over 17 states are currently operating a caretaker committee in the local government, creating an impasse in the administration of the LG.

He insisted that no effort should be spared in investigating the abuse of the system.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represents Anambra South, revealed that Anambra State has not conducted local government elections in the last 18 years.

He asserted that the non-implementation of the 1999 framework has become a major impediment to the independence of the local government system.

Labour Unions Walk Out Of Minimum Wage Negotiations, Blast FG

The unions said the N48,000 proposal from the Federal Government is ridiculous.

The labour unions comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress have walked out of the ongoing minimum wage negotiations with the government and the Organised Private Sector.

Angered by the N48,000 proposal by the Federal Government as the national minimum wage, the labour unions described the offer as ridiculous.

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, explained that the government is not serious about negotiating with the Labour on the new minimum wage.

He explained that the FG does not have the necessary data to negotiate with Labour.

Ajaero maintained that Government have till the end of the month to arrive at a decision, adding that Labour will take a decision at the expiration of the ultimatum.

The Trade Union Congress was represented at the meeting by the Deputy President, Mr. Tommy Okon.

A joint statement signed by Ajaero and Okon after the meeting read in part, “The Government’s proposal of a paltry N48,000 (forty-eight thousand Naira} as the Minimum Wage does not only insult the sensibilities of Nigerian workers but also falls significantly short of meeting our needs and aspirations.

“In contrast the Organised Private Sector (OPS) proposed an initial offer of N54 ,000 (fifty-four thousand Naira) though it is worth noting that even the least paid workers in the private sector receives N78,000 (seventy-eight thousand Naira per month) as clearly stated by the OPS, highlighting the stark disparity between the proposed and prevailing standards further demonstrating the minimum wage unwillingness of Employers and Government to faithfully negotiate a fair National Minimu

Today, the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries revealed that Nigeria had set a new oil production record and reclaimed her role as Africa's largest crude exporter, with a daily oil production of 1.28 million barrels. And there is a loud silence from Peter Obi.

But if, God forbid, a motor accident claims the lives of Nigerians tomorrow, Peter Obi will come out and use the most uncouth language, saying that they were "roasted alive" and blaming the government.

He attacked the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project as being unnecessary but did not talk when Buhari built the Second Niger Bridge, even though there was already an existing bridge, just because he does not want Tinubu to get South-South votes. It is all about Peter!

Opposition is one thing. Demonisation is another. What Obi is doing is demonisation. He prays for bad things to happen in Nigeria so that he can gloat. Kwankwaso also lost the . How many times have you seen him salivating over bad news about the country?

And at least Kwankwaso built about 140 schools whilst he was a two-term Governor. How many did Obi build in eight years? A big fat ZERO. Instead, he was busy building HERO beer!
