Mancherster City have won the English Premier League after beating Aston Villa 3 -2 on Sunday.

Manchester City was under pressure by league rivals into the final matchday of the premier league with Liverpool having 89 points and Manchester City having 90 points.

Should Liverpool win and Manchester City draw, Liverpool will be crowned the winner. All Manchester City needed to win to secure the League. After a tough 94 minutes, Manchester City trailed from two goals behind to stage a comeback by scoring three consecutive goals. The match ended in 3 -2 in favour of Manchester City and ensured they win the League.

Manchester City’s incredible run has seen them win four of the last five Premier Leagues under the Pep Guardiola’s Management.

Liverpool on the other hand also won their final match 3 – 1 against Wolves with Mane, Salah and Robertson hitting the back of the net for the club. Their win got them 92 points in the League but was not enough to make them winners as Manchester City ended 93 points.

Pep Guardiola (4) has now won more Premier League trophies than Jose Mourinho (3) and Arsene Winger (3).

The court in Osogbo has declared Senator Ademola Adeleke as the candidate of the opposition PDP in the July 16 governorship election in Osun state.

A PDP governorship aspirant Dotun Babayemi contested Adeleke’s candidacy, asking the court to recognise him as the party’s candidate.

But the court recognised the PDP primary governorship election that produced Adeleke as the candidate.

Africa Magic held its first-ever pan African food festival and cultural day in grand style. The awarding body celebrated African diversity and cultural heritage at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel.

The Culture Day is part of a weeklong event for the eighth edition of the AMVCAs.

For her African look, she opted for the typical owambe look, slaying in a blush pink lace dress with a dramatic slit.

The 2020 Big Brother Naija winner made sure to bring his Odogwu-ness to the event.

He turned up in a green ensemble with Isiagu and fur-infused designs. With a traditionally-designed handful and neckpiece, Whitemoney needed no introduction as the chief that he is.

Aston Villa completed the permanent signing of Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho on Thursday in a deal the La Liga club said is worth 20 million euros (£17 million).

The Brazilian has impressed since arriving at Villa on loan in January after struggling to make an impact at Barcelona.

Barca confirmed the transfer includes a 50 percent sell-on clause if Coutinho leaves Villa.

The former Liverpool star, who has scored four times and contributed three assists for Villa, has agreed a contract that runs until 2026.

“This is a brilliant signing for Aston Villa,” Villa boss Steven Gerrard told the club’s website.

“Phil is a model professional and his impact on the group has been very clear since he joined in January.

“With the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch, he’s also a valuable role model for our younger players who can only benefit from his experience.

“As we look to build towards next season, it is incredible to work at a club that executes its business so decisively and smoothly.”

Coutinho joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2018 in a deal worth £146 million.

But, although he was a member of two title-winning teams at Barca, he never recaptured his Liverpool form.

Coutinho, who spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Bayern Munich, scored 26 goals in 106 appearances for Barca.

Coutinho has been capped 67 times by Brazil and was part of the side that won the 2019 Copa America.

The Federal Government has said that about 445 Local Government areas across 32 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will witness heavy flooding during the 2022 raining season.

The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, disclosed this during the unveiling the 2022 annual flood outlook put together by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency.

Adamu said 233 local government areas in 32 States are at the risk of what he called highly probably flood risk areas while 212 local government areas across 35 states are at a risk of moderate flooding during the year.

Lagos, Edo, Delta, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Abia and the FCT lead States at the risk of highly probable flooding during the year.

The Minister also said 57 local government areas across the country are likely to experience highly probable flooding between April and June while 220 others will witness highly probably flooding between July and September.

Meanwhile, according to him, eight States, including Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Lagos, Ogun and Imo states will experience coastal flooding during the year due to rise in sea level and tidal surge, which will impact on fishing, wildlife habitation and river navigation.

He said urban flooding will also be experienced in Lagos, Kaduna, Suleja, Gombe, Asaba, Port Harcourt, Benin and Lokoja among other cities across the country.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), has directed its members across Nigeria to withdraw all services (strike) in every Polytechnic in the country for two weeks, starting from Monday 16 May 2022.

ASUP National President, Comrade Anderson U. Ezeibe, gave this directive in Abuja, at the end of the union’s emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja yesterday, when he addressed journalists.

He went on to say; “We are deploying this medium to equally appeal to members of the public to prevail on the government to do the needful within the 2 weeks period so as to avoid an indefinite shut down of the sector.”

Explaining the reason for the warning strike, he said; “Our Union suspended its industrial action declared on the 6″ of April 2021 on the 10°” of June 2021 following the signing of a Memorandum of Action (MoA) with the government.

“The signed MoA contained a clear path to a sustainable resolution of the issues in dispute with timelines attached to each of the items in dispute.

“The suspension of the industrial action was for a period of 3 months and to | enable the government to conclude processes already initiated in the direction of fulfilment of the items in the MoA which are process led.

“Nine months after the suspension of the industrial action and six months after the expiration of the three-month period of suspension, our Union’s NEC met in its 102 meeting in Federal Polytechnic Mubi and after reviewing the report of the implementation of the MoA, resolved to issue a 1-month ultimatum to the government effective 4” April 2022 to address the outstanding items in the MOA and other emergent issues or face the reality of another trade dispute with our Union.

“Our Union’s ultimatum expired on the 4” of May 2022 and as is the norm, the Union’s NEC reconvened today, 11th of May, 2022 to review the response of the government to the ultimatum, particularly as it affects relevant agencies/functionaries of government.

“Within the period of the ultimatum, the Union met with the National Board for Technical Education to review the grievances with a view to resolution. Another | meeting fixed at the instance of the Honourable Minister of Education (after the 1 expiration of the ultimatum) failed to meet basic requirements for collective bargaining.

“Our Union stayed away from the meeting as it was not structured to address the issues in dispute. The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment only acknowledged receipt of the union’s ultimatum and made no attempts at conciliation.


“Spirited efforts were also made by the Chairman of Chairmen of Governing Councils of Polytechnics in Nigeria and some members of the National Assembly in the direction of a resolution.

“The status of the items in dispute as of today is captured below: Non-release of the approved revitalization fund for the sector: Approved N15bn yet to be released 11 months after approval by the President.

“Non-release of arrears of the new minimum wage: The owed 10 months arrears for the Polytechnics is yet to be released. The composite amount covering all Federal Tertiary Institutions to the approximate figure of N19Bn currently exists as an AIE in the Accountant Generals Office.

“Non-release of the reviewed normative instruments for institution/management and programs accreditation: The document is currently awaiting approval of the Management of NBTE. This document is expected to provide a framework to address non-payment of salaries in state-owned institutions, non-compliance with approved retirement age, non-deployment of approved salary structures, poor governance structure as well as other issues affecting standards, particularly in state-owned Polytechnics.

“As a consequence, our members in Abia, Ogun, Edo, Benue, Bayelsa, Bauchi, Plateau and Osun states are owed salaries while they also continue to suffer from different levels of deprivation including non-release of promotions and non-deployment of appropriate retirement age. Such deprivations are also evident in Adamawa, Niger, Sokoto and Delta States where the government has resolved to disrupt the hitherto timely payment of salaries with a subvention styled funding regime.

“Sustained infractions in implementation of the provisions of the Federal Polytechnics Act as amended in 2019: This issue is currently typified by the arbitrary removal of deputy rectors in Auchi Polytechnic, and the existence of multiple templates for appointment of principal officers with provisions at variance with the provisions of the Act.


“Delay in the appointment of rectors: The appointment process in Kaduna Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Federal Polytechnic Offa, and Federal Polytechnic Ekowe continues to linger.

“Non Release of Arrears of CONTISS 15 Migration for the Lower Cadre: This issue remains at the committee level and even in chapters like NILEST, Zaria implementation is yet to commence.


“Non-release of the scheme of service for Polytechnics: Since 2017, the sector has been struggling with a review process for the scheme of service and conditions of service in use in the sector.

“Continued Victimisation of Union Officers: Our officials in IMT Enugu and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo still remain out of job.

“Continued Arm twisting of Members in Colleges of Agriculture By the ARCN: This has continued as our members in these institutions continue to experience intimidation.

“Following exhaustive deliberations, on the update as outlined above, the emergency meeting of the Union’s National Executive Council has resolved that members should withdraw their services in a 2 weeks industrial action with effect from Monday, 16th of May 2022.”
