KOGI GOVERNOR REWARDS OUTSTANDING PUPILS
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State on Wednesday rewarded 15 pupils of LGEA Demonstration Standard Nursery and Primary School, Onyukoko, Okene LGA of the state for making the state proud in a just concluded annual national mathematics competition.
Governor Bello who was represented by his Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. (Dr.) Abubakar S. Ohere gave the reward while receiving the pupils in his office in Lokoja.
The fifteen kid medallists received the sum N1.5 million with each getting N100,000 while their teachers were motivated with N500,000.
Daily Trust reports that contingents from Kogi State won 5 gold medals out of 6; 5 silver medals out of 8; and 5 bronze medals out of 10 in the keenly contested grand finale of the 15th edition of the Annual National Mathematics Competition organized by the Nigerian -Tulip International Colleges in collaboration with the National Mathematical Center at the Kaduna and Kano centres.
Kogi State came 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 10th positions at the Kaduna centre, while at the Kano centre, the state emerged 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th positions.
The state eventually emerged the overall best at the end of the competition which had participants from the other 18 northern states in attendance.
Engr. Ohere reaffirmed Governor Bello’s commitment to qualitative education in the state as entrenched in the five thematic areas of his administration’s ‘New Direction Blueprint.’
The Education Secretary of Okene Local Government Area, Mrs. Saratu Abdullahi who accompanied the school kids appreciated Governor Bello for the kind gesture and continuous support for education sector.
According to her, the school has maintained the record in the last five years with about 30 pupils from Kogi State currently schooling in Nigerian Tulip International College on scholarship.
