KOGI PDP FAULTS DISAPPEARANCE OF GOV BELLO, ASKS HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY TO BEGIN IMPEACHMENT PROCESS

The Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, has lamented the absence of Gov. Yahaya Bello from the state without officially transmitting a letter to the State House of Assembly.

In a statement signed by Achadu Dickson, Director Research and Documentation, the party said since the alleged fall of the governor in a market place, no letter has been transmitted, to warrant the disappearance of the governor out of the state for over a month.

“For now the ship of governance in the state which lacked direction under Gov Bello, has on its own entered reverse gear, with unpaid salaries to workers who have been cleared since January, while some others had not been paid in the last twenty four months.”

“The absence of Gov. Bello has opened up government activities to corruption and stealing, little wonder local government workers last week since the beginning of the year were only paid a paltry twenty Percent as their January salary.”

The PDP called on the State House of Assembly to begin an impeachment process on the governor, pointing out that as representatives of the people who are in the know of the current suffering of the people, saying that the Governor has faulted the constitution.
The PDP described the unknown whereabouts of the governor as worrisome, adding that the tax payers whose money is used in servicing the governor, deserve to know the whereabouts of the governor and how their resources are being spent.
According to Achadu, the PDP is poised to take over Lugard House in few months to come.

NON-ACCREDITATION: PROTESTING KOGI STATE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL STUDENTS ORDERED TO VACATE HOSTELS

By way of sanction, the Management of Kogi State University has suspended the entire medical students for two weeks.

This suspension is not unconnected with the Monday protest by the students which made the news.

The students were demanding a fast-track of their accreditation which was not forthcoming for over 5 years.

Recall that the Vice-Chancellor of the University was away when the students protested.

However, in an Internal Memorandum signed by the Deputy Registrar, Mr J.U. Amodu on Wednesday, the students have been asked to proceed on a compulsory two-weeks break.

The statement which instructed strict compliance also directed the students to vacate their hostel accommodation before 6pm of Wednesday.

MY SUPPORT FOR GOV. BELLO NOT CONNECTED WITH MY HOUSE OF REPS AMBITION – MESEKO

Chairman of LordFem Group and House of Representatives aspirant for Yagba Federal Constituency, Engr. Edward Femi Olatunji Meseko has said his support for Governor Yahaya Bello has nothing to do with his aspiration to contest for the House of Reps on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meseko, who stated this while addressing some APC stakeholders in Isanlu over the weekend, said the Governor has received his support since his emergence on January 27, 2016 when he was sworn in.

He said Governor Bello has shown dynamic leadership since assumption of office over two years ago.

“He is our Governor, a true and practical example of what our generation is capable of doing. I decamped from the PDP to give him my support because I believe in his leadership.

“When you look at his achievements so far, you will agree with me that our state needs such a firm leader who will have a no nonsense stance against corruption and indiscipline. He is anointed to take Kogi State to new heights,” he said.

Engr. Meseko urged those who are opposed to the Governor to sheath their swords and “cooperate with the Governor to correct the errors of the past”, saying the Governor has put in place a solid foundation for rapid socio-economic development.
“I want to see our people in the National Assembly fighting for the interest of Kogi State rather than promoting hate speeches on the floor of the House. We didn’t send them there to speak evil of our state but to attract development to Kogi State.

“The Governor should ignore them and concentrate on his laudable programs. We must not make the mistakes of the past again. Our best hands must be the ones to represent us at the National Assembly from 2019.

“My intention to go to the National Assembly is premised on the need to attract development to Yagbaland and Kogi State through lobbying and legislation. I have what it takes to change the current negative narrative of our representation in Yagbaland.

“Our roads, our hospitals, our schools and our youth capacity must be improved. We must work with our State Government to achieve these for our great people.

“Let me also commend the Governor for the Omi Dam Project that has created millionaires among the farming youth. I also thank him for the Takete Ide road that he has given to Julius Berger. When that road is completed, he shouldn’t come to campaign in my place again. My people are very grateful for his efforts at making life better for us”.

COURT NULLIFIES OBA EGBE’S (OBA ABIODUN AGBANA-5) APPOINTMENT

A Kogi State High Court sitting in Isanlu has nullified the purported appointment of the Oba of Egbe, Abiodun Agbana, declaring the appointment illegal.
The court said should stop parading himself as Oba of Egbe as he lacked the constitutional power to ascend the throne.
The presiding judge, Justice Samuel Obayomi, gave the ruling on an interlocutory injunction brought by the claimant, Capt. Folorunsho Aremu (rtd) against Agbana and three others, challenging his selection and appointment of as the paramount ruler of Egbe land.
Apart from Agbana other defendants in the suit are the Kogi state government, ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs and the Yagba traditional council.
Delivering judgment in the suit number: KGS/IHC/10/2016 & KGS/EHC/5/2016, the judge invalidated the Agbana’s appointment and ordered the parties to return to status quo also, banning the parties from proceeding with the coronation of the sacked king.
After listening to both parties, Justice Obayomi granted an order of mandatory injunction setting aside the recognition of Agbana by the Kogi State government.
Justice Obayomi further granted an order of mandatory injunction setting aside the issuance and acceptance of the certificate of recognition earlier issued to Agbana by the state government and any act or acts made in furtherance of the said acceptance by the defendant.
The judge also gave an order setting aside the proposed coronation of Agbana, saying that he resorted to self-help while the case was still pending before the court.
Delivering the ruling, the judge said “The first defendant is hereby restrained from parading, holding himself out and or in any manner whatsoever acting as the traditional ruler, pending the hearing and determination of this suit”
The court also gave an order “restraining the defendants especially the traditional institutions from setting in motion any process for the appointment of the Baale of Egbe during the pendency of the consolidated suits.”
Justice Obayomi said failure to obey the direction contained in the order by any of the defendants will amount to contempt of court.
