AJIMOKO 111: SUSTAINING IJESA ANCIENT RITUALS AND INCREDIBLE HISTORY.

Ijesaland, with its rich tapestry of cultures and histories, is home to a myriad of unique and fascinating traditions. While many traditions connect people through shared experiences, others stand out for their quirky and eccentric practices.

In the past few days, the Imperial Majesty and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement ADESUYI HAASTRUP, Ajimoko 111, has been visiting the ancestral homes of Owa Obokun Adimula. His visits to each of these historical homes offers a delightful glimpse into the traditions that make Ijesaland a unique community of extraordinary and captivating homogeneity. Further more, his tour of ancient towns and villages across Ijesaland reinforces a renewed sense of connection to the past as well as linking Owa Obokun Adimula and his great people together in the most unique traditional and Cultural ethics and shared sense of belonging.

It's been hectic though, but truly exciting. He was at IGBADAE and precisely at the Ile Ajibogun Orunaja Aganniyeye Ekun. There he observes all the prescribed traditional rites for his ascension to the Throne of his fathers. It's important to mention it that, from the very moment he stepped out of the ancient town, the Ijesa tradition forbids him from visiting IGBADAE forever. " O di eewo fun Owa lati wa si ilu IGBADAE mo lati oni yi lo", that was the emphatic order by the Alales.

At Igbo'Kin or Igbo Ikin where he performed his last 'Itule' and offered sacrifices to Yeye Osun, it's also forbidden for him to ever visit the village again in life. And, more importantly, "Owa Obokun Adimula o tun ba won tu ile mo laelae". From Igbo'Kin to Ipole was another exciting experience. Tradition bestowed the duties of going to the ancient abode of OWARI as early as 5 am and in the evening by 4 pm till 7 pm, the duty of offering a sacrifice to Ogun, the God of iron. So, despite all the tasking experiences of going to Igbo'Kin, Owa Obokun Adimula and his entourage had to stop over at Ipole for the Ogun Sacrifice.
"Okun ni Olori omi,
Ogongo ni Oba Eye,
OWA Ajaka, Obokun Adimula ni Olori Oba Alade".
Essentially, the sacrifice was offered to clear the pathways for Owa, to protect the good people of Ijesaland in all ramifications. The drum beats and sounds were different....
"J'agun J'agun lo n bo,
J'agun J'agun lo n bo,
Olori Ogun, ko gb'odo keyin Ogun,
J'agun J'agun lo n bo".

As early as 3 am, Owa Obokun Adimula was set for Ipole. He left for Ipole at the exactly 4 am on Monday. By 5 am, he was at the front of OWARI ancient house waiting for Ogboni Ipole. Every art of the culture and tradition to be offered was scheduled to start and end before one can see the Palm lines.

Today, the real journey to the throne begins at Ibokun. Though, as part of what has to be done before the commencement of the ascension processes, Oba Clement ADESUYI HAASTRUP will stop at ILOWA to conclude his visit to the ancient abodes of his ancestors.

Curfew has been declared to commence from 2 pm till Wednesday morning. All the mandatory traditional rites will be observed throughout the night till 4 am on Wednesday when he will depart for Lemodu House in Ilesa.

Contrary to the rumours and outright falsehoods by some uninformed people, Oba Clement ADESUYI HAASTRUP is fully determined to preserve the rich and unique history and traditions of Ijesaland. Even where it becomes necessary to modernize any part of the existing traditional procedures or protocols, he will do so without diminishing its credibility and ethics. And, that's why all the steps taken so far were in conformity with prescribed tradition and culture, and Ifa was duly consulted in strict sacredness by designated Ifa Priests before he was chosen. According to OBALORO, LEMODU, PETELUA, ALESHI and other Ifa Priests, Ifa was duly consulted in the same ways it's done in the ages and not in the caricature ways as being suggested by some misinformed people.

Even during the visits so far , the voices and actions of the gods through Ifa were favourably affirmative...."eji-ogbe and okanran". Humility is created in "Okanran", so are new positive directions and new prosperous opportunities. Ejiogbe have omnipresence sphere of influence as spiritual and physical Problems solver. The importance of materials or ingredients for all the sacrifices such as Ram, Kolanut, Water, Snails, Ataare, Adiye fun fun, A*o fun fun etc cannot be overemphasized. . In the sacrifices, the consecrated life of each offering is liberated as a sacred potency that establishes a bond between the gods, Owa Obokun and the people of Ijesaland, most especially. And, essential spiritual expectations and physical rewards are peaceful reigns, good health, prosperity, protection, long life and unity of purpose.

As he begins the traditional processes to the Throne today, our fervent prayers for the king and Ijesaland, for Osun State and Nigeria is for his longevity on the Throne, for the his happiness and for the prosperity in the land.

May God Bless The King.

As a result of the Uniqueness of our tradition and culture, curfew will be imposed where and when necessary. It's therefore mandatory that people must observe strict compliance whenever such restrictions are declared.

PRESS STATEMENT.

OWA OBOKUN ADIMULA ELECT'S CONFIDENCE IN IJESA TRADITIONS IS SACROSANCT.

Let us first take this opportunity to once again welcome every living soul, and with special reference to Ijesa sons and daughters into the new year. We want to say with the authority of Almighty God and the foremost best wishes of Owa Elect, that, “ẹ o ri batise, ẹ o ri ona gbe gba ninu odun yi. Iran ọgẹdẹ ki i sun ẹkun a ti dẹ, ara ko ni n'yin. Ọlọrun l'Ọba afini m'ọna, ọna ko ni di mọ nyin, bẹẹ, oju ko ni t'nyin. Ọlọrun l'Ọba ti o n bo asiri, asiri yin o ni tu. Amin".

It has become highly imperative for us to clear the air and calm down nerves over the issue of "Ipẹbi" and other elements of seclusions towards the final ascension of Ọwa to the sacred Throne of his fathers and as established by the "Alalẹs" ( the owners of Ijesaland). We, therefore will like to say with all sense of honour and commitment that the new Ọwa Obokun Adimula of Ijẹṣaland has not disregarded and will not disregard Ijẹṣa traditions as laid down by Ọwa Obokun Ajibogun Ọrun Aja Aganniyeye Ẹkun since 11th century to date.

As a duty, Oba Clement ADESUYI HAASTRUP is very careful at the risks that could manifest in the erosion or destruction of the various elements that hold our historical or cultural identity and dignity within Yoruba land.
He believes that when cultural heritage is compromised, it diminishes a community's connection to its past, disrupts the transmission of traditions and knowledge, and erases the tangible and intangible sanctity of its identity.

Against this background, it is appropriate to state that 42 YEARS cannot be said to be a joke in the life of an individual or a community. The last time most of the facilities or instruments or the shrine to be used in consulting with the deities were used or visited was 42 YEARS AGO.

Furthermore, many of those who will perform the rituals are new and have just been settling into their roles until the passing away of our beloved Kabiyesi, Ọwa Obokun Adimula of Ijẹṣaland, Ọba Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromọlaran 11, LLD, CFR. We may recall what happened during the 30 days of his mourning and how a number of errors were vividly noticed in the ways the traditional "Itufọ" procedures were observed. Kabiyesi and his working committee are on a flexible rolling program to make each step to be taken during his seclusions safe, healthy and hitch free.

These are being done at the request of the traditional chiefs who are saddled with the responsibilities of performing the rituals and as soon as Kabiyesi receives the signal that everything is okay, the traditional rites will commence immediately.

Kabiyesi takes the various opinions and deep concerns of the Ijẹsas with all sense of humility and he's also eager to complete these rites, ascend the throne of his fathers and commence his unification and developmental programs in earnest.

The epochs steps to the Throne of Owa Obokun Adimula and all its privileges flow through strict observance and tediousness involving not less than 20 significant traditional procedures that have to be observed in not less than 90 days.

It is therefore instructive that for such steps that have been set aside for the past 42 years to be thorough and successful, the voices and actions of the priests must be in agreement with the voices and actions of the deities and resonate in a conducive timing and hygienic environment.

Kabiyesi has unquestioning regards for our tradition and culture. He needs our prayers and support as he prepares and waits for signals from all traditionally constituted authorities for the successful conduct of his Ipebi.

Ko bajẹ lori awon Ọwa to ti kọja lọ, ko ni baje lori Oba CLEMENT ADESUYI HAASTRUP, Ajimoko III. N'igba Ọwa Ajimọkọ, Ile wa a r'oju. Awọn eku a ke bi eku, awon ẹyẹ a ke bi ẹyẹ. Awa ọmọ enia naa a f'ọhun bi enia.

Decision To Ignore The Oracle.

Once upon a time in the whimsical town of Kutuje, there reigned a comical ruler, Afijogbade the Indecisive. Known for his penchant for dance and a deep-seated fear of commitment, comical Afijogbade was so reluctant to make choices that even his favorite meal was always served with "maybe" sauce.

In the heart of Kutuje, the IFA Oracle—a mystical being who could foresee the future and had the remarkable ability to tell whether the king's latest hairstyle would be a hit—was summoned to help choose the next Ajele. However, much to the chagrin of the townsfolk, Afijogbade , in a moment of remarkable absurdity, decided he would rather flip a coin than consult the Oracle to appoint his Ajele in Kutuje.

The townspeople were aghast. “What kind of ruler refuses the wisdom of the Oracle?” they murmured, clutching their traditional garments as if they could shield themselves from the folly of their sovereign. But Afijogbade with a shrug that could only be described as regal apathy, declared, “I shall choose my Ajele based on my own whims! Let the coin decide!”

Thus, the day of the grand selection arrived. The townsfolk gathered in the central square, where a crowd of anxious citizens held their breath as Afijogbade tossed a coin into the air. "Heads, it’s Adegbuyi the billionaire; tails, it’s a no one !" he announced with a flourish, as if he were unveiling a grand masterpiece.

The coin spun, glimmered, and landed on... the edge! The crowd gasped collectively, their eyes widening in disbelief. Not one to let a little indecision get in the way, Afijogbade shrugged again and proclaimed, “Onward! We shall install Adegbuyi and the no one !”

And so, without the traditional rites—no anointing oils, no ceremonial dance of the elders, just a haphazard lifting of the goat’s hoof as if it were a royal scepter—Adegbuyi the billionaire was crowned as the Ajele of Kutuje.

Afijogbade, ever the entertainer, the dancer filled the castle with laughter and mischief . He became an unexpected sensation, attracting tourists eager to see the billionaire in a crown. The townsfolk, initially bewildered, soon found themselves charmed by the unconventional reign.

However, chaos ensued when Adegbuyi, the Ajele, in a fit of inspiration, decreed that every Tuesday would be “Dress Like a Goat Day.” This led to widespread confusion as people donned goat costumes, complete with horns and faux fur. The town square became a bizarre parade of humans and goats, each trying to outdo the other in ridiculousness.

Meanwhile, Comically Afijogbade lounged in his throne, sipping a cup of “maybe” tea, as he watched the spectacle unfold. “Who knew ruling could be so entertaining?” he chuckled, thoroughly pleased with his decision to ignore the Oracle.

As months went by, the townspeople grew accustomed to their unusual leadership. They would often gather to discuss the latest antics of Afijogbade and his Ajele , forgetting that the Oracle had been snubbed entirely. “Perhaps we should have consulted the Oracle after all,” one villager mused, but the comment was met with laughter.

In the end, the kingdom of Kutuje thrived in its absurdity. The townsfolk learned to embrace the unexpected, and while Afijogbade remained as indecisive. After all, who needed an Oracle when you had a billionaire wearing a crown?

And so, the legend of the king who ignored the Oracle became a tale told for generations, a satirical reminder that sometimes, the most ridiculous decisions can lead to a comical outcomes and unknown future.

May gods fight for themselves.
