I just finished watching the movie LISABI: The uprising. And I can boldly say that Nollywood is fast improving and progressing beyond expectation. With new projects from the industry there is always a new improvement and development on previous lapses.

The movie is a parentage representation that resonate with the history of the Egba people of Yoruba land as the:

Egba mo'lisa
Omo gbongbo akala
Omo erin jogun ola
Omo osi'lekun pa'lekun de
Aridi ogo loju Ogun
Baba teyin na royin ogun baara fagbe
Egba omo aduro gberu, maduro gbeko....

Lisabi (Agbongbo-Akala), is a hero of the Egba which was then a forest within the territory of Oyo a Yoruba empire ruled by the Alafin. Initially, the Egba people are to pay tribute to the Alafin of Oyo for protection through his representatives (Ilari Oyo) who began to oppress the Egba people, demanding excessive tributes.

Lisabi raised a warlike movement under the guise of a aid society which in reality was a miltary organisation that unite to defend the Egba people against Oyo’s reprisal attacks...

As someone who is not a fan of Nollywood that much, I would economically rate the movie 7/10 based on few personal observation:

>As lover of aesthetics, I would say they did a great job with the costumes as it portraits a good representation of each character. However, they need to improve more on the effects and editing. Especially the place where songodeyi's head is been cut off with a sickle, it is a bit obvious that one would easily figure out the inaccuracy of the sickle and the head as Songodeyi had stopped a bit too early before the sickle made contact with the head. It makes it look like he was positioning his himself for the head to be cut off.

>Another thing is the story line and the suspense therein which is an excellent job well done. Notwithstanding, based on the corresponding nature of the suspense and the preparation of the Selected Egba people for the adventure, the sword fight between lisabi and songodeyi should not have been necessary if the story will end in a way that we would have to anticipate for events that will unfold if possible in the next path. It makes it look like the acquisition of power for the other group members is meaningless since we are not going to see them active in the defeat of songodeyi and his boys. A better option may be that someone else aside Lisabi being a major character in the movie from the group of Egba fighters should have been the one to defeat Songodeyi.

This is a good movie by . That demonstrate the richness of Yoruba people in history and culture.

I am proud to be a YORUBA. Bawa ooo.

Cheque Biography And Life History

In my own opinion, Cheque is more than just a name in the Nigerian music industry; he is a beacon of talent, resilience, and creativity. Born Akanbi Bamidele Brett on March 23, 1995, in Ondo State, Nigeria, Cheque’s journey to stardom is a testament to the power of passion and persistence. From general point of view, his story resonates with many aspiring artists who dream of turning their passion into a career.

Let's agree that Cheque’s early life played a crucial role in shaping his musical career. Raised in a family that valued education, he pursued a degree in Chemical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University. However, it was evident that his heart was in music. During his university days, he actively participated in music-related events, honing his skills and gaining recognition among his peers. If my suggestions are correct, it was during this period that he decided to pursue music full-time, despite the uncertainties that come with such a decision.

It's no longer news that Cheque’s breakthrough came when he signed with Penthauze Music, a record label owned by the renowned Nigerian rapper, Phyno, in 2019. This opportunity marked the beginning of his professional music career. His debut single under the label, "Nyem Space," released in 2019, garnered significant attention, setting the stage for future successes. I believe this was the turning point that catapulted him into the limelight.

From my perspective, the release of the single “Zoom” in 2020 was a pivotal moment in Cheque’s career. The song, which is part of his debut EP “Razor,” became an instant hit, dominating the airwaves and streaming platforms. The catchy melody and relatable lyrics struck a chord with many, making “Zoom” a viral sensation. According to a report by Pulse Nigeria in October 2020, the song amassed millions of streams across various platforms, establishing Cheque as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

I guess Cheque’s artistic style is a unique blend of Afrobeat, Hip-Hop, and R&B. His versatility allows him to experiment with different sounds, creating music that appeals to a wide audience. Influenced by artists like Drake, Wande Coal, and Post Malone, Cheque has developed a distinctive sound that sets him apart from his contemporaries. His lyrical content often revolves around personal experiences, aspirations, and the complexities of life, making his music both relatable and thought-provoking.

From a general point of view, every success story comes with its share of challenges, and Cheque’s journey is no exception. Navigating the competitive Nigerian music industry, dealing with the pressures of fame, and maintaining artistic integrity are just a few of the hurdles he has faced. However, his resilience and dedication have seen him through these challenges, leading to numerous triumphs, including award nominations and international recognition.

HISTORY OF THE BENIN KINGDOM IN NIGERIA

The Benin Kingdom is Known for its rich culture, artistic prowess, and sophisticated governance, the Benin Kingdom holds a significant place in African history. It’s no longer news that this kingdom, located in present-day Nigeria, captivated the world with its bronze sculptures and well-organized society long before European explorers arrived on its shores. Let’s agree that understanding the history of Benin is crucial to appreciating the broader tapestry of African heritage and influence.

In the history of Benin kingdom, They were originated back to the 11th century, although some scholars argue it could be earlier. According to oral tradition, the Edo people, who founded Benin, migrated from the southern part of Nigeria. By the 13th century, Benin had become a powerful state under the rule of the Ogiso dynasty. This period is notable for the establishment of a centralized political system and the development of the city of Edo, known today as Benin City.

One striking aspect of Benin’s history is its artistic achievements. I believe the kingdom’s bronze and ivory works are among the most impressive in the world. These artifacts, created using sophisticated metalworking techniques, depict a wide range of subjects, from royal figures to scenes of everyday life. British explorers and traders, upon encountering these works in the late 19th century, were astounded by their complexity and beauty. Many of these artifacts now reside in museums around the world, serving as a testament to Benin’s advanced craftsmanship.

From a general point of view, the Benin Kingdom’s political structure was equally remarkable. The Oba, or king, held supreme authority, supported by a council of chiefs and nobles. This hierarchical system ensured efficient governance and the maintenance of law and order. The kingdom’s ability to manage its affairs effectively contributed to its longevity and prosperity.

The 15th century marked a significant turning point for Benin. Under the rule of Oba Ewuare the Great, the kingdom expanded its territory through military conquests and strategic alliances. Ewuare is credited with fortifying the city with massive walls and moats, making it one of the most fortified cities of its time. These walls, described by early European visitors, were considered one of the world’s greatest engineering feats.

However, the arrival of Portuguese traders in the late 15th century introduced new dynamics to the kingdom. While it opened doors to European goods and fi****ms, it also set the stage for future conflicts and exploitation. The transatlantic slave trade, which began in the 16th century, had devastating effects on the region, including Benin. Despite these challenges, the kingdom managed to retain much of its autonomy and cultural identity.

Let’s assume you are interested in the interactions between Africa and Europe during the pre-colonial period. The Benin Kingdom serves as a prime example of how African societies were not passive recipients but active participants in global exchanges. The kingdom’s diplomats and traders skillfully navigated their relations with European powers, often on their terms.
