BREAKING NEWS: Ademola Adeleke sacked as Governor of Osun state

Senator Ademola Adeleke has been sacked as Governor of Osun state by an Election Petition Tribunal chaired by Justice Tertse Kume.

The tribunal sacked Adeleke following claims of overvoting in some polling units across the State.

In the majority judgement issued by two judges against one, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ordered that the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke be withdrawn and issued to Adegboyega Oyetola.

Portuguese football superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, has completed a transfer to Saudi Arabian side, Al-Nassr following his bitter departure from the English Premier League giants, Manchester United.

The 37-year-old had been without a club since United mutually terminated his contract in November, ending a tumultuous second spell at Old Trafford.

He was sacked after an explosive and unsanctioned interview with Piers Morgan, in which he criticised manager Erik ten Hag and club owners the Glazers while claiming that he was "betrayed" by the club.

Now the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has found a new team in Al-Nassr where he is expected to earn around £173million per year in the Middle East.

A statement from the club on Friday night, December 30 read: "This is more than history in the making.

"This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves. Welcome, Cristiano, to your new home."

Ronaldo added: "Al Nassr's vision is very inspiring and impressive. I look forward to a different league experience in a different country. I am excited to join my team-mates as soon as possible."

Al-Nassr currently sit at the top of the Saudi Pro League, having won seven of their opening 10 matches.

Football legend Pele, regarded by many as one of the greatest footballers of all time, has passed on at the age of 82.

Pele who has been receiving chemotherapy for bowel cancer, was admitted to a hospital in Sao Paulo earlier this month having contracted a respiratory infection after a bout of Covid-19.

The Brazilian soccer star who rivaled Muhammad Ali as the world’s most popular and recognizable athlete, died on Thursday, December 29, at a Sao Paulo hospital. His agent Joe Fraga confirmed his death on Thursday evening.

Indonesia’s parliament on Tuesday approved legislation that would outlaw s£x outside marriage in a move critics said was a huge setback to rights in the world’s most populous Muslim country.

After the new criminal code was endorsed by all nine parties in a sweeping overhaul of the legal code, deputy house speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad banged the gavel to signal the text was approved and shouted “legal.”

A revision of Indonesia’s criminal code, which stretches back to the Dutch colonial era, has been debated for decades.

Rights groups had protested against the amendments, denouncing a crackdown on civil liberties and political freedoms, as well as a shift towards fundamentalism in Muslim-majority Indonesia, where secularism is enshrined in the constitution.

“However, it is time for us to make a historical decision on the penal code amendment and to leave the colonial criminal code we inherited behind.”

A provision in the text, which still needs to be signed by the president, states the new criminal code will be applicable in three years.

The man who stole singer, Lady Gaga's pets and shot her dog walker last year has been sentenced to 21 years in prison.

James Howard Jackson, one of three men and two accomplices who participated in the violent robbery, pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Jackson and others drove around Hollywood on Feb. 24, 2021 'looking for French bulldogs,' prosecutors said previously. They found Lady Gaga's dog walker, Ryan Fischer, 41, with the pop star's three pets named Asia, Koji, and Gustav.

Jackson shot Fischer during the robbery near Sunset Boulevard, during which two of the dogs were taken. A nearby doorbell camera recorded the dog walker screaming 'Oh, my God! I've been shot!' and 'Help me!' and 'I´m bleeding out from my chest!' Fischer lost part of a lung after the shooting.

This is the most difficult news in Nigeria as of today as Ifeanyi Adeleke, the 3-year-old son of Music superstar, Davido and his fiancee, Chioma Rowland has sadly died.

The tragic death occured on Monday, October 31. Ifeanyi died by drowning at his dad's Banana Island home. He was rushed Evercare Hospital in Lekki where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The couple had traveled for a family gathering to Ibadan yesterday and had left Ifeanyi with his minders who can't explain how he entered the pool without being noticed and drowned.

We gathered that quite a number of people at Davido's House when the incident happened have been arrested.

A distraught and inconsolable Davido was removed from Evercare Hospital and taken to his father's house where he remains as at press time.

Quite a number of Davido's industry friends are at the hospital this night.

This is so sad. May God give Davido and Chioma the fortitude to bear this deep loss.

Singer Harrysong has been arrested over his beef with music executive, Soso Soberekon.

The singer was picked up this morning at the airport immediately he arrived Nigeria.

Recall Harrysong had claimed Soso Soberekon was his enemy and that Soso at a point had sent boys to assassinate him.

Shortly after the claim, Soso asked the singer to tender a public apology and also threatened to sue him for defamation.

Harrysong then fired back and mocked how small Soso’s pr**k is.

Sources say, the police will question Harrysong over the matter and then decide if he could go or be detained.

American rapper, 50 50 Cent’s oldest son Marquise Jackson has offered the rapper $6,700 for a day of his time.

Marquise, 25, has been active on social media after saying that the $6,700 the rapper paid his mother in monthly child support was not adequate.

‘Since y’all think $6,700 is sooo much money someone tell my pops I will pay him $6,700 for just 24hr of his time so we can do everything I ever wanted to do with him as a kid,’ he said. ‘Red Yellow Green whatever color he like.’

He accompanied the request with a shot in which he spelled out the phrase ‘Entitled’ in paper currency, a spoof of a photo 50 Cent previously posted spelling out the phrase ‘Broke’ in hundred dollar bills.

50 Cent, seemingly in response to Marquise’s post, posted a clip from his series Power in which his character Kanan killed his son.

Marquise previously said in an Instagram Live chat with Choke No Joke earlier this month that the $6700 monthly total was not sufficient considering cost-of-living expenses in New York City, as well as in correlation to the earnings of the rapper/mogul.

He said: $6700 a month in … New York City, you do the math. You’re talking about a Forbes lister – you’re talking about someone that has problems with everybody – you can’t just live in any neighborhood, $81K is not a substantial amount of money. You can’t just live anywhere.’

This comes as the couple are enjoying their holiday in London.

The singer had messaged celebrity auto-dealer, Adesuwa Renee Ogiozee, better known as Renee5star informing him of the order.

Renee shared the screenshot on his instagram page which has now gone viral.

Just days ago, Davido was heard saying publicly that he will be tying the knot with her in 2023.

Chioma and Davido recently got together again.

Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora are reportedly holding advanced talks to finalise a trilogy fight for the WBC heavyweight title on December 3.

Fury, the reigning champion, claimed he was retiring from professional boxing after his victory over Dillian Whyte in April, but has since made a -U-turn to return to the ring.

The Gypsy King was set to face former champion Anthony Joshua, which would have presented one of the largest and most lucrative events in the sport, but talks broke down between the two parties last month.

According to ESPN, Fury has now turned his attention back towards a trilogy fight against Chisora, having previously expressed interest in the prospect of a third battle against the 38-year-old.

'I've decided to come back to boxing because I can be the first heavyweight world champion in history to have two trilogies,' Fury said in August.

'I'd always say I'd fight Derek Chisora at the end of my career.'

Brighton and Hove Albion have announced the shock retirement of Enock Mwepu at the age of 24 after the midfielder was diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition.

The 24-year-old fell ill while on a flight to link up with his Zambia team-mates in the international break last month and returned to Brighton to undergo further cardiac tests after a period in a hospital in Mali.

A statement from Brighton on Monday morning, October 10, revealed that Mwepu would have an extremely high risk of suffering a cardiac arrest should he continue playing competitive football.

In a statement, the club said the condition 'would put Enock at an extremely high risk of suffering a potentially fatal cardiac event if he were to continue playing competitive football'.

'I am so sorry for Enock,' Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi said.

'Before I arrived I looked at all the squad, and he was a player I was so excited and looking forward to working with. We will do everything we can to help him.'

Brighton chairman Tony Bloom added: 'We are all absolutely devastated for Enock.

'He and his family have had a traumatic few weeks and while we are just thankful he has come through that period, he has seen such a promising career cut short at such a young age.'

Mwepu has played six Premier League games for Brighton this season, with his most recent appearance coming in the 5-2 victory over Leicester on September 4.

The 24-year-old has been missing from the squad for all of the Seagulls' last four matches since the recent international break.

Mwepu said he hoped to continue his involvement in the sport after receiving the devastating news.

'A boy from a small Zambian township called Chambishi has some news to share,' Mwepu wrote in a statement on social media.

'He stood strong to follow his dream of playing football at the highest level, and by the grace of God he achieved his dream by reaching the Premier League.

Two suspected internet fraudsters, otherwise known as Yahoo boys, have confessed to the police how they kidnapped a 40-year-old man and killed him for a money-making ritual.

Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects told the police that the victim Abdullahi Azeez, was dismembered after they took his life.

The suspects, Friday Abinya Odeh (21) and Poso Idowu (20), Oyeyemi said, were arrested after a report was lodged at the Owode Egba Police Division on June 9, 2022, by the relations of the victim that he left his home at Kobape on June 8, but never returned.

The State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, was said to have directed the anti-kidnapping unit of the State CIID to take over the case and unravel the mystery behind the man’s disappearance.

In compliance with the CP’s directive, the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led team reportedly embarked on a technical investigation, and the hideout of Friday Abinya Odeh was discovered on September 22.

The victim’s SIM card was reportedly recovered at the hideout.
The arrest of Odeh, Oyeyemi said, led to the apprehension of his accomplice, Poso Idowu.

Chelsea FC striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has taken a swipe at Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, claiming he can't handle 'big players.'

The Gabonese player, who joined Chelsea during the summer transfer window, fell out with Arteta at the Gunners, where he spent four years in north London, netting 92 goals in 163 games. This included just over two years with Arteta at the helm but his final few months at the club turned sour as the Spaniard sacked Aubameyang as captain due to several disciplinary issues.

The fall-out led the Gunners to terminate the forward's contract in February before he secured a move to Barcelona, and later move back to England to join Chelsea.

Reflecting on his Arsenal exit, Aubameyang took a swipe at Arteta's management style.

'I remember they [Barcelona] first called my father,’ Aubameyang told A Jewellers.

‘We knew the coach, Xavi, then he called me and said there is an opportunity because you have those problems with Arsenal, but if you come you will help us a lot, so I said, ‘okay’.

‘But to manage big characters or big players, he (Arteta) can’t deal with it.

‘He (Arteta) needs some young players, they don’t say anything, they listen.’

Aubameyang only spent six months with Barcelona, netting 13 times in 24 games for the club.

Aubameyang has started well for Graham Potter's side, netting twice in four games so far.

Police have discovered decomposed bodies of six women at a panel beating shop in central Johannesburg, South Africa.

Police are investigating the possibility that the bodies may be those of s*x workers who went missing in the area.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, October 10, 2022, said a 21-year-old has been arrested for the murder of the victims.

It is believed that the victims were killed a while ago.

"The Police in Johannesburg apprehended a 21-year-old man for murder following the discovery of six bodies in a building in Johannesburg CBD on Sunday, 09 October 2022," the statement read.

"The police were called to the building due to a foul smell coming out of one of the rooms. That is when a body of a woman was found. A preliminary investigation led the police to the suspect, believed to be the last person seen with the deceased woman,"

"It is reported that on 02 October 2022 at 20:00, the suspect was seen with the deceased woman. She was never seen again until her body was discovered on Sunday morning. The clothes she was wearing matches the description of one of the missing persons reported recently.

"Upon questioning the suspect, the police went back to the building and five more bodies were discovered outside the building where there is a makeshift workshop and rubbish dumpsters.

"Unfortunately, the other five bodies are at the late stage of decomposition. They will be subjected to Forensic analysis for identification,"

"The suspect will be charged with six counts of murder and the Provincial Murder and Robbery unit is investigating."

Nigerian singer Teni has been accused of ordering an attack on a student of the University of Benin.

The singer was reportedly in Asaba, Delta State, to perform when she allegedly ordered her bouncer to assault a fan.

A video shared on Twitter shows a UNIBEN student bleeding from his eyes.

Voices in the video accused Teni of being responsible for the attack.

"Teni came to Asaba to play a show and this is what Teni's bouncer did to somebody there, for saying nothing and for doing nothing to Teni," a voice claims in the video.

"On Teni's instruction o," voices are heard saying in the video.

"Teni, all your fans, this is how you keep treating them in Nigeria because you're the biggest artist," another voice says.

Folasade Ogunsola, a Professor of Microbiology is the 13th Vice Chancellor of the university.

The scholar just made history, by becoming the first female VC of the institution established in 1962.

Ogunsola will succeed the outgoing and 12th VC, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, whose five-year single term ends on November 11.

Her contenders were Professors Abayomi Akinyeye, Department of History, Faculty of Arts; Mathew Ilori and Adeyinka Adekunle – Department of Microbiology, and Botany, Faculty of Sciences.

Timothy Nubi, Department of Estate Management, Faculty of Environmental Sciences; Imran Smith, Faculty of Law; Ayo Olowe, Department of Finance, Faculty of Management Sciences.

Born in 1958, Ogunsola is a consultant clinical microbiologist and infection control for the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

The incoming VC holds a PhD in Medical Microbiology, MSc in Medical Microbiology with Distinction, Diploma in Biomedical Techniques from the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff.

She is a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, West African College of Physicians, Nigerian Academy of Science, Nigerian Academy of Medicine, and Academy of Medicine Specialties.

Ogunsola served as UNILAG acting Vice-Chancellor and former Deputy VC in charge of Development Services.

The professor was the pioneer and only female Provost of the university’s College of Medicine.

She has been a governing council member for three terms, the only individual with such a number of years in the body.

Ogunsola has received several awards from local and international organizations, has 142 publications and co-authored four books.

The lawmaker representing Adamawa North, Senator Elisha Abbo, has been expelled by the executives of his local government chapter of the All Progressives Congress for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities and tampering with the process of internal democracy of the party.

The controversial senator, who has remained one of the vociferous dissenting voices against the ruling party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, was axed for criticising the APC presidential flagbearer, Bola Tinubu, on a national television.

This was disclosed in his expulsion letter, which was signed on Friday by 13 members of the state executives.

Rising from its meeting on Friday, the excos of Mubi North Local Government Area stated that they had reviewed among other things the report of the disciplinary committee before taking the decision to expel him.

Former South African President Jacob Zuma has been released from prison on medical parole due to ill health, the government’s correctional services department.

Zuma, 79, has been serving a 15-month prison sentence since July for contempt of court after defying a summons to appear at an inquiry into corruption during his time in office.

“Medical parole placement for Mr Zuma means that he will complete the remainder of the sentence in the system of community corrections, whereby he must comply with a specific set of conditions and will be subjected to supervision until his sentence expires,” South Africa’s Department of Correctional Services (DCS) said in a statement on Sunday.

Last month, Zuma was admitted to an outside hospital where he underwent surgeries for an undisclosed ailment, according to prison authorities.

The DCS said it was “impelled” to grant Zuma medical parole after receiving a medical report.

“Apart from being terminally ill and physically incapacitated, inmates suffering from an illness that severely limits their daily activity or self-care can also be considered for medical parole,” the statement said.

Vincent Ogbulafor, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is dead.

Goddy Uwazurike, lawyer and close associate of the deceased said he died in Canada on Thursday October 6 after a brief undisclosed illness. He was 73 years.

Uwazurike said;

“Chief Vincent Ogbulafor KSM really died in the early hours of today in Canada at 73. The Royal Family of Ogbulafor will announce a date for the burial ceremonies, which will most likely take place next year.

“He was the head of the family. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord. Let perpetual light shine on him.”

A Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has ordered members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off their eight-months-old strike and return to the classrooms immediately.

The appellate court gave the order in a ruling on an application by the striking lecturers, seeking permission to appeal against the order of the National Industrial Court which asked the striking lecturers to resume duty.

The 3-man panel led by Justice Hamman Barka, stated that calling off the strike is the only condition that the union’s request to appeal the ruling of the National Industrial Court which ordered the union to call off its strike will be given effect.

The court asked ASUU to file its notice of appeal within 7 days and must show evidence that its members have resumed work immediately.
