Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has confirmed his intention to run for the office of the president in 2023.
The former Lagos State governor also disclosed that he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari about his presidential ambition.
Asked why he would not remain a kingmaker rather than seeking to be the king, he said there is nothing that stops a kingmaker from becoming the king unless he has committed murder.
“I answer that with a categorical yes. I’ve informed the President of my intention but I have not informed Nigerians yet. I’m still consulting. And I have no problem consulting. And I’ve noticed that a parameter of limitation to the extent of how many people will I consult,” he said.

ASUU-AKURE ZONE: Blame FG if Planned Strike Paralyses Academic Activities in Varsities
Addressing journalists at the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, the Akure Zonal Coordinator, ASUU, Prof. Olufayo Olu-Olu, said the proposed strike became imperative following federal government’s failure to implement the agreement reached with the union in 2009.
The Akure zonal coordinator, who presides over OAU, FUTA and EKSU, said the federal government had been insincere and deceptive by reneging on the Memorandum of Action (MoA) signed with ASUU on December 23, 2020.
Calling for swift interventions of the students’ body, parents, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders in education sector, Olu-Olu added that the proposed industrial action would be long and total until all issues raised are addressed.
“We are here again today to inform and sensitive the Nigerian populace and the stakeholders especially our student on the looming dangers of present attitude of the government toward our union as it bother on various Memoranda signed but unimplemented by the government since 2009.
“It is rather unfortunate that government has to stretch ASUU beyond its elastic limit on this. To accept negotiation on every issue and for the agreement to be reached, strike must be embarked upon. The implementation of such agreement be it MoA or MoU would only see light of the day after series of action,” he added.
While lamenting the deplorable state of public universities in the country, Olu-Olu, said the release of revitalisation fund to the ivory towers would address the sorry state of infrastructures in the campuses.
“Perhaps the most worrisome aspect of the agreement is the issue of state Universities. The way both the Federal and state government are glossing over the issue of state universities call for attention.
“The fight for the revitalisation of public universities has made state government to fall into a deep sleep while relying on our union as miracle w

ASUU NSUK Threatens Strike Over Unpaid N911m EAA
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has threatened to embark on strike.
The chairman of the union, Dr. Samuel Alu, disclosed this to newsmen in Lafia on Saturday, stating that the planned strike is over non-payment of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) of its members.
According to Alu, the unpaid EAA of members amounts to N911 million
He said the union signed a Memorandum of Action (MoA) with the Nasarawa State Government and Council of the university, which made it to suspend its strike in June 2016 over the same issue.
“Since June 2016, when the strike was suspended, the Nasarawa State government had failed to fulfil its promises to the union.
“Other demands of the union that government must address include poor funding of the university, domestication and implementation of retirement age of 70 years for academic staff and professional cadre,’’ he said.
Alu warned that the state government was fuelling industrial action at NSUK also by refusing to mainstream the EAA to salaries of ASUU members as done for sister unions in the university.
“It is worthy to put it on record that in 20 years of NSUK existence, the ASUU has had only one unfortunate industrial action in 2016.
“This indicates that the branch has demonstrated enough maturity, commitment to duty, tolerance, and patience which should not be taken for a weakness.
“The general populace, especially, stakeholders, parents and students of NSUK should hold the government and university administration responsible for the consequences that may arise from the non-implementation of the MoA,’’ he union Chairman stated.
Alu stressed that the strike could begin after the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union in February 2022.
