Govt clears air on Olubadan stool rumour.

Oyo State government has absolved itself from the rumoured plan to stop or scuttle the ambition of anyone from becoming the next Olubadan.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, government believes that it is not only premature but also unfair and preemptive for anyone to start discussion on the next Olubadan when a new Olubadan has just been successfully installed.

The commissioner said, “it is embarrassing that few days after the coronation and presentation of staff of office to the new Olubadan, HIM Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, some citizens are already looking over the shoulders of the new Oba and ascribing the government gazette that implemented the recommendation of the Ibadan Chieftaincy Review Committee to a ploy to disqualify certain individuals.”

For the avoidance of doubt, the last Olubadan, Ọba Mohood Olalekan Balogun, Alli Okumade II, set up the Ibadan Chieftaincy Review Committee to review and deliberate on the needed reforms of the Ibadan Chieftaincy, the extant chieftaincy declaration and composition of the Ibadan land local government traditional councils and make the necessary recommendations.

After extensive review and deliberation, the committee recommended among others that the eleven (11) high chiefs who are members of the Olubadan-In-Council be elevated and approved as beaded crown wearing Obas.

The commissioner revealed that the late Oba Balogun, Alli Okumade II, in a signed letter to His Excellency , the Governor of Oyo State and dated February 5th, 2023, proposed that this reform be incorporated into the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957.

Few months later on 14th July, 2023 precisely, the amendments were gazetted.

The Governor did this not only because it was a legitimate prayer from His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. (Sen.) Mohood Olalekan Balogun, Alli Okumade II, but also in deference to the tradition and culture of Ibadanland.

The State government advised the people not to heat up the polity as government will continue to uphold what is right and the cherished tradition and culture of our people.

Government wishes the Olubadan of Ibadanland, HIM Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, good health and wisdom to pilot the affairs of Ibadanland.

Makinde, an example to other governors - NGE

72 journalists from all media houses across the Country under the aegis of the Nigerian Guild of Editors stormed Oyo State on the invitation of the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to tour the various infrastructural projects in State.

The morning began on a cheerful atmosphere at the Executive Chamber of the State Government at Agodi, Ibadan as Governor Seyi Makinde welcomed the editors.

Praising Governor Makinde for his quality leadership style while speaking on behalf of the President, Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr Eze Anaba, the Deputy President, Mrs Husseina Akila, described the Governor as a gender-friendly individual with the appointment of women into critical positions in his administration.

Thereafter, the governor took the visitors on a tour of some of the infrastructural projects in the State including the 11 megawatts alternative power project in the State, the ongoing 110km circular road project, the Omololu Olunloyo park, the 65km Ibadan-Iseyin road, among others.

On the circular road, the governor said by next year, his administration would have completed 70km out of the 110km stretch of the road.

He assured that by the end of his second term as Governor, his administration will hand over a roadmap for sustainable development of Oyo State beyond 2027 to the next administration to sustain the development drive for the State.

While touring the 65km Ibadan-Iseyin road, the governor said he would give $1,000 to any of the 72 Journalists if they find any pothole on the road.

They could not find any.

Recall, only last week, President Bola Tinubu, represented by his Vice, Kashim Shettima, came to commission the 76.67km road that links Iseyin to Ogbomoso, making a total of 142km stretch of State road.

At the event, presidency said that history will be kind to the Governor of Oyo State.

At Fashola farm, the governor took the visitors on about 2km walk within the farm as they came in close contact with the reality of the various landmark investments in Agribusiness that quality governance has produced.

Obviously, what the governor is doing is to re-enact the potentials of the old Fashola farms which was established by Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

According to the Director-General, Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, OYSADA, Dr. Debo Akande, the Agribusiness template in Oyo State is currently being employed by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA, across many countries of the world.

Among prominent editors on the tour, an On-Air-Personality with AriseTV and a popular columnist, Dr. Reuben Abati, said that he has heard so much about the governor and was happy to have first hand experience of his enviable performance.

He said he was thoroughly impressed by all that they had seen.

While clamouring for more support of the people for the Seyi Makinde administration, the President, Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr. Eze Anaba, disclosed that Makinde's governance stands as a template of encouragement for other State governors.

Eze also said that he was surprised that the governor reads widely because in the cause of their discussion, he found out that the governor had read some of the books that he had too.

"I never knew that some governors still read," he said.

The Guild of Editors President said that even he was surprised to see the quality of representation by members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors on the tour including names that are rare to find during state inspections such as the Managing Director, the Sun Newspapers, Onuoha Ukeh; the MD, Nigerian Tribune Group of Newspapers, Edward Dickson; the MD, ThisDay Newspapers, Eniola Bello; the MD, The Nation Newspapers, Victor Ifijeh; the MD, New Telegraph Newspapers, Ayo Aminu; Editor of the Guardian, Dr Femi Adekoya; Editor of The Punch, Dayo Oketola; Editor, Nigerian Tribune, Debo Abdullahi; Editor, Saturday Tribune, Dr Lasisi Lagunju; Editor, Sunday Tribune, Shina Oladeinde; Editor, ThisDay on Saturday, Chima Obinna; Editor, Saturday Sun, Tope Adeboboye; Arise News AOP/Newspaper Columnist, Dr Reuben Abati; the General Manager, Channels Television, Ambrose Okoh; TVC AOP, Babajide Otitoju, and many more.

Youths Empowerment: Oyo Pays Highest for Corpers - Oyelade

Youths empowerment in Oyo State has been described as incomparable with any other State in the federation.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, at the third edition of the Hope For Second Chance Foundation, HOSEC, secondary school oratory contest in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Prince Oyelade said the State government, in its commitment to improved welfare of youths, two years ago increased the allowances of Youth Corpers from five thousand naira to fifteen thousand naira.

He said according to the NYSC Coordinator in Oyo State, Mr Abel Odoba, this has made Oyo State the highest paying state in the federation even as some States find it difficult to pay the mandatory ₦5,000.

The commissioner for information disclosed that this generous wage by Governor Seyi Makinde's administration has made Oyo State the Mecca for Youth Corpers.

Emphasizing the importance of ICT to societal development, Prince Dotun Oyelade challenged youths to focus more on the positives than the negative part of digital space.

He said deliberate moves are on to combat the menace of cybercrime in Oyo State through collaborative efforts by the State's anti-graft agency, the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA), the Ministry of Education, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), among others to preach against crimes associated with the internet and digital space.

The commissioner disclosed that recently, Gov. Makinde has approved a substantial amount of money to implement a Youth Empowerment Programme on ICT training, including digital marketing, data analysis & coding, and also on entrepreneurship, leadership, mentorship among others.

According to the Executive Director, Hope For Second Chance Foundation, HOSEC, organisers of the event, Mrs Ibukunoluwa Oteṣile, mastery of effective communication skills should be the life goal of every child.

She called on parents, teachers and relevant stakeholders to rise to the task of making this the reality of every child.

The oratory contest among government 47 secondary schools in Ibadan gave the students the opportunity to discuss the merits and demerits of ICT advancements in a bid to enhancing safe digital spaces and child protection.

The keenly contested competition was won by Government College, Ibadan.

The event was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion among others.

"A brand new 78km Iseyin-Ogbomoso road has just been built by Seyi Makinde's Oyo State to escape the Federal Government's death trap along Ibadan-Oyo-Ogbomoso axis."

"A commuter online wrote: The road has helped us to link Northern Nigeria without using the dangerous Oyo-Ilorin road that has consumed so many lives."

*Popular Tribune Columnist: Dr. Lasisi Olagunju; May 6th, 2024.*

Reacting to the comment of Dr. Lasisi Olagunju in the Nigerian Tribune today, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade said, "as a matter of fact, "you can now ply the Ibadan-Iseyin road and from Iseyin to Ogbomosoland, a distance of 150km without stepping on a Federal road; all constructed by Gov. Seyi Makinde within the last five years.

"What makes the Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso express road more unique is that it was constructed on a rocky, water-infested virgin land.

"This follows the serial Economic/Agrarian Road Network Legacy which the governor will leave behind in 2027."

The Commissioner said that there is no State in the Federation that has surpassed the distance of road networking that Oyo State has been able to achieve in the last five years.

"With due respect, Lagos State which is the richest state in the federation with a ₦60billion IGR every month, said at a press briefing on Friday, 3rd May that the state has succeeded in commissioning 177.93km road project in the past five years while working on others.

This is a great feat by any standard.

Oyo State with just about ₦4billion IGR every month, over 100,000 civil servants, 28,454 square kilometres landmass and a population of about 8million, has constructed 275km road project in the same number of years:

Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso road (76.67km);

Moniya-Ijaye-Iseyin road (65.0km);

Ido-Eruwa road (48km);

Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho road (45.3km);

Oyo LG Polls:
We congratulate you, we congratulate ourselves - Oyo Govt

Oyo state government has said that the victory of all PDP candidates in the LG elections was predictable.

In a statement issued by the state commissioner for information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, after the announcement of the results, the outstanding performance of Governor Seyi Makinde in the last five years was the major reason why the election turned out to be one-sided.

The Commissioner also attributed the election result to the quality of the candidates which the ruling party presented.

"This is a glowing tribute to the governor and his government as this is the last election under his watch till 2027 when he and the just elected LG chairmen and councillors will end their tenures."

The Information Commissioner observed that surprisingly the opposition party started rehearsing their complaints barely 30 minutes to the commencement of the elections yesterday morning.

He charged them to behave like sportsmen and stop mixing fantasy with democracy.

The Commissioner saluted the commitments of the security team, the OYSIEC chairman and his team for daring to make a difference after the challenges of the past two Local Govt elections
