Oyo Speaker, Ogundoyin Hails Oluyole Council Boss, Akeem Olatunji for Empowerment Initiatives

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has praised the Oluyole Local Government Chairman, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, for organizing a successful Vocational Training program for 500 trainees drawn from the Local Government.

The Speaker gave the commendation while presenting certificates and working tools to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Oluyole Local Government Secretariat, Idi Ayunre, Ibadan

The ceremony also featured presentation of distinguished Merit Awards to some outstanding individuals and corporate organisations that have made positive impacts on Oluyole Local Government.

The 500 trainees graduates who undergone a 4-week skill and vocational Life Enhancement Training Programme acquired valuable skills in various areas, including Fabric & Souvenirs, Food Technology, Makeup & Gele tying, Home Essentials, Barbing & Dreadlocks, and Kampala making.

The event also recognized individuals and corporate organizations that have made a positive impact on Oluyole Local Government, highlighting the importance of community partnerships and collaborations.

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin, who was the special guest of honor at the event, expressed his admiration for the initiative

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin commended Engr. Akeem Olatunji for his leadership sagacity.

The Speaker said the Council boss had embarked on numerous initiatives and projects aimed at improving the lives of Oluyole residents.

"I want to specially appreciate the Chairman, Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji For the empowerment and vocational training programme. It is also laudable that the Local Government appreciated individuals who have impacted the council positively. This empowerment program and awards ceremony embody the kind of positive change expected from Local Councils."

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin urged other local government chairmen to emulate Engr. Olatunji's example.

I will like to acknowledge and recalle some of the remarkable achievements of Oluyole Local Government Chairman, Engr. Akeem Olatunji some of which include the construction of a Grade A Customary Court, empowerment of over 500 persons, and the establishment of an Amotekun base to enhance security in the area. Additionally, he successfully electrified the LG Secretariat and its environs, bringing light to the community after years of darkness.

"Other notable achievements are the construction of administrative offices for various agencies, rehabilitation of roads, and provision of free medical outreach, free eye treatment, and eye surgery for residents where over 500 residents received free eye treatment and glasses, while 20 individuals underwent free eye surgery for severe cataracts. These initiatives demonstrate Engr. Olatunji's commitment to improving the lives of Oluyole residents and providing essential services to the community. This is really commendable. *Oyo Speaker, Ogundoyin Commends Makinde's Power Project As Giant Leap in Energy Sufficiency*

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has hailed the Hybrid Power Plant project commissioned by Governor Seyi Makinde as a "giant leap" in the quest of the State to have energy sufficiency.

The Speaker described the project as a testament to the Governor's visionary leadership in the State.

The Hybrid Power Project, comprising 10MW gas-fired power generation and 1MW PV solar solution, will provide reliable electricity to key facilities, including Government offices, Healthcare facilities, Schools, and Economic hubs.

The Speaker commended the Governor shortly after attending the commissioning of the project at the State Government Secretariat, Ibadan

This innovative solution is expected to boost the state's energy supply by 14%, bridging the energy gap and empowering communities.

" The commissioning of the first phase of the 11MW Oyo State Power Project (IPP) by Governor Seyi Makinde is another promise kept. This is another significant milestone in the efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde to address the problems of inadequate power supply. It is a giant leap in energy sufficiency, and we are proud to be part of this journey towards a brighter future for our state. This project is a game-changer for Oyo State. It demonstrates the Governor's commitment to providing sustainable energy solutions and driving economic growth."

He added, "We are proud to support this project, which will have a significant impact on the lives of our citizens."

The IPP will power 12 healthcare facilities, including Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital and State Hospital Ring Road, as well as the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba. Additionally, it will provide public lighting for a 10km radius under the 'Light-Up Oyo' project, enhancing security and economic development.

The project is being executed on a Build-Operate-Transfer basis, with Elektron Energy financing and developing the project.

According to the Speaker, with this project, Oyo State has become a model for energy innovation in Nigeria, and this will attract investors and drive economic growth in our dear State.

Hon. Ogundoyin commended the governor for his leadership vision, saying, "We are grateful to Governor Makinde for his commitment to the people of Oyo State. This project is a testament to his administration's dedication to delivering impactful projects that will improve the lives of our citizens."

The Speaker also emphasized the importance of the project in boosting economic development in the state, saying it will not only provide electricity to our people, but will also create opportunities for businesses to thrive.

*lOgundoyin Champions Establishment of Post Legislative Scrutiny Unit in State Assemblies As Pilot Scheme Takes off in Oyo Assembly

In a significant move to enhance the effectiveness of legislative processes in Nigeria, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Adebo Ogundoyin, has emphasized the importance of establishing a Post Legislative Scrutiny (PLS) unit in state assemblies across the country.

This development comes as the Oyo State House of Assembly is selected for the pilot scheme of PLS.

The Speaker emphasized the importance of Post Legislative Scrutiny Unit in his opening remarks at the training programme on PLD and validation its establishment framework for Oyo State House of Assembly held in Ibadan.

"We are making history again in Oyo State. Today, we launched a workshop on institutionalizing Post-Legislative Scrutiny (PLS) in the Oyo State House of Assembly. I am proud that Oyo State is leading the charge on this initiative. As a pioneer in the pilot scheme across Nigeria, we're committed to ensuring our laws are effective, efficient, and truly serve our constituents' needs. As lawmakers, it's our duty to guarantee transparent, accountable, and high-quality legislative processes. The establishment of a dedicated PLS unit within the Oyo State House of Assembly is a significant step towards achieving these goals. The unit will conduct thorough post-legislative reviews, analyze data, and make evidence-based recommendations to improve the quality of legislation."

According to Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin, "Our commitment to PLS demonstrates our dedication to legislative excellence and our desire to make a positive impact on the lives of our constituents. Post legislative scrutiny is an integral part of the legislative exercise. It is a powerful tool for lawmakers to ensure that laws are not just enacted but also implemented effectively and achieve their intended outcomes."

He noted that through PLS, lawmakers can identify gaps, rectify errors, and refine their policymaking to better serve the needs of their constituents.

He added that when embraced by State Assemblies across the country, Post Legislative Scrutiny would build a stronger, more responsive, and accountable legislature.

"This initiative is a crucial step towards enhancing democratic governance in Nigeria and ensuring that laws are effective, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the people."

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin commended the organizers of the event for their initiative in highlighting the importance of post-legislative scrutiny.

He expressed confidence that the pilot scheme would foster meaningful discussions, contribute to ongoing efforts to enhance democratic governance in Nigeria, and elevate the standard of lawmaking.

The pilot scheme, which is being implemented in collaboration with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), aims to strengthen the oversight functions of the legislature and ensure that laws are effective, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the people.
